I used an app on my iPhone that actually worked quite well and was super cheap. I don't have it installed anymore but I suspect there would be an option there that'd be ideal.

Your ears should be good enough, lol. Free. Just train yourself and take the time.

I used to have perfect pitch, but the older I got, the worse it got. Studies have shown people can actually learn perfect pitch. I found it to be a curse, most of the time. Good thing Im not into playing music seriously, anymore. Playing for fun is way more enjoyable. Listening to musicians play/sing out of tune used to drive me nuts. I've learned to tune it out (pun intended).

Worse thing.......... playing a piano that is out of tune. Which reminds me. The piano at home has not been played since my daughter moved out. Wait........ she stopped playing ten, maybe more years ago. I should check it out. I have so much crap on top of it, I don't think I can open the cover/lid. When we first got it like 25 years ago, we took care of it. Now. it's covered in music books, CD, records, etc. Probably a couple mm of dust.........

Just remembered. I have, somewhere, a Korg portable tuner. 1/4 inch jack input, built-in mic, analog sweep display and tone generator. It was quite the piece back in the day. It was more for the other players in the group. Nothing worse than an instrument being out of tune from the others. Anyway........... carry on carrying on.

Seriously, they're all about the same. Not rocket science. A $20 jobby off CL will do the trick. Not sure why you would spend anymore than that .. what feature you want other than tune?

I use an android app called gStrings

punkwax 02-18-2021 05:53 PM

I’ve used this method without fail since I was 8.

lowside67 02-19-2021 01:12 PM

Lol, that only works if your low E string is already perfect - otherwise you just tuned your entire guitar sharp or flat...

tuning fork time................

as long as it is in tune, itself. Always warm up that sucker under the arm. Cold affects the tuning fork. phone app's best, but they didn't have them back in the day.

Speaking of tuning forks...........

sexual healing is which one again? Second Chakra. I'm getting good vibes from this chick.

guitar tuna was great for my ukelele

MG1 02-22-2021 11:15 AM

LOL....... Every time I hear or see the word, ukulele, I think of my old friend, Peter Luongo. He's like the grandfather of the ukulele in these parts. Before he got into ukulele, he was an accordion player. Played at one of his relatives' restaurants on The Drive. That's where I got to know him. Anyway, way off topic. Back to tuning................
