Hit and Run

Had a Hit and run incident of my parked car. 😭 Saw the Idiot driver of a truck took off when I looked out the balcony after my alarm went off. Clearly there was plenty of space and still backs into my parked car. I didn’t catch his licence plate. 😣 Reported to ICBC and waiting to hear back.

Incident didn’t happen at my house. I do notice the neighbours have a surveillance, but I doubt they will provide me info since it’s a friend of theirs who owns the truck. 🤷🏻$♀️ Do I need to report to the police?

Call non emergency #, and check your entire street for cars with dashcams

The neighbors response will depend on their decency

He was parked in front of your house? He must be a neighbour or visiting a neighbour, house? apartment? Hard for most peoples residential cams to pick up on license plates. Any logos on that truck?

I've been hit and run twice, both times I got a call from the cops before I left the house.

I noticed the women answering the phone at icbc automatically assume you are scamming, the one was extra short with me until the next time I talked to her. She actually apologized afterwards. So be prepared to deal with them, keep your cool.

It wasn't at my house. I was dropping off stuff for someone. I usually take snapshot of my car when I go out. Only got a slight image of the corner of the truck's back from the side, which doesn't help.

dont think theres much u can do unless u got some sort of video evidence. But before video evidence my buddy got in a hit and run by a van, similar to u, was parked at a friends house and someone in the neighborhood hit him. We came back and drove around the neighborhood and found the van. We broke out the tape measure, took pics, there was also paint transfer. Gold paint on his Black Golf and vice versa. ICBC ruled him at fault.

If you know which home the vehicle came from you can go have a chat with resident or get the police to do a door knock. Honestly, if you have no idea which vehicle it was and if you didn't see it happen. ICBC and Police have no evidence to work with.

Most likely I will have to pay for the repairs out of my own pocket with ICBC's deductable.

If anyone has any bodyshop recommendation, please let me know. Thanks!

I dont think thats how it works. Pretty sure all u have to pay for is your deductible.

Twinstar collision does great work

All depends on how much is the deductible. It varies depending on the policy.

The other concern is with price of EG, this hood replacement plus paint job might get the car written off.

GIZZ 09-21-2021 07:51 AM

$80 for a green hood https://www.empireabbotsford.com/inv...x.php?id=16988

they have 2 green sedans, this one looks better. It arrived aug 20th, chances are it's still there.

Sorry to hear. Only if you can convince ICBC that it was not self damaged, can you fix it by just paying the deductible. Obviously the easiest way is if you had a dashcam. If not, then it could be a battle.

I'm a big advocate on dashcams.

After catching 3 hit-n-runs, and 1 in traffic accident where they used a false witness.
I wouldn't even drive anymore without having a dashcam on me.

That dashcam paid itself 4 times over.
