this movie has some background scenes at sfu. the stairs with rocks. is this tv movie kind of like "legend of earthsea" starring kristen kreuk?

i've never seen the old battlestar galatica, but i was told they changed alot for the new ones, i guess to make it more up to date with the new sci fi stuff...
but so far it seems interesting, but i wonder how many seasons they can make of it... because it doesn't seem like theres a lot to say... it's a convoy of ships trying to find earth?! with robots chasing them... ??? are there other species?

I'm a fan of the original series.
The new series is very refreshing, and is respectful enough to pay tribute to the original series through the use of old data in the new series (names of charachters, the vipers, old cylon schematics, even the design of galactica & a few other ships).
Yeah it's shot in vancouver, hence the SFU setting. It has as much potential as other Sci-Fi shows. DS9 was nothing but the daily life onboard a space station, and that went on for 4 years.
Voyager was about a ship that was heading home, and that was able to complete several seasons as well. The story of Galactica has started with so many sub-plots that there is potential for many different episodes. I've already downloaded episode 11, so I'm very "into" this series already :)

Ooooo.... I saw parts of the behind the scenes... looks pretty good!

i read the books... then saw the original series... and it ruined it for me. i had much cooler looking ships in my mind when i was reading the book and the cylons didn't look as stupid.
if you remember the A-Team intro credits when it shows Dirk Benedict, the actor who plays Face, you see him in a scene on a Hollywood lot where an actor, in Cylon costume, walks by. i always laugh at that because Dirk Benedict played Starbuck in Galactica.
0000000000
01-12-2005, 10:22 PM
LOL, I know the episode you're talking about.
Funny how Dirk is better remembered as "Face", rather than "Starbuck"
Also, Lorne Green is better remembered for his role in "Bonanza".
It's a shame how the original Galactica series has been overshadowed in every way (by star wars & Star Trek, the actors remembered for other roles, the lack of sindicated re-runs, etc).

hahah... true. when is the new series being aired on Space? i want to catch it. do the cylons look as stupid or do they look properly menacing now? and does galatica and the vipers look the same?

so wait, there's the four part miniseries... and because that was successful, they're coming out with 13 more episodes right as an actual series on space? hmm... i missed the miniseries as well... any idea of how i can watch it? anyone have it downloaded?

UK has the exclusive rights to air the episodes before North America.
So since it's debut in early november, I've been d/l the ripped episodes of BT.
Not to worry though. The episodes will be starting either tomorrow or tonight on Space.

Yeah. The old one was alright for its time. But to imagine a fleet of ships cruising through space for 100's of years, and not a single piece of deterioration....kinda lame.
In this new series, you'll notice that adama's uniform is actually getting more & more tattered as the episodes go on. Furthermore, the Vipers that were once in showroom condition continually to look more & more battered.

I have a feeling Roslin is the last Cylon. In the last season, right after Caprica Six turned herself into Galactica, she, Boomer, and Roslin met in a dream sequence at that theater.
It's the same theater where D'Anna saw the final 5.
The final 5 are unique, so it could explain how Roslin has "cancer".

like can cylons make human clones? and why the fuck does like everyone talk to imaginary ppl? its like watching east hastings in the future (O___o)!?!?!!??
last time i watched a full episode was when the lady was voted president, and they started manning stuff up. now whenever i see it, they seem to be in the same place trying to do the same stuff, trying to accuse the same freaking person for the 6th time that he's a freaking cylon, just like 5 seasons ago, accusing the same person 12 times in 16 consecutive episodes (@_______@)!!!!
like dude its so freaking complex its not even funny

professor: "nooooo!!! (>__________<)"
*end of one episode*
*next episode*
president lady: "find me the cylon spy!! (O__O)!!!"
professor: "talks to sexy blonde in his mind for like 45 mins and has cyber sex"
ship captain: "the professor's a cylon!! find him!!"
*professor dies and end of another waste of Chopstick's 1 hour*
*next episode*
professor: "ms president, i've found your cylon spy!! hes the ship captain!! (O__O)=>!!"
ship captain: "(>__<) egads!!!"
*next episode*
*in a room, with the prof, president, and ship captain*
some girl that got blown up in a previous episode: "i've found earth (~__~)..."
president: "she's a cylon!! (O___O) arrest her now!!!"
like fuck, stop saying the c word..... (-____-)....

