I think work is impressed but so is industry from the feedback I recieved. And I'm shocked that industry standards are so low.

I think most people get the free $69/day per diem + $10-15 mobile roaming.

Add an extra 3+12% on CC spend reimbursements + aeroplan points

goddamn my previous employer was even worse than I thought if this is bare minimum.

Oops I thought I was getting more than I did. Yeah I get $130/day per diem + 60.5c/km + $150/mo on misc expenses. It feels like a pretty decent deal considering most of my lifestyle expenses are basically comp'd.

I'm in a different industry but those per diem rates are nearly double what I was getting.

Either way you should absolutely be getting some kind of per diem or coverage of your expenses. Not doing that is terrible business.

I'm also in a different industry. We don't get a per diem. Instead, we get a fixed budget, which often forces you to find creative ways to feed yourself on a shoestring budget (think poverty and welfare.)

Mileage..I think our mileage policy was designed in the 90s and hasn't really kept up with the rest of the world, so what you get is amazing in my eyes. If I went by badgerx3's definition of "somewhat professional" employer, mine is nothing like that.

I was getting 53cents per km back in 2011/2012 when I worked at a produce distributor.

I haven't really had to write anything off since.

CRA's prescribed mileage rate is 72c/km for first 5000km; 66c/km following.. so I would have liked the CRA's mileage rates.. but it is what it is.

Edit: Traum and I posted the same way. Gov or gov-adjacent work is weird. Each gov agency seems to follow a diff set of rules.. where I thought it would all match CRA's rules cause why make it complicated lol.

The CRA rate for mileage claim is 72¢/km for the first 5,000 km driven, and to 66¢/km for each additional km after that. If your company is reimburising you for less than that, I guess they are below par in this department?

Comparing gov't to non-government travel allowances is not a fair indicator of what is deemed "fair". Comparing to industry benchmarks is more relevant, but unless you know someone working in said company, how would you know what their rates are?

I can tell you this much, with experience in provincial and federal levels of gov't, the travel allowances for personal km's are low because they would rather pay for a rental car than for you to use your own personal vehicle. In the branch that I worked for, we had further policies that forced you to rent a car if the travel exceeded >30km of travel.

Your allowances for per diems are quite high, which is nice. Enjoy it.

we also got a membership to the royal vancouver yacht club too. Im pretty sure i got kicked out of both places before for swearing and being "uncouth" cuz me and a bunch of industry boys were yaking it up and swearing loudy and call everyone cunts.

They don't take kindly to my kind. Pretty sure a few monocles fell out.

Speaking of which... didnt they almost kick us out of some drive-in dump diner in Mission for swearing last time we had that RS meat!?

I'm not sure if you're joking, but I think you might actually be right net value of people on RS vs. those at the club.

So, BIC_BAWS, when are you going to show us your Rolex?

I just met up with past coworkers LOL. Our lives are so much happier without all that negativity. For the first time in awhile, I actually said "Great" when asked "how are you?". Previously, it was "I'm alright". And it truly does feel refreshing to see light again. I should hit the gym next and quit vaping. I picked up dating again. I feel more driven and I have a sense of purpose behind me. I think you and a few others mentioned that next gig should be non-profit, perhaps as a joke for some but I'm feeling good about this. I haven't felt this forward-looking or excited for what comes next in a long time.

A lot can be learned from working or volunteering from a non-profit.

I volunteer with a non-profit and it's given me a different perspective on how things work in that space, but also the benefit it provides to society. If anything, the experience has helped shaped my critical thinking positively. That process has helped me develop in my day-to-day role, so there's direct influence on how you approach situations and how to deal with people. While not glamorous, I've been nominated as a candidate to run for the board of directors this fall, so I'm excited to see how that goes.

If you enjoy that space, continue at it, but also carve out some paths towards other social enterprises or industry advocacies', but also for-profit enterprises as well. There are lots to choose from in Vancouver, so world is your oyster.

You guys wanna hear something crazy? I was so resistant to selling my cars, all my car shit, and quitting tracking cause it's my passion, but lately I've been feeling a lot like the person I missed. I'm considering liquidating everything for start-up capital. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but there's something I want to achieve before 30 and I have two years to do it.

I think on an emotionally stable standpoint - now that I don't feel like I need an escape from the world, I would be doing myself a disservice if I didn't go all or nothing in on this. And like other people said in the thread, I have time in the future to track some more or try a different car. It doesn't have to be now. I think now is my time to lock in and get shit done.
