Portable battery jump starter packs

Does anyone keep one of these in their vehicles? I'm looking to get one and throw it in the back of my F150 for an emergency type situation where my battery dies and no one is around to jump it. Most of them can be used as a charging base for your phones and whatnot as well. There's so many on Amazon and the reviews are all over the place so I'm looking for some recommendations if someone has one and has had success with it.

I have one in each of my cars for emergency. Its saved me, as well as friends/family numerous times... So they have paid for themselves numerous times over.

I love this one... Bought many of these (for myself and for my parents)

Had an antigravity xp-1. Killed it trying to jump one too may cars before recharging it. Now have an xp-10 and recharge it after every jump or 6 months without use. No issue since.

Wow, the Antigravity XP-1 seemed to have a lot of hype around them, and have some bold claims. I did highly consider getting one, and didn't think it would fail so hard! Glad to hear at least the XP-10 is working well for you.

I use a NOCO Genius GB40 Boost+ that I bought from Canadian Tire on sale a while back. I leave it in the Porsche since it doesn't get drive very often, and the odd time, may need to jump start it when I lived in a condo. I've owned mine for a year and a half and have only charged it maybe once or twice. I've managed to help a few colleagues at work jump start their vehicles either from dead alternators or dead batteries. Edit: I should add that the boost function is a life saver. Try to get a battery pack that offers this option.

I'd say there are cheaper (and even better!) alternatives, but I haven't had to explore them yet. I'll keep my eyes peeled on this thread.

I recently bought a GooLoo 4000a Jump Starter

I use it to jump my trucks after they've sat in the cold for a while, I use it a few times a week and I feel like its worth it.

Also my trucks are the heavy commercial kind with a Cummins 9L and a International 7.6L
The boost function pops the battery gauge to around 13.5 Volts before I crank it

Amazon currently has a sale on it. 229.99 with a $50 coupon makes it $180

+1 for NOCO Genius.

Also bought the GB40 jumper awhile back when it was on sale and been nothing but great! Makes a good emergency flash light & if need to charge any devices

Another GB40 vote. Boosted my dead 5 liter a couple of times before needing to be charged. I think it goes up to 6.0 gas engines and then you have too go up to a GB50 or GB70 if you need more. Seems very high quality. I almost wish I could come across somebody who needs jumper cables so I can use this toy lol

I have a Motomaster unit of some sort. It is cheap, and it has worked well for the few times when I needed it.

NOCO - watch for an amazon lightning deal

jumped everything with it, and it's charged my phone in a jam too.

(my wife just reminded me we use it as a BBQ flashlight too)

Picked up the NOCO GB70 over Black Friday for around $180 plus taxes, it's a nice hefty unit with one of the best outputs in its class. Also saw the GOOLOO 4000A on sale, either of the two are top of the tests here:

Also have an old Anker 600A, it's saved me a couple of times and has jumped a 3.0L Mercruiser with a rather low marine battery, but recently failed to jump a 3.5L MDX with a dead battery. The boost/override function is a must, it's a total pain in the ass to work without it with a dead battery.

I got one off Amazon, can't remember the brand. Have yet to actual use it

I have this from few years ago, super convenient, no longer have to worry about jumper cables or connecting it wrong. Tiny package and can jump multiple cars on one charge

+1 for GooLoo from Amazon.

Saved me yesterday. Left my headlights on as I stopped in at a coffee shop and came back to a dead battery.

Easy to use, connected and started up my car in less than 5 mins.

^ I think your battery is toast if a coffee shop stop killed it!

I also have the NOCO GB40 and used it once on a friend's car. She and her parents were surprised when I came by and I didn't have to park next to them and pop my hood.

I wanted to get the GB50 or GB70 but settled for the GB40 because it was $80

Amazon.com lightning deal

Then a week later someone in Richmond posted an almost new GB70 on Facebook Marketplace for $75 and I almost bought that too :rukidding:

I have a motomaster unit w/ air compressor, keep in trunk strapped down. have made use of it bunch of times, believe it is 1400a one. on sale usually.

68style 01-04-2021 09:37 AM

How do you perfectionists keep these things charged???... every time I’ve ever gone to use one (albeit not my own) it’s been dead from sitting too long and of no help at all... and I can’t imagine it would be any different if I owned one lol

TOS'd 01-04-2021 09:57 AM

I just set a reoccurring calendar reminder to bring it in to top it up.

Yeah, it is. I will have to replace it soon.

Another recommendation for NOCO Genius.

Gh0stRider 01-09-2021 09:20 PM

Had my GooLoo sitting in my truck for a new months. Co-worker need a jump so i hooked it up and it started up no problems. Co-worker was kinda amazed that the small booster worked.

roverT 01-09-2021 10:20 PM

I use a RAVpower 1000A/14,000mAH unit.

It’s been great at jump starting engines. Always works as long as it’s charged up which is one of my OCDs so it hardly ever falls below 50%. When going on a trip it’s always process to check tire pressures, engine fluids, and charge the battery pack.
