100% it's gonna be an X1.
It's nice, it's compact, and I think the styling is about as inoffensive as it gets across their current lineup. Not that much smaller inside than an X3 either, taking the packaging wins of a transversely mounted motor.

Yep, BMW system is not just fast it even does
1) remote parking once the spot is found
2) programmed parking routes for garages and driveways
Audi, MB, Tesla systems hella slow and unreliable.

Given the requirements, I also vote for X1.

@68 - Have the parents tried self-parking and are they comfortable using it? My parents’ car has the feature but they prefer parking manually since it's something they've already done for decades.
My younger sister on the other hand is an ideal candidate for self-parking - she nearly backed my car into a ditch while learning and still needs help to this day despite getting her N.

+1 for bmw.
I had both the x1 and the x3 for loaners, and I really couldn’t tell the difference in interior space. The backup/360 camera are insanely clear especially on the large screen.
If the self park is anything like my x5 then it’s golden. I don’t have anything to compare it with but I think it’s pretty good.
Last month my dad had his friend and wife come visit us from Big6. He asked if he can take the x5 for a week. He said he doesn’t want to have 4 adults squished into the Corolla cross. But deep down I know he just wanted something a little more luxurious to chauffeur his friends in. Hahahaha I get it. I said yes, very hesitantly.
I spent the afternoon showing him how to use everything, especially the self parking adaptive, cruise and traffic assist.. Got it back a week later without any damage or wheel rash, just a shit load of fingerprints EVERYWHERE!! I asked him what he thought, he was amazed. He said the self parking worked flawlessly everytime.

One factor to keep in mind if they are gonna use cameras, all the econo brands have TERRIBLE camera quality. To the point where it's almost unusable.

Is the x1 a giant shit pile or is that no longer the case? I actually like them as far as being not the ugliest of very ugly cars and the price point is really good.

Overall very efficient use of space.
Don't expect an enthusiast car though, it's just a very competent runabout.

My dad's X5 finally bit the dust and after 7+ years of window shopping, he now has to find a new SUV.
Some poor salesman managed to lure him out of the house to take a look at an Ioniq 9 in person. He said it's too big, but thinks it will look smaller 'at ground level' because the dealership showed him a brand new one in the basement wash bay.
He's used to driving big SUVs, had an Expedition in the early 00s but now that he's in his 70s, he should not be driving something that big. The Explorer ST is perfect for him since he wants a 3-row, with a sub-6 second 0-60, for ~$80k. He said the Explorer ST is too peasant spec so I said OK fine buy the Lincoln Aviator. It's the ideal car for him: all the bells and whistles, without the Ford badge. Then he starts ho-humming about it because the ioniq 9 is faster 0-60 (cus BEV)...
Now he wants to 'wait and see' if the Ioniq 9 is small enough on street level. He also sat in the Ioniq 5N and said it was 'too geeky'. He also sat in the Santa Fe and said it was the right size. Ultimately I can see him settling for the Santa Fe but I honestly don't care because at this point literally anything is an upgrade.
He refuses to go out and shop in person and insists on shopping by spec-sheets and youtube reviews. He'll be the only person driving the car so it's beyond me why he insists on having a 3-row SUV. He's purely a home-body unless he has a doctors appointment or needs to go to safeway.
He's all talk, doesn't know what he wants and when a Goldilocks car shows up, he moves the goalpost and finds faults with it. He initially wanted a BEV, then a PHEV. Once they took away the EV rebates, he said he'd settle for a regular ICE car since he only drives at most 4000km a year. Money is not an issue here, he is extremely indecisive, which is strange because back in the day he used to change cars like he changes socks.

Thanks for everyone’s input I suggested the X1 and sent the video of its limited self driving abilities. I agree with whoever said they may not even be able to figure out how to use the tech even if it’s there though lol… that’s my suspicion. I’ll just make the 1 suggestion and leave it at that, they’ll probably do what most older people do and buy the new version of what they already have no matter what I say lol

all these cars are massive nowadays. that x1 is the size of a x3 before and the x3 is even bigger than the original x5.
