poor woman.

"Despite making history and spending only 45 days in the job before resigning, Liz Truss is set to be offered the same package all former residents of No 10 have received.

But what are the perks she could get?

Public allowance
All former prime ministers are able to claim the Public Duty Costs Allowance (PDCA), currently set at a maximum of £115,000 per year."

If max is £115,000 per year, maybe there is a formula ... like if you only were on the job for 45 days, you get £10,000 /yr ... hopefully, someone would have thought this through and have some sort of common sense.

Nope it's a 115K for life no matter how short your run is. Boris got the same deal.

whitev70r 10-22-2022 04:39 PM

Welp, at least King Charles III will have something official to do ... installing the next PM.

Manic! 10-23-2022 04:58 PM

Boris has dropped out of the race.

Jesus fuck

whitev70r 10-23-2022 08:59 PM

Good that Boris Johnson is not running, that would have been just a f*cking joke if he did. Sunak is front runner so looking like UK may just have their first brown PM!

Now the $60M question is, 'How will the new racist king feel about this?'

SkinnyPupp 10-23-2022 09:19 PM

Doesn't matter if it's Boris or Lizz or anyone else

Badhobz 10-24-2022 06:24 AM

is this like a canary in the coal mine for western democracies or something? Thanks to idiots like Trump, Boris, and now stupid Lizz, it really erodes people's faith in a working democratic government.

Italians already gave up and elected this right wing crazy lady. Putin is basically a Czar from the old days. How soon before other nutbags step up and become "elected" into power? lets not forget Hitler was also "elected".

I give Trudeau a lot of shit, but ill take him over any of these fucktards.

When upward mobility keeps shrinking, quality of life stop improving (and gets worse in some cases), and the sense of "we're in it together" weakens then the Conservative (rich people) narrative of "Gov't is the problem" ends up taking hold for working and middle class voters and we get these kinds of leaders.

Pitting people against each other has always been the classic playbook of the rich and powerful and it's working as well as it has in a century.

Add in that it really sucks to be a politician nowadays and no wonder so few people see it as a noble career choice to make.

I hope Canadian voters will keep this in mind when the next federal election comes some time within the next 2 years. Alberta's Danielle Smith is already a step in exactly that direction, and Poilievre is an even bigger step in that same direction and at the larger national stage. FailFish

UK settled the question of Leadership of the Cons/PM thing ... first person of color to be PM of UK! Rishi Sunak ... glad it was efficient and painless ... not that it affects me one iota.

whitev70r 10-24-2022 10:00 AM

Badhobz 10-24-2022 10:03 AM

Hondaracer 10-24-2022 10:06 AM

Crazy thay the system we model ours after is working so amazing in so many places! Long live the monarchy and everything it entails!!

bcrdukes 10-24-2022 10:13 AM

Diwali + Indian PM. Maybe there's hope for Manic where Sunak will get the jewels back to India. :troll:

whitev70r 10-24-2022 10:33 AM

After King Charles does the ceremonial swearing in and formality ... 'Now about that crown of yours, can we talk about that before I work on the budget for the monarchy this year?'

Apparently, it is in the range of £102.4 million per year :suspicious:

Let the Sunak-ssance begin!

And yes, while we've modeled our system of government on theirs, we've tweaked it somewhat and the Canadian PM's control of caucus is much stronger and pretty much discounts any of the parliamentary shenanigans in the UK from happening here.

Manic! 10-24-2022 01:10 PM

I don't like his politics but ukip members must be dying right now. Hiring an Indian to run a company when it is in trouble is par for the course.

Yup, Vancouver elected Ken Sim so now we can keep on blaming Asians for the City's ills when he eventually fails spectacularly at trying to solve all issues that are out of control of the city's jurisdiction..

StylinRed 10-24-2022 03:32 PM

Ken Sim is supposedly bffs with Chip Wilson, so that explains why he was elected, and what we can probably expect to come for Vancouver, more bike lanes, n more of the same

Mandatory Yoga pants for everyone?

whitev70r 10-24-2022 04:07 PM
