Super interesting. Really gotta applaud those engineers for doing this and doing it within the limitations of having that batshit crazy Elon looking over your shoulder.

I can’t believe they threw everything out just because Elon said the initial one was too big. 5% reduction doesn’t sound that big but to reengineer the car is insane. Seriously a lot of really hard work went into this thing.

I still wouldn’t buy it but that’s okay. It’ll bring up the entire industry and hopefully force traditional automakers to innovate.

twitchyzero 12-02-2023 01:59 PM

i think that part was exaggerated?

because in the podcast btw jason and derek mentioned it was a rapid 3 months from idea to what was shown in 2019

but the engineers were constricted to that form and materials

though back then a lot of comments were 'it's not possible without mirrors and big crash bumper, the real thing will look nothing like this etc' appears to have been defied

For what is largely a testbed of new technology (DBW steering and 48v electrical arch) it seems like a huge waste of money to do it this way - just build a new Model S instead. And neither DBW steering and 48v arch are THAT hard to do - it's about commitment and resources.

The truck itself seems pretty useless as a truck - a Rivian is far more practical for the outdoorsy folks, a TRX/Raptor is far more capable as an off roader, a F150/RAM EV is far better for work purposes. This is just a wank job like the Hummer - it serves no purpose for what it is.

Oh and it's the ugliest thing on the road now. It's like what would happen if a M2 were a truck but worse.

India’s version of truck nuts.

I think it’s pretty damn cool that he turned his son’s curiousity into an actual product.

A+ for dadding.

+1 for man child, I think it satisfies my inner man child too that's why I'm so drawn to it. Like this is something you would draw as a 5 year old kid and he actually ended up to be the world's richest man to make things happen. BYD but he actually built his dreams.

At least it didn't end to like this

So you are saying you need to buy 3 trucks?

Yeah they should've made a van, it would've been a hit and reach a wider market. Commercial, shuttles, vanlife etc

I have no doubt you watched them all, and maybe a few times over :lol

I think the next progression should be Cybertruck with solar panels. They have the styling for it.

Could be bs but a few sites have reported this. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.tor...-miles-day/amp

Tesla Confirms a Cybertruck Solar Panel Cover That According to Elon Musk “Can Generate 15 Miles Per Day” Will be Offered as an Accessory

noclue 12-03-2023 10:08 PM

Since they tout the cybertruck as bulletproof, do you need a permit to drive this?

whitev70r 12-03-2023 10:44 PM

^ great, local gangsters be buying these as their fleet cars.

Badhobz 12-04-2023 04:52 AM

i dont know man, its a bit too attention-grabbing at this moment. it'll have to do volumes similar to the 3 and the Y in order to blend in and become commonplace enough so that cops cant easily track and identify the vehicle

if i was a gangster the last thing i want is something that stand out-ish.

underscore 12-04-2023 08:11 AM

I'm assuming unless it's NIJ certified with an actual classification it's not officially considered bulletproof/armoured so you wouldn't need a permit?

On an unrelated note I found this picture of a bulletproof Lambo being tested, I can't imagine how cramped that thing must be after the armour is added.

radeonboy 12-04-2023 10:57 AM

IIRC Jason in the Hagerty podcast said the glass is not bulletproof, so you're still susceptible to point-blank attacks.

teggy604 12-04-2023 11:17 AM

Cybertruck = Cyber attack. Who needs guns anyways. lol.

Gangsters don’t drive Tesla’s..they come with too many cameras installed in them.

But they are good for sneaking up on mother fuckers.

Lambo Urus vs Cyber truck 1/4 mile.

68style 12-06-2023 06:45 AM

Did they need to do that race? It’s obvious which one will win.

I know which one I’d rather hear and be seen in/look at in my driveway though lol

teggy604 12-06-2023 07:22 AM

1/4 mile racing with these cars are so boring. I rather watch paint dry on the wall. lol.

68style 12-06-2023 07:40 AM

The main presenter's reaction in the car during the "race" said it best... a weak "Woohoo... okay... hmmm... yah..."

Pretty much sums it up.

Dbone 12-06-2023 09:26 AM

That carwow guy is such a "wanker". I don't know who irritates me more, him or Doug Demuro.

I can't be the only one who feels this way.
