Saw that there's a thread for Hiphop and Asian music and all that other stuff but nothing for all the "good stuff" that's played on the Fox (99.3) or on the Zone (91.3).
Post about new tunes, upcoming concerts, indie bands, whatever and whatnot about ROCK :buttrock:

Yeah I love rock as much as I love Hip-hop! Hell I listen to all types of music besides country.
Anyways... anything Billy Talent will guarantee to get you screaming!
I want to see Billy Talent play at the Commodore again. Don't like those big, Plaza of Nations type shows

There's nothing good played on 99.3 CFox, unless you count the Metal Shop on Monday Nights 11PM-12PM. They were blasting new Maiden, Dragonforce and Trivium non stop. Now that's quality radio.

I saw Tool a couple weeks back too. Just godly.
i think some bands over do it though ... people pay more attention to what they wear than to their music

Dragonforce is not bad. They do tend to walk the line between amazing and amazingly cheesy.
Some stuff I've been listening to to lately that I suppose would fit the rock/alt are Wintersleep, Mew, Pride Tiger and New Pornographers

I've always wondered how this show went. I remember when it first happened there were a lot of ppl, including myself, that were a little disappointed. I was expecting more older songs for a 20th anniversary show. Then again, I read that they wanted to use a lot of songs that haven't previous been put on dvd.
That reminds me I haven't seen the when dream and day reunite show dvd yet.

really?
i've only watched one or two episodes of it and it was fairly obvious Lukas was going to take it.
I just didn't think that they'd pick another Canadian to win it. I actually thought it was going to be Toby making the band. It was pretty far off for me to have a girl, even though Delilah was a incredible singer, to front Supernova.

Dragonforce just begs to be laughed at at every turn, but it works in their favour. It's cool but it just sounds silly to be seriously used in a song. I listen to them because they have an asian shredder.
Yeah that Incubus DVD isn't bad, some of the bass work on the old songs are impressive so props to their new bassist. I'm pretty eagerly waiting for their next album to drop in a couple of months.

Steve Vai's coming to town as part of Zappa plays Zappa. That's quite a dilemma for me as I'd absoluetely love to see Vai play (especially after missing his 2005 concert here) but the songs he did for Frank are way to weird for my tastes. But it'll be pretty godly watching him do an extended jam with Dweezil.

um the only possible ones I have on mind is the upcoming Incubus concert and that "Radio Rebellion" concert (Norma Jean/Between the buried and Me/Misery Signals/Fear before the march of flames). Might go to both, may go to neither.
the new MCR album is a touch above their old crap, but that doesn't mean it's any better than "sordidly mediocre". Sorry. However check out "Welcome to the Black Parade" for a pseudo-Bohemian Rhapsody ripoff.

here's the entry on my blog -- Beyond the Rhetoric (http://btr.michaelkwan.com/2006/11/26/three-days-grace-rocks-the-centre.aspx) -- about the show last night.
Opening act was Idle Sons, then Mobile, then Theory of a Deadman, then Three Days Grace. Pretty good value. Total show was like 4 hours, and a pair of near-front row tickets was just a touch over $100.
I got a couple of crappy cameraphone vids in the blog entry (http://btr.michaelkwan.com/2006/11/26/three-days-grace-rocks-the-centre.aspx) if you want to check that out.

there style is different but they both practically preach about the same thing: pain and the like.
My Chemical Romance might be another option. Their old album not the new one. Haven't listened to it yet.
well half the bands out there have some sort of song about pain, being angry or being mad.
there are or were many 'angry' bands out there: staind, puddle of mudd, default, theory of a deadman, nickelback. all very similiar bands with similiar songs.
Trapt
heard these guys on the radio today and it made me remember something
they're a similiar 'style' to Three Days Grace because they're angry and their first single (Headstrong) actually came out around the same time as TDG's first single 'I Hate Everything About You' came out

Can you tell that I'm an Incubus fan hahah.
The opener, Albert Hammond Jr (guitarist from Stokes) was really good. If you like the Strokes, you'd like his stuff too. Very Strokes sounding though, but thats not surprising. I wish they were selling his cd there, I would've picked one up.
Incubus came on and it was solid from start to finish. The only beef that I had was that they didn't play Pardon Me!!! arrrrgh!
Other than that, it was insane. They played everything. Stellar, Make Yourself, Wish You Were Here, Drive, Megalomaniac, Anna Molly and about 5 other new tracks. Even did an acoustic version of New Skin.
Still need to get myself Light Grenades

yeah it was one of the better shows i've been to this year. i didn't think the shins would play that many off of oh inverted.
viva voce doesn't f*ck around. i actually contemplated seeing them last year, but didn't realize they had such a noise-rock sound. kinda wished i checked it out.

that's kind of a close minded statement. is music getting worse? well there's always going to be shitty music in every decade. there are tons of great bands who started in early 2000. maybe you're just not listening to the right bands.
as for how many bands will make the rock and roll hall of fame? well it's kind of too early to tell. most of those band will have only been around 6 years? consideration into RnR Hall of fame is 25 years.

music is so diluted these days ... with all the different genres and such. but there are a lot of good, fresh sounding bands out there. if you're into that kind of stuff. but sadly, most kids out there these days listen to crap.

you mean crap without the c? i dont understand why people would listen to that kinda stuff. i mean its cool if music has good beats and all but lyrics about being all that and being "pimpin." just not my style.

once again, there will always be one hit wonders, hot band of the week, whatever you want to call it. the 80's and 90's had more than their fair share.
longevity is also a tricky way to judge a band. many bands, good or bad won't last 10 years (the police, rage against the machine, nirvana - yea i realize the first 2 are reforming). you can even argue that some of the 10+ years bands, should've hung it up a while ago (metallica).
if anything music is a lot more diverse now due to the fact that its easier to get a hold of music (ipods/downloading/mp3 etc) and you really don't have to stick to listening to the radio. either way, if you're limiting yourself to listening to stuff from the 60s-90s then your missing out on a lot of good music.

it's been almost a week but wow ... Interpol was fan-freaking-tastic. i was waiting to hear C'mere though but what the heck, their set was marvelous. every single song they played was good.

damn, I should've waited for door tickets... or buy it off some people selling at the door for 40 bucks. But fuggit, the gig was f'n A... can't believe how well they played in live. Favorite song of the nite has to be Leif Erikson!
Opening band sucked though, the singer lost her voice after 3 or 4 songs... and the intruments were pretty bad, imo.

what did everyone think of v-fest?
i went monday and the weather was nice out and the bands were rocking. if its your first time seeing some of the bands, they put on great shows. a little short for me though. 45 mintues a band. i personally enjoyed smoosh... hahahahah.
AFI played close to a hour
Killers were slotted to play for about a hour and a half and they ended up playing a little less than a hour but supposedly Brandon was ill

05-22-2007, 02:50 PM
Even though it was a shortened set, we are lucky we got to see The Killers at all. They had to cancel Seattle and LA right before us, and they only played 2 songs in Denver.
Billy Talent and Mariana's Trench was all I really wanted to see, and they were not bad. The rain was horrible.

I thought MCR and rise against both put on a great show. MCR was IMO the best performance, the pyrotechnics and everything else were sick. I will admit I listen to MCR more than the killers so I may be a little biased, but I still thought MCR had the best show. Rise Against kicked ass, what else can I say, I'm a big fan and they did a great job. Billy Talent had a shitty set IMO, I've seen them I think 4 times now and this was the worst one.
yeah, metric did put on a good show. one band that blew me away was mute math. their show was just crazy, probably the most memorable one for me becuase i wasn't expecting it.
