do it!

just make sure if you are getting the PPF, get the one that wraps over the edges so you dont get this

thats my biggest gripe with PPF. most installers leave the edges and it looks like shit after a while. That black grime builds up and you can clearly see where the PPF is.

Also PPF isnt/wasnt that cheap so if youre spending 5-6k for a full body ppf, you might as well do a wrap for 6-7k which offers PPF like protection but more interesting colors.

PPF also comes in some colors nowadays and even this chromatic one which is clear, but adds a pretty neat rainbow-y effect once light hits it.

I think most installers leave the edge because that's how the manufacturer created the files. Leaving the edges allows the film to stick better and longer because less curves. Also by leaving the edges, it allows the installer more room to manipulate the film. In my opinion, it just comes down to, much easier and faster for installers to lay it down and move on to the next one while being able to provide a decent warranty period.

i was quoted 7k for a full body stealth ppf, no way am i gonna spend that much for a car without a special paint option/edition

ive been fine all my life without ppf and im sure ill be fine going forward haha :accepted:

*knock on wood*

Badhobz 03-14-2023 03:39 PM

i too was quoted around that price. tahts why i decided to go wrap. im pretty sure my wrap was a bit more expensive than average (~10k), but the quality of the wrap and the installer is quite good.

Where did you get your wrap done?

Badhobz 03-17-2023 10:24 AM

Wrapworkz. Although if I were to do it all over again I’d probably use Vancity vinyl. Jacky’s a really awesome dude and his boys know what they are doing. It wouldn’t have been 10k probably 5-7k for the same wrap.

dark0821 03-17-2023 06:59 PM

I wasn't sure about the price until I saw the wrap in person... under the sun... photos of that LC doesnt do it justice.... those metallic flakes in that burgundy/purple/redish glow shinning thru the miami blue...

A good installer will leave some extra to wrap the edge around - you can barely tell that my car was PPFed because Ken made sure to tuck everything that he could to hide the edges well.

I think Badhobz and the other guys who saw my car at the stock n noob meet were trying to find the edges and they could only find the area around the headlights.

BlackV62K2 03-18-2023 09:51 AM

Got a full ppf done by Ken and his work is top notch. Majority wrapped and tucked. Ones to the edge you have to look really close to even tell. Crazy he’s a one man show for his shop.

Badhobz 03-18-2023 10:39 AM

Yes a good ppf ain’t cheap. The amount of work required is just as much if not
More so than a wrap (cuz ppf is thicker and harder to mold around the edges)

I’d still go the wrap route though. I mean a good wrap is both protective and interesting.
My ratrolla land yacht is like all different shades and colors depending on the light.

Has anybody heard or had some ppf done through Speed Projects Laboratory before? They’ve been popping up in my fb feed as I’m browsing for ppf and ceramic coating shops.

I had them install some XPEL a few weeks ago. Nothing crazy, just an exterior luggage piece and some interior pieces.

Was pretty happy with the service and quality of installation, but prices were a bit more on the expensive side compared to other places I inquired.

radeonboy 04-14-2023 04:19 PM

Does anyone know a place that offers tinted PPF?

Badhobz 04-14-2023 04:37 PM

Vancity vinyl has it. Give Jacky a call

jaaagman 04-15-2023 09:09 AM

Do you guys have any recommendations the amount of PPF to get? I was thinking full frontal + mirrors + rockers. Any idea if there should be a brand of vinyl that I should look for when getting a quote? (e.g. XPEL or Gyeon seems to be popular, not sure if there are any other brands that are commonly used by shops around here)

roastpuff 04-15-2023 09:19 AM

Xpel Suntek Dynotek Gyeon, are all fairly similar.

I did full front + mirrors. Also did B/C pillars thanks to stupid gloss black.

jaaagman 04-28-2023 09:52 PM

Has anyone used Gleamworks Detailing?

On a side note, in one of the quotes that I got, I was told that the MX-5 was classified as a midsize car :seriously:

They probably mistook it for the CX-5?

Kappa

Along similar lines ... a good quality but not too expensive place to get 3M put on bumper to protect rock chips? Not ballin enough to go PPF.

donk. 06-19-2023 12:28 PM

Wouldn't it be the same price?
90% of the work is prep, 10% is actual application

675$/clearbra Vancouver ppf for front bumper only

Could try asking them if 3m is cheaper?

Badhobz 06-19-2023 01:08 PM

Also check out dealership, they might have a factory ppf.

Like the front section ppf on the LC from the dealer is only 455 bucks installed ! It just looks like ass with that line on the hood but if you’re okay with that then it’s a cheap way to go

Anyone heard of Vancouver Clearbra? Good or no good?
