This story missed the real oniony part.

TL;DR: "Have you thought about just killing yourself instead of waiting for that wheelchair lift?"

>A paralympic army veteran told stunned lawmakers in Canada when she claimed that a government official had offered to give her euthanisia equipment while fighting to have a wheelchair lift installed in her home.

>Retired corporal Christine Gauthier, who competed at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics, testified on Thursday that the unnamed veterans affairs case worker had offered in writing to provide her with a medically-assisted dying device, the CBC reported.

>“I have a letter saying that if you’re so desperate, madam, we can offer you MAID, medical assistance in dying,” Ms Gauthier, 52, told a House of Commons veterans affairs committee, according to the CBC.

Welcome to Canada, it’s not so bad though

If you’re too poor death is also an option as opposed to assistance

And who killed lifetime pensions for veterans and shut down multiple veterans offices?

Spoiler!

Hondaracer 12-05-2022 02:04 AM

And there’s actually multiple people in the que waiting to die instead of be homeless:

Canada in a nutshell, Syrian refugees complaining about their accommodations in $300 a night downtown Vancouver hotels:

And Canadian armed forces veterans being forced into euthanasia instead of homelessness.

Umm what does one thing have to do with the other? Not to mention the fact the 2nd article is 6 years old....Those Syrians are probably productive members of society now.

i mean they arent really FORCED, they just decided that it's an.... easier? better? way out. pretty friggin sad but i understand their decision. better to go out on their own terms than to limp on living a sad/painful life.

Im glad we even have this sort of thing.

The challenge with this as a provided option is the OP's scenario where service providers/case managers/social workers 'offer' it or pose it in a way that seems to strongly suggest that maybe you should end your life.

Secondly, Cdn gov't is going even broader, legislation going forward (if not already passed) that people who have mental health can ask for MAID.

yeah thats my go to place. Sal's Shawarma. Their chicken is good, but still not as good as places in the east coast like boustan https://boustan.ca/ BrokeBack

I have gone to Sal's twice and I don't really like it......

But I do always see various large groups of ethnically relevant older dudes eating there so I assume they wouldn't support a place that wasn't at least a bit authentic.

donk. 12-05-2022 03:53 PM

Thread went from euthanasia to shawarma

Love it

Badhobz 12-05-2022 04:02 PM

If I keep eating at Sal's, ill need Medically assisted suicide
