A stock F150 has some puckering moments like pacific centre or metrotown. F150 raptor that legally requires clearance lights cause it's too wide? lmao

The new Garden City Walmart Plaza is pretty terrible too ... but that's what I get for trying to drive a full size truck around a city.

The worst part is that the unloaded bed + RWD default means we're spinning up most hills too. Driving the Lightning in the wet is soooo much better

F-150 is okay under all standard / built to standard structures, the only thing you’ll endure is the aerial clanky clanking off all the gate tops or water pipes.

Newer versions of the 1 tonne trucks (F-250 and F-350) do not fit.

Is that really what it is? The Santa Cruz didn't go hard enough on utilitarian style / marketing? I mean the Subaru Baja came off pretty rugged / utilitarian and it didn't seem to do very well either. Though maybe it was just before its time.

The Santa Cruz struck me as a young lifestyle vehicle - too good looking to do real work but great for young surfers or outdoorsy types who have a bit more cash (the folks who go to Tofino on weekends). OTOH the Maverick was a budget work truck that's great for people into small home projects - no one would blink an eye at dumping a yard of mulch in the back or loading it with plywood.

The latter's demographic is much bigger than the former.

The Crosstrek crowd seems to be increasingly more in Maverick.
The official Ford account doesn't follow many people, but my friend from Richmond is one of them:
https://www.instagram.com/maverickfx4/

Tech girlies/guys my age (mid 20s) will ONLY look at hybrid or EV, so the Santa Cruz is out.

The Mav is pretty awesome, especially now hybrid comes in AWD. And that Insta is pretty good

Oh man, Maverick pricing is tough.

A RAV4 Hybrid XLE Premium (Pleather seats, power liftgate, self drive, moonroof) is 45.
To get the same stuff, you'd need Maverick Lariat which costs 49.

Seems there is no way to get adaptive cruise or pleather on the XLT at 42.
That's equivalent to "LE Hybrid" trim, which is 39 on the RAV.

Their cloth seats looked decent. And for a small utility truck, I wouldn't want a power lift gate.

My former bro in law had a RAV4 and after he was not my bro in law anymore he bought a Maverick because I guess that’s what guys do when their inner bad boy is ready to rock and roll again lol

Isn't the Santa Cruz just a reskin of the Tucson / Sportage, which have AWD hybrid and AWD PHEV configs?

Seems like a missed opportunity on Hyundai's part.

What's happening? Gas prices dropping to like $1.34 ... that's like it's time to get a V8 price!

I bet that, at the time, they didn't think their hybrids were up to task of towing (or of doing "truck" activities) so it wasn't part of the development plan and now the sales volume is low enough that they can't justify the development costs to put in a hybrid powertrain.

Looking at Canadian pricing ($45-53k vs $37-50k for the Maverick) the Santa Cruz looks pretty competitive outside of the lack of a hybrid. 281hp standard, tows 5000lbs, is WAY nicer inside and out than a Maverick but it definitely doesn't look like it's suited for "work".

I hope Hyundai gives the Santa Cruz another generation though I always felt it would have been better as a Kia due to the younger, sportier demographic Kia goes after.

On a tangent, I'd love to see Honda come back with a new Element. Same basic style and size as the original with the hybrid. Would sell like crazy - it would easily would move 120-150k units a year in the states.

Both of these seem like no-brainers. Automotive product planners seem way out of touch.

^ yah, no way, we did not. If we did, I would have been on the Golf R wagon so long ago. Best thing people could do is to try and convert their Golf TSI wagon with 4motion to a 'R' look and feel.

We always just get the boring stuff whereas Europe has so many variations and options on drivetrains.

I don't understand why it is dropping so much, esp when oil futures shot up after Trump seized a Venezula oil tanker.

It isn't making any sense to me, but hey, I'll take those lowered retail prices!

https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...1/10best-2026/

Car and Driver released their 10 best cars and 10 best trucks list but the best part of the article IMO is the listing of all the best road trip stops in America. I miss Waffle House a lot and I'd love try Cracker Barrel out.

I'm surprised the two Lucids made the list considering how troublesome their cars are in terms of quality but otherwise no surprises from the C/D list.

The Lucids are MAGIC when it works.

Literally can't find the words to describe how well they drive, it's better than the mid 2000s BMW secret sauce.