Best frakking show ever. Although I do think they haven't written Lee Adama's character very well in the past, aside from the season 3 finale. The long monologue he did in the courtroom was fantastic.
Ever since Tory was revealed to be one of the Final Five, I've wondered if the writters originally planned that Billy was going to be one of the Final Five before they decided to kill him off. Ron D. Moore has stated that he knew who the Final Five were when he created the show, however killing Billy off was a decision they made much later beause they didn't like the actor not commiting.

So who watched last night's mid-season cliffhanger/finale? Pretty crazy how it all ended. The rest of the season is supposedly not going to broadcast until 2009.:(
There's so many unanswered questions/storylines...I'm wondering how they're going to explain them all with only about 10 episodes left. Some of the less obvious ones are:
-How did Saul Tigh and Six in captivity (two cylons) conceive a baby?
-What's the importance of Hera and the opera house?
-What's up with the imaginary Six and Baltar that only Baltar can see?
-Is Gaita going to mentally recover from losing his leg?
-Adama has witnessed Saul Tigh aging over 30 years, yet he is a cylon?
The one that bothers me the most is the imaginary Six and Baltar, since it's one of the longest running plot devices, and has never been explained. They have only proven that it's not a chip/implant in his head, yet it must be more than imaginary since they know things that the real Baltar wouldn't know.
El Bastardo
06-14-2008, 09:50 AM
I think that they had replaced Tigh at some point with a Cylon, and thats how the aging thing stopped.
And Gaeta will just continue to sing every time he feels his leg. Did you know that the actor who plays Gaeta was the voice of one of the characters from the English dubbed Viz video version of Ranma 1/2?
Oh, and in case you missed me being a huge Caprica mark in another thread:

I don't know. If two Cylons can have a baby or even one Cylon + one human, why couldn't there just be other Cylons that can age?
godwin
06-16-2008, 03:21 PM
I think Tig etc are a different type of Cylons, hence he can reproduce and age.
I thought Gaita recovered because he verified the emergency signal for Kara.
I thought "Imaginary" six disappeared after Baltair became religious... but I wonder if Natalia six will come back after resurrected on the resurrection ship before it was destroyed?
I was wondering what happened to the rest of the Cylons.. did they nuke Earth (or eerr CGI version of Vancouver from Spanish banks;)?

The last scene is New York and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Earlier today someone on IMDB linked to Bear McCreary's latest blog post about this episode where he confirmed both our Earth and the Brooklyn bridge. I have theory but i've written it too many times in too many threads and don't feel like typing it up again, though I'll sum it up on one sentance. The scared scrolls are backwards, mixing lies with truth, the show takes place up to 4500 years in our future, the ruins are from a period in Earth's history not far in the future from our own and the 13th tribe never left kobol for Earth.

I hope they will reveal two really big plot issues that are bothering me. The first is the imaginary Six and Baltar, and how they manifest themselves and why. The second is how we see a young Saul Tigh in flashbacks with a young Bill Adama.

Great episode. I like how Starbuck had no reservations about popping one of the guys holding Lee. Crazy as she may be, she's loyal, no doubt about it.
I'm disgusted with how so many people are taking part in Gaeta's revolution, but it makes for such good entertainment. Remeber what Admiral Adama said, "There will be no amnesty"..
Promo for next episode looks nuts:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCvFaJvQ8XA
Just to give some perspective, Gaeta has some valid arguments for trying to take over. This is from the comments from the above video: "Frankly, Gaeta has good reasons for the revolution - he'd not "taking it out" on others. All of his experience has shown that cylons can't be trusted (NC, in the webepisodes, every battle they fought, and yes, Anders shooting his frakking leg off and the incident not being questioned.) Adama was forcing the issue of alliance & not allowing the Quorum/civilians to make the call of what is right for them. The cylons destroyed their lives and they aren't going to suddenly want to be best friends. "

