My first never crawled. He'd roll and pull himself along the hardwood floor with his arms. After he learned to pull himself up and use the walker thing, he walked with it till he walked on his own. The second went through the normal crawl/walk/run stages. If you know someone with a kid around the same age, there's some use in exposing them to other kids behavior to mimic. Our second certainly went through development stages faster we think as she had her brother to mimic as they're 2 years apart. We had a friend of a friend at a party tell us their 9 month old didn't talk (basic single words baba mama milk etc) or babble, and after being next to my kid who was babbling away, he started babbling too. The mom was over the moon excited. The "milestone" dates for crawling/walking/talking have a wide target window. |

You guys will all realize soon the best stage of a less than 3yo child's life is when you get set them down somewhere and know they will be exactly there when you come back lol |

About a decade ago when we were in our 20's, we went hiking at Lynn Canyon, and we out hiked by a 63 yr old on the trail who passed us going up, and then said hi again and laughed with us as he came back down while he were STILL going up. |
When it comes to your kid, what are you people doing to log in to things that require the bc services app as a 2 step verification? I don't see an option in the app for a second user. |

I'm curious also, what do you need to log in for? Medical records? |
We no longer get physical SIN card's. In order to sign up for RESP, bank wants proof of SIN, and they won't just allow me to verbally tell them the number. One of the options was to log in to government systems, but I came across the need for bc services app. Long story short, I lined up about 3 hours at Service Canada for a dumb piece of paper, that doesn't even have any security features, to show the bank. |
I was at Tsawwassen Mills the other day and rented one of those electric ride on cars. My son seemed to have a good time in one as I controlled his car around the mall. A bunch of people passing by thought he was driving it himself, lol. I was thinking of buying one. Anyone have one of these and what kind of things to look for? Long term ownership experiences, any specific brands I should go for or they're more or less all the same? lol being a car guy, I'm kind of looking at the Lambo or McLaren ones. |
Don't get any of the 6V ones. The Costco thread has a Mario Kart one that's 24V which is probably good. $450. |

We opened an RESP for ours and we didn't need to do any of that, we were in and out in like 20 minutes. EDIT*: Never mind, it does not. Still weird though, we were never asked to provide one. Now I'm wondering if I even know what ours' SIN is, lol |
I just finished checking as you edited. I have both the with parents name and without. Couldn't find it on either. Only number I found was registration number on it. |

24V is probably too much for my son right now as he's only 9 months, lol. And it needs to be remote controllable. |

I've actually never seen a 24V until the Mario Kart one popped up, most are 12V. |
Hmm lol now I have to wonder if I ever registered for a SIN for my youngest 4 years ago. I know for sure I did with my eldest and as pointed out pretty lame its some piece of paper vs a card but oh wells. |
^ I think it came together with birth registration. I don't remember having to do anything extra |

So my ~3.5 just started preschool and loves it. Similar to how I was at his age, he’s always excited to go and never anxious. He’s having a blast, although within 3 days already brought a cold home that kicked my ass. So it begins… But the vent here comes with his speech. My wife and I are very good with him, read and correct his way of talking all the time but it almost feels like he’s purposely stunting his own speech growth. For example instead of using ‘I’ hell just say ‘me’ even though we always try to correct him and make him say the correct sentence. Or like this morning he’s playing with his toys and grabs his ‘ment chuck. I said no, and make him say ‘cement’ and ‘truck’ properly. Then when I ask what it is he firmly says ‘ment chuck. But it’s clear he’s falling behind his other preschool kids as they talk like adults and not babies. They’ve ordered a hearing test but I doubt it since he’s had them in the past and done very well, and he can hear the quietest of things around the house it’s crazy |
Can confirm the round of fall illnesses are back. My kid had caught something from school, and had been sick since Friday. It's a PITA. I am also concerned about the way my kid talks, but it is an accent thing. His bestie is from a Honger family, and although he is as fluent in English as a kid can be, he speaks with a decidedly Honger Canto accent. FailFish So my kid picks up after that, and that's pretty much how he speaks as well, and it annoys me to no end. And because we want to make sure he retains as much of his Canto speaking abilities as possible, we almost exclusively speak Canto to him at home, so there isn't much time for us to practice speaking English, and have me correct his accent. I don't see how I can salvage a win out of this... at least, not any time soon... FailFish |
Kids are sponges when it comes to language. We spoke Korean mostly at home, and it's the language she picked up first. At 2 years we took her to daycare and she spoke zero English. 3 months later she's starting to mix in English to Korean because she can't remember words she knew. She's 3.5 half now and I would say she's fluent in both languages for her age, although we're fully cognizant she could lose her Korean very quickly unless we keep on top of it. Oh, and she's sick also. We kept her home with Grandma last week, and now Grandma is also sick...lol |
Kids will be kids, sometimes they would say something wrong just because you are trying to correct them. Stubborn things these. Mine is 4 and his speech can be wack sometimes, especially when he's tired. One particular one that comes to mind is he'll say "Sleep with you" which he actually means "sleep with me in my(his) bed". We aren't bothered by it and he'll get around to it. I miss the days when he made up his own words and meanings. down = stop utdeh = orange or stroller snung = snack I guess I just miss 2 year old him vs the 4 year old brat right now. Oh and yes, flu season is starting. He's got a runny nose since Friday which means post nasal drip. We are trying really hard to not let him give it to the baby cause that's a shit show and 3 halves if she gets sick. It's not helpful how you can't really get the flu shot until end of Oct. |
If you guys haven't used it before -- try those nasal sprays. We use the HydraSense one that can be bought anywhere. The kids dread and hate it, and will fight you tooth and nail against it, but it works wonderfully well in clearing a ton of nasal-related issues (nasal drips, runny nose, congestion, phlegm, etc.) I'd even go as far as to say that it seems to shorten the duration of the sickness. But your kid will hate it, and hate you for forcing it on them, even when they know it themselves that it clears everything up and that they'll feel much better afterwards. To me it's like 10 seconds of suffering in exchange for a full several hours' worth of comfort. But sometimes those little idiots would rather sniffle and feel miserable the whole day instead.
