India farm protests

You may have seen rallies in the lower mainland and around the world supporting Indian farmers who are holding a massive protest that have lasted for months in New Delhi. They are the biggest protests in history. Police have tried to use barricades, ditches and even beaten farmers but nothing has stopped them from coming, many on tractors.

This is what it is a about.

the size of the protests.

People have been are sleeping in the streets. Charity's like Khalsa aid have provided large tents.

Today is republic day in India and farmers planned a large tractor protest. police are trying to stop them.

Live stream of the massive protests happening right now.

I mean they love Modi like a god, cuz he's all anti Muslim, and voted for him in droves, but he had long been an advocate of decentralizing and deregulation of the agriculture industry, he did similar things as governor of gujarat, it worked really well for him too back then (gujarat had like an incredible growth of their agro industry), granted he didn't cut farmers subsidies (I don't think) but they should've seen it coming

I'm impressed that they've been protesting peacefully, and good luck to them, but they kinda gave modi too much power, and it doesn't look like he's going to budge

Oh wow, another right-wing demagogue voted in by the same people he went ahead and fucked over?

I've heard of that before... :lol

In every case we see this happen, it's much deserved. When will people learn?

I don't think the people protesting voted for modi. modi was voted in by hindu nationalists.

Saw a couple of interestingly decorated tractors going up Main Street around 3:00 pm today. Pretty sure it was related to this protest.

Majority of the protesters are Sikhs from Punjab not the people talked about in that article.

They had supporting rallies today.

This one is a tractor rally from last week in Langley.

People who are protesting bought supplies to last them for months. Khalsa Aid a charity out of the U.K. Brought in toilets, tents and a mall where people can get supplies for free.

Greta Thunberg under investigation for posting a tweet supporting farmers. The tweet had a link to a toolkit that showed people how to support farmers.

The government of India and its supporters looking stupider every day.

NFL player JuJu Smith-Schuster donated 10K to help the farmers. Rihanna posted on twitter about the farmers and now other celebrities have followed. Indian government supporters are calling her a porn singer.

Singer Diljit Dosanjh who has been supporting the farmers since day one released this song about her. Music by Surreys Intense.

I noticed a lot of people complaining that Indian celebrities and athletes aren't supporting the farmers, even though westerners are. Really sets up a divide doesn't it?

StylinRed 02-04-2021 06:03 PM

Westerners want something to support/complain about, celebrities want something they can complain about safely that won't hurt their wallets, and make their fans think they care

You don't see celebrities protesting about uighurs in concentration camps, and uighur women being raped and sterilised. The latter being a big issue for feminist celebrities too, but protesting that would mean their movies and advertising deals being nixed in China

Same reason Indian celebrities staying out of this, and HK celebrities staying quiet during the riots, except for a few, who are now blacklisted

Manic! 02-04-2021 06:37 PM

Some Indian celebs have come out to support the farmers after Rihanna came out. Many Punjabi singers have been supporting the farmers. Most celebs in India are afraid of the government and the billionaires behind the bill. Government supporters have threatened to rape and kill Gretta and have made fun of Rihanna being beat up by Chris Brown.

Diljit Dosanjh has been beefing with actress and government mouthpiece Kangana Ranaut.

Diljit Dosanjh and Kangana Ranaut got into a war of words on Twitter today (February 3) after the release of the singer's new single, Riri (Rihanna). Diljit Dosanjh had released a new song dedicated to Rihanna after her viral tweet supporting the ongoing farmers' protests. The song went viral and has over 395k views already.

Reacting to the song, Kangana accused Diljit of trying to make money from the situation. Her tweet led to yet another war of words between the two.

After over a year of protests the Indian government has repealed the farm laws!!!!

https://www.livemint.com/news/india/...291720812.html

Quote:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the nation at 9 am. In a stunning U-turn, the prime minister has decided to repeal all three agricultural reform laws that have sparked almost a year of massive protests by farmers. He said his cabinet will take the decision next month.

"We have decided to repeal all three farm laws. We will start the constitutional process to repeal all the three laws in the parliament session that starts at the end of this month," Modi said in an address to the nation.

half of his policies are not thought thru. gst, demonetization, and this to name a few. he is a populist leader, Donald trump of India. i for one don't hope he's re-elected. but then again, no real opposition leader either.

320icar 11-19-2021 09:04 AM

It’s been a year since I researched this, but that’s great news

CivicBlues 11-19-2021 09:10 AM

Great news, and I'm sure the Surrey Jacks driving around in their Escalades honking in front of the Indian Consulate downtown is what tipped Modi's hand.

Hondaracer 11-19-2021 09:14 AM

Lol

Yea, never seen so many Rolls Royce together then when I was driving home in the midst of the protest.

What tipped his hand was the up coming elections. People at protests around the world also raised a lot of money to support the farmers protesting. They raised so much that Khalsa Aid asked people to stop donating. Having celebrities like Rihanna post about it did not hurt.

StylinRed 11-19-2021 03:39 PM

So many have died, I don't think him caving in will save him, if it does tho smh
