They wanted $600 for full coverage insurance even without a driver history? Or you brought your history with you.

Amazing haha… I’ve always read NZ has some pretty strict road rules though, but I can’t remember the context now.

How are you liking it there so far? Which area did you locate to? Should post about your adventure in the travel forum!

If I was feeling generous after winning the lottery and decided to gift trollface a golf R, I can’t even do that without him having to pay the tax on the golf r ?!? What horseshit is this!? I might as well move back to communist China

Sure you can, you pay the tax for him too!

trollface 11-29-2022 11:24 AM

The woman asked me a bunch of questions about my driving record, and it's all entered on good will by Canadian passport / DL mix

The people that drive here are are nuts, I drove to Piha yesterday, through the winding roads, it's all 35-55 zoned, there a good 4-6 of us all keeping 70-90 in slalom.... Not sure if I got a good batch of randoms, or this is just life :ahwow:

20C weather :fullofwin: how can I complain.
Il probably end up posting bits and pieces on random threads. Will be in Raglan most of the time

/ Not Canada

I just picked up a car in NZ, was expecting to pay 300$ on 2500$.
Transfer tax was 9$ :awwyeah:

Then I went to get insurance, expecting like 1500$ per year for basic
Was 182$ for 12 months, if I wanted full coverage 600$, I had to ask the lady a second time to confirm the numbers :derp:

Then I went to get gas, everything else was 75-90% cheaper than Vancouver, so my brain automatically assumed gas would be cheap too.
2.70$ for regular :drunk:

Did you get a visa to live and work there? Or you doing some kind of TG shenanigans with buying a car?

Landed on 28th at noon, bought a car 28th 6pm by some auction site without even seeing it, surfboard 29th 2pm, hit the waves 6pm

I hear there's snow in Vancouver :troll:

That's cool! I wonder if you'll like it so much that you'll just stay there. Heard it's a great place.

Yeah there was a little white stuff that fell. Not sure what all the fuss was about :awwyeah:

I'm pretty sure mikemhg is trolling this forum, and westopher fell for it

Gonna derail this thread some more :accepted:

Went in for an HVAC interview two days ago, by the looks of it, I have a temp position for the next 3 months.
The one thing I messed up is not getting a local bank account and tax number set up in advance.

If I'm lucky, they are gonna let me know tomorrow if they can just bank my hours, otherwise I'm gonna need to wait 2-3 weeks before they can legally employ me

The pay is probably gonna be half of what I normally make, but considering: I don't have 10k in tools with me, I'm here temporarily, it's part time, and way more than me getting some serving or retail job, il take it

I'm excited for you. I'm too established now in Vancouver(2nd kid coming, big mortgage) to do something like this and if you don't mind, make a new thread so I can live through your experiences.

Anyone knows the cutoff year that ICBC isn't using blue/black book for taxation and goes old style by what you declared you bought?

Is it 20 years? Or 2000 and older?

68style 01-17-2023 01:39 PM

Yes 99 and older is on the old system

JDMDreams 01-17-2023 02:01 PM

Or JDM cars

Darn, so not the last 20 years as per kelly blue book eh?

The Producer 03-16-2023 03:44 PM

i didn't think I could hate ICBC more but I have a new peeve

Over the course of the year I visit many different brokers. I don't care who it is - whoever is closer. I have zero loyalty to the brokers. Pick up, drop off, swap plates - whatever.

Now that the online renewal has begun - i thought this would reduce my interaction w useless brokers.

I have received 5!! reminder calls in the past 3 days that my insurance is up this week - all from different brokerages. Places I have been sure - but not for this specific car. Does every broker I've ever been to now have unlimited access to the ICBC database to see what cars are up for renewal?

FUCK OFF I KNOW IT'S DUE. WHY WOULD I PAY EARLY. NEVER CALL ME AGAIN

I hope they're getting screwed by the online renewals. The whole system is shit.

Leave em a review on google, spam is spam

Dbone 03-17-2023 09:10 AM

I went to renew online, and it said I had to download some bullshit government app for my phone? Why would I give them that kind of access?

SSM_DC5 03-17-2023 11:29 AM

Isn't it the bc services app? It's linked to a lot of other government sites for using online services.
