US Northeast visit
 

Planning to hit up the cities of DC, Philly, NYC, and Boston at the end of summer. Could use some recos from anyone who's visited recently.

Been to NYC a couple times already and done all the usual tourist stuff. Will probably see the new (to me) WTC and maybe the High Line but that's about it for attractions. But otherwise looking for some cool neighborhood spots to hang out it mostly.

Got a few days each for DC, Philly, and Boston (holy fuck the hotel prices in this city are off the charts crazy).

3 days - Washington DC
2 days - Philadelphia
4 days - NYC
2.5 days - Boston (we fly out at night)

In DC you have to go to the Smithsonians if you've never been, amazing museums.

Which ones are worth it in your opinion? I mean I love a good museum and all but don't want to spend the majority of our short time in the city shuffling around indoors.

I went to the Air and Space Museum as a kid but that was probably almost 30 years ago now. I hear it's under renovation right now though and only partially open.

Any restaurant recommendations? Looking for a nice place to celebrate wife's birthday while in DC. Doesn't have to be Michelin starred or anything

I'm a big plane nerd so the Air and Space was my favourite, followed by the Natural History one. There's also the Udvar-Hazy Centre (Air and Space Museum alternate location) near the airport that I've been meaning to go to. They store the big stuff there.

Yeah we're actually flying into Dulles Airport so we'll be right next to it. Landing at like 6:30am though so not sure it'll be feasible to visit.

I don't think I could ever do a major city every 2 days ... that's not really vacay. Especially if you have kids hanging around you. Even 2 adults ... that's just plain exhausting. Don't you guys find a major city is a major city, they all kinda look like the same after a while. It's the landscape - rugged coast, mountains, oceans that's a vacay.

Boston, MA area alone ... you could stay put and do a week but stay in smaller lesser known areas.

No kids, just the 2 of us.

Yeah I get how it seems rushed but we're not total strangers to it. The reason we decided to go on this particular trip to use up our Aeroplan miles so basically flights will cost us $200 total for the two of us. It does maybe seem same-y but we've already done a ton of overseas and US/CAN travelling and now just want to "fill in the blanks" when it comes to major US destinations.

Last vacation this winter we went to Malaysia for a week mostly visiting relatives and then another week in Maldives basically doing nothing but sit on the beach/villa. So I thought we'd change it up this time with a week and a half of heavy sightseeing. If it's too much we can always just take it easy and chill at a cafe in the Village for example.

Go to 5pointz (large graffiti block unlike any other, professional artists)

The box - night club with wack shows.

If your into photography, NY is endless for amazing photo locations


Dont know what your transit ideas are, but i would highly suggest taking the metro everywhere you go. NYC is full of the most racist, messed up, degenerate drunks, clowns, bimbos, list is endless. I have so many awesome (and bad) memories from riding the metro.

I suggest walking one of the South bridges, awesome views.

If you make our way into the Cambridge area of Boston get some pickle chips here then some Maine lobster here.

I’m fairly certain I learned about Minetta Tavern here on RS in NY. The Comedy Cellar is right there as well and that made for a great evening. Had some bone marrow, the Minetta burger then caught a great show 10/10 would do again.
