Terrorism charges are also possible against Nathaniel Veltman, 20, of London, said Det.-Insp. Paul Waight at a news conference. Veltman appeared in court via video link Monday afternoon.

"There is evidence that this was a planned, premeditated act and that the family was targeted because of their Muslim faith," said Waight.

"This is a devastating loss of four members of our community," added police Chief Steve Williams at an afternoon news conference.

The names of the victims aren't being released at this time, at the request of family members.

The family members who died are a:

74-year-old woman.
46-year-old man.
44-year-old woman.
15-year-old girl.

A nine-year-old boy remained in hospital with serious injuries.

Police say that at 8:40 p.m. ET, the family was walking along Hyde Park Road and were waiting to cross the intersection, in northwest London, when the truck mounted the curb and struck them.

What a piece of shit the guy is.

This is disturbing, I feel terrible for that family and that poor 9 year old losing his entire family as well, that's so fucked.

Domestic Terrorism for sure, lets not discount it.

I wish they elaborated on why they think it was a hate crime.

Like what's wrong with a person that does something like this?

I'm curious how do you plan to run over a family with a vehicle anyway? Do they always walk together or something? It seems a bit odd on the planning side unless he had planned to do something else to this particular family and then just saw them and acted?

^^^ the general area they were attacked at(don't know exactly where along Hyde Park they were attacked) is nearby several mosques driving distance anyway

So the area likely has a lot of Muslim people, so if he planned this, it'd depend on how thorough he was, was it any Muslim, or this particular family, they must go on nightly walks if it were them in particular

(thought they were a 10min walk from the nearest mosque, but my Google maps was set to drive)

I assume they also gathered this was a hate crime based on the actual perpetrator's comments to police upon his arrest.

In before mental illness and he gets 2 years probation. All these racist cases in the last 2 years in lower mainland against Asians, all recorded on video and the gov all of a sudden decide to call it terrorism now?

It's already written, even if it wasn't a terrorist attack he's getting life with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