I can't believe there's only six episodes left to explain the frakkin' huge list of questions and ongoing storylines that remain.
-Where's Cavil and the other Cylons?
-What's the significance of the final Cylon Ellen Tigh and will she return?
-Is Rosalyn going to die from cancer?
-What is Starbuck?
-Is "head Six", the one inside of Baltar's thoughts, going to be explained?
-What of Hera and the opera house dreams?
-Is Natalie going to give birth to Tigh's child?
-How did the final five arrive at the 12 colonies?

fuck I am not going to watch any of the S4 episodes until they are all out
Ellen is coming back next week. My question is how did she resurrect? Do the final 5 have their own fleet and regen ship? Is she on her own or part of Cavil's fleet? They better explain wtf is going on with head Six because she was such a big part of the earlier seasons.

BTW did anyone else notice that Kara's chest seemed to get a lot bigger the past two mutiny episodes? Were they trying to give her a "Lara Croft" look running around the ship with guns blazing? :p

Man, this is my favorite show on TV right now!
I've got to admit that the mid-season break is definately worth it now!!! These episodes are going from strength to strength!
Can't wait to see what happens when Ellen meets up with the rest of the 5...
Also interesting to hear about other models.....Daniel?

Can someone confirm I understand Ander's memories / Ellen's story right?
Thousands of years ago on Kobol, the 12 human tribes created cylons which became the 13th tribe. Something happened on Kobol that caused the 13 tribes to leave (war?), and the 13th tribe (the Cylons), landed on Earth. They originally had the ability to ressurect, but lost that ability after they evolved into procreation.
The Final Five lived on Earth and were scientists trying to re-learn the ability to ressurect, and did so just before Earth was consumed by nuclear war. The ressurected Final Five then travelled through space and found the Cylon Centurions. These Cylon Centurions were not related to the original Cylons of Kobol, but instead were created much later by the 12 colonies. These Centurions asked the Final Five to create humanoid models for them. The Final Five agreed to this on the condition that the Cylon Centurions end their war with the 12 colonies.
The humanoid Cylon models were then created, with model Number 1 (Cavil/John) being jealous of Ellen's love for Number 7 (Daniel) and killed the Final Five and got rid of all the Number 7's. The Final Five ressurected with false memories implanted by Number 1, and he planted them into the societies of the 12 colonies as a form of torment/entertainment.
Is that right?
I think that pretty much sums it up. It's still a giant clusterfuck when you watch it though. Now I can't wait to find out who Daniel is...

Does anyone else feel like the writers are really half-assing it when tying up storylines/loose ends? Like, its good that they conclude them, but it doesn't give you a sense of fulfillment when there isn't a huge impact. A few examples are:
-Making Tyrol's son completely human and handing him off to Hot Dog
-Miscarriage for Caprica/Saul baby (so far not much after effect)
-Mutiny resolved in two episodes, business as usual except with a few more Cylons onboard
-Earth was found to be uninhabitable and they're on the move again
-D'anna (Cylon model 3) decided to stay on Earth by herself in a scene less than 5 minutes
etc, etc, list goes on. They have all these build ups like they're going to be really important issues, but they seem to fall flat in the end. I just hope the series finale impresses.

They even said, revealing Ellen as the final Cylon was pretty much a last-minute thing... so yeah, they don't really have anything pre-defined. For that, you need Babylon 5 - whole 5-year story plotted out in advance, with a defined timeline for a million years into the past and future, makes for a very cohesive show :)

The only thing that I felt was particularly abrupt was Cavil's death. That being said, that scene may be part of what's being extended for the DVD version that wouldn't fit in the 2h runtime. I personally liked the full 2 hours, including the ending. All things considered, out of every piece of criticism that I've seen for the ending so far, I can't say that I've seen a better alternative presented... At the very least, a pretty good ending for the best show on TV since Rome.

bleggh... it was ok
i h8d how they revolved it around that old bag, i just wanted her written out the entire series
i would have liked them to have suggested, at the very least, a group of survivors wanting to keep the technology and going to live somwhere near the Mediterranean (Atlantis)
what was up with Tyrol describing where he was going so much? any lore behind it?
was sweet when he found out the truth about his wife
and yeah the battle didnt last long enough seems like they just wanted to end that as quick as they could

