Gift ideas for kids

What are some good gifts for a 3 year old girl + 9 and 11 year old boys?

Jmac 12-05-2019 05:53 PM

LEGO

Nerf guns for the 9 and 11 year old and get one for yourself too because you don't want to be un armed. it hard to get anything cool for a 3 year old.

Price range? It also reallly depends on the kid and what they like.

If you don't know, for the older boys, Lego you can't go wrong. I also quite liked K'Nex when I was that old.

The 3 year old girl...you really have to find out what she likes at the moment and just get her that. At that point it's not so much about the gift as it is about getting the child to like you more lol

Trip to Disneyland? :fullofwin:

Budget I would say under $40 each

The 9 year old would probably enjoy those large Lego sets with no theme, like 1000 pieces of various blocks to build whatever you want.

11 is kinda pushing it, you'd be hard pressed to find something for $40 unless it's not a toy at all and like a hoodie or something lol. Or NERF guns lol.

I have a 3 year old niece and like I said, last month she was into dinosaurs, then she was in love with princess Leia, and now she's all about Frozen 2. So unless you can cater to whatever she likes specifically (and fully understand she may not like it at all in a week), get her something generic, but big lol. Duplo + LEGO + LEGO.

Kinda hard to say without knowing the kids though, ask their parents if you can.

winson604 12-05-2019 08:29 PM

As a fellow parent please no lego lol. Duplo is better but Lego is a nightmare. To other people that 200 piece of whatever looks bomb but to me that's 200 pieces of small little annoying pieces scattered all around the house, under the couch and other furniture.

How can you not know what to get kids, it’s literally limitless!

Start a thread for what to get dads, that’s freaking impossible!

LEGO is a rip-off IMO. That said, my kids have tons of it and I step on it all the time so that probably adds to my dislike.

Gift cards aren’t great for personal friends or relatives but for the same price as a LEGO kit, giving a 9 & 11 y/o the freedom to shop for whatever they want might be a nice, new experience for them.

3 y/o.. doesn’t matter all that much. Clothes or a cute stuffy keep it simple no one will remember anyway lol

Was at New York a few weeks ago and visited FAO Schwarz. They were demoing these clip on skates which looked amazingly fun. If my kids didn't already have a pair of Heelys, I would've bought it for them.

Can't seem to find the product in the FAO website, but Amazon has a bunch of similar products.

For the 3 yr old, electronic writing tablet, Costco sells these for around $20-25.

Mine has started to draw and uses up a lot of paper. This thing has been pretty cool. I believe the Costco one allows users to change the battery.

I am starting to hate Duplo/Lego. Every xmas someone gives me those Duplo/Lego Walmart specials. I have 2 x 900pcs Lego and 3x 100+ pcs Duplos. However, I look forward to when mine is old enough to build Technics sets so I have an excuse to buy the big fancy/elaborate sets.

Nowadays, I love to give my nieces/nephews and friends' children books, especially those classic ones like Roald Dahl or Calvin and Hobbes. It's great to get the kids away from electronics for a bit, and I love sitting down and reading to/with them. Great bonding time with the kids.

HonestTea 12-06-2019 08:25 AM

Buy yourself a cheap $300 3D printer and make your own toys.. #win for yourself and the kids. Then the gifts are endless and unique.

Agreed. Parents seem stupidly hard to buy for. Clothes seem to be useless, they're to old to learn new tech items, and if the product isn't a high quality item they'll complain about it.

Give a gift to a kid that every parent will hate you for.
Digital air drum sticks. As they swing them in the air they make drum noises.

Alpine 12-06-2019 10:17 AM

The most important thing is your time. I am in a similar boat and honestly, what you buy/do isn't all that important but it's the time you spend with them that they truly appreciate (especially with my 3yr old niece).
I am going to buy my 3yr old niece a puzzle that we can build together and some sporting equip for my nephews. I might even throw in a board game for the nephews so there's something that we can do together so i don't have to watch them fight over the switch controller.

acrophobia 12-06-2019 04:16 PM

My kids are 7 and 9. Easier board games are always a hit for the whole family (and keep them away from screens!)

^edit: Didn’t even notice the response above mine until after I originally posted, but Alpine speaks the truth :)

Boostslut 12-06-2019 09:04 PM

Every 2+ year old child needs at least one of these, if not more.