There were parts of the finale I really didn't like. First, remember when Baltar convinced Admiral Adama to arm his cult with rifles? Whatever happened to that? It seems to have been swept under the rug due to time constraints.
Next, Racetrack's dead hand miraculously hitting the nuke release button. Yay deus ex machina! /sarcasm
The Laura Roslin flashbacks with her and the student. WTF. Really, what was the point of it? What did we learn from it? I have absolutely no idea. Also, the Boomer flashback about "owing one to the old man" really bothered me because it was never shown before so they were trying to add a cute bookend to her story that really wasn't established before this ep.
Admiral Adama leaving his son Lee never to see him again. Lee himself even says this is the second time its happened. You'd think the Admiral would want to hold onto what family he has left after Roslin passes.
Finally, not a particular bad point of this episode, but Tory Foster has been the most useless character on the whole show. She could have not existed and it would have been the same, possibly better.
I guess as long as I'm backtracking, the resolution of the Colonel Tigh/Caprica Six with Cylon baby plot was horrible. They clearly started that plot line thinking it would be epic, as they had Virtual Six (who we know is an angel now) predict a child would be conceived in Sharon Agathon's prison cell (and it wasn't Hera). Later they must have figured out it conflicted with the Hera story, and then decided to uneventfully kill off the baby and Caprica Six gets over it rather quickly.

D'Anna stayed on the original Earth as the rest of the fleet along with the cylon baseship left.
Adama was flying his own viper as the last one to leave Galactica. Husker was his call sign and they've mentioned it a couple of times during the seasons.
I'm not a face of Starbuck's ending. I was 70% sure she was an angel that came back to help them but they could have played it out a little better. I was thinking that she was the daughter of #7 aka Daniel.

D'anna Biers stayed behind on the first Earth they found. No real explanation was provided and I thought it was a cop out by the writers to end her story.
The Viper Admiral Adama flies off Galactica for the last time is the fully restored Viper presented to him by Tyrol and the crew as a gift during the miniseries. The nameplate says "Husker" which was his old callsign.

I actually thought that, and the Roslin/Adama ending were good. They were pretty fitting to the characters.
I liked where they were going with that, but it felt really awkward that they showed her actually slipping away and then he kept talking... they should have showed her still alive and smiling at him, cut over to him talking, and THEN gone back to show her dead at the same time he realizes it. And what happens after he sets the Raptor down and buries her? Does he just sit there looking at the view until he falls over from starvation? Does he go off and build the cabin and live there alone for the rest of his life? WTF??
As for Starbuck... maybe I missed something, but I think the single biggest "WTF??" for me with the ending of the show was, WTF was all that about her being the "harbinger of death"? It's repeated in at least three different places in the show, going back to, what, the second season? She will "lead them all to their end"? Well, she sorta did that, but...
What bugs me the most is all the things they spent all that time building up for, and then did nothing with them. They never did explain her burned body in that crashed viper, for example. Lotta stuff about her that was just left hanging for no apparent reason. Very frustrating.

Herald of the Apocalypse, the Harbinger of Death.
The Apocalypse is the recokining, where all sinners are destroyed and all others are brought to the promised land/eden/heaven/whatever. She was the one who put in the jump coordinates, yes?
And didn't her actions eventually lead to the destruction of the Cylons (directly or otherwise)? Harbinger of death indeed.
The relationship between Saul and Caprica basically broke off 'cause she was upset
A) she lost her kid
Ai) that it was because she thought he didn't love her
B) because of ellen

Read that
(On whether any of the Cavils, Simons or Dorals survived the attack on the Colony)
Moore: The final (edit) came out a little less clear on that level than I sort of intended... The idea was that when Racetrack hits the nukes, they smack into the Colony and it takes it out of the stream swirling around the singularity, and it fell in (to the singularity) and was torn apart. But as we were cutting the show for time, and taking out frames, one of the things that became less apparent was that the Colony was doomed. The intention was that everyone aboard the Colony perished.
