Hardest shit I've heard in a long time and he does it all with no cussing. Loving this dude right now. Everything I've heard from him is an absolute 10/10. Surprised he hasn't blown up yet but the fact that he is technically a Christian artist might have people second guessing. Even if you are not into the whole angry white rapper thing, his flow and word play are phenomenal.

I was at the Alderwood Daiso about a while ago where I heard this song being played there. It was one of those songs that piqued my interest. It stuck in my mind. I don't have perfect pitch, but have training in music, so I memorized the melody and wrote the notes down. I asked the workers there what the song was called. Nobody knew. I kept hearing "mugi" in the lyrics, which translated from Japanese to English is "barley." So I've been looking for hints and clues. I found out that this song was written for a Japanese mini drama (asa dora - morning drama) called Massa. It's about this Japanese dude who's life goal was to grow barley in Japan and distill a true Japanese based whiskey. He leaves his home behind and travels to Scotland to learn the secrets of Whiskey. While there, he meets this Scottish girl, brings her back to Japan, and marries her. They, especially her, go through some really tough times. Multiple failures and drawbacks. A lesson in perseverance.
Anyway, here's the song. Quite catchy.

Love the bagpipes in the background.
Kayo Kyoku Plus: Miyuki Nakajima -- Mugi no Uta????? (http://kayokyokuplus.blogspot.ca/2018/01/miyuki-nakajima-mugi-no-uta.html)
I watched some of the asadora episodes. Probably dramatized to the hilt, but next time you have a lick of Suntory whiskey, here's where it all started. Some Scots probably wish they never helped this guy out. Japanese whiskey in competitions have beat out those made in Scotland. One of those, "Who's laughing now," stories.

No, but went to listen to some of the people who played in the horn section. Vancouver was a hot bed for cool, hip bands. Chilliwack, Headpins, Powder Blues, Seeds of Time, etc. Bryan Adams........... kind of. Anyway, I'm searching high and low for a pristine copy of the Armageddon LP.

Not sure if I uploaded this or not. I love most things Vivaldi. Especially the opera arias.
And, Roberta Invernizzi is amazing.
I spent many a nights at Sedgewick Library listening stations, listening to the Classics. In particular, music from the Baroque Period. From the days I studied music at UBC.
Switched it up a bit...............
Giving the headphones a workout, lol. The video below is not the version I am listening to, btw.

Based on 24 secular poems from a collection of 254 11th to 13th century works, Carl Orff created this masterpiece about drinking, gambling, lust, etc. O Fortuna is the most recognized song, but the other songs/stories are just as good. In the Tavern is one of my favourites. You have to hear the entire hour long cantata to appreciate this weird but wonderful piece of music.
As for the music itself, Orff really challenges the voices. A very dynamic piece.

I recall when I was music director of a local marching band. This older gent, who was one of the sponsors, came up to me and asked if we could play "Stormy Weather." I never heard of the song back then. I looked at the score and immediately told him it wasn't gonna work. He then started to get pissed off. Why? What not? I was a respectful young lad back then, so basically walked away after telling him it was not in the cards. LOL.

Just picked up the vinyl version of this album (Amazon.ca). Simply awesome recording. It's late, so I'm listening to it via headphones using a Cambridge Audio Duo, phono stage with headphone out. "Ain't No Cure," never sounded so good.

A great Canadian musician. I went to see him at the Commodore Ballroom every chance I got. He made it a point to come play at the Commodore (perfect venue). To hear his band live was a treat. The horn section was always tight. Dude was just an amazing person. Funny as all hell. RIP, to one of the greatest musicians.

Dynamics are amazing. Purchased the vinyl record from Funky Moose Records, a Canadian company out of Bellevue, Saskatchewan.

So many awesome cuts on this album. Not the best engineered recordings, but the performance is second to none. I really enjoy listening to this a cappella rendition of, "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square." Analog vinyl recording, so much gooder.

Absolutely insane that TOOL has a new album coming out. Most likely the most positive comment section on any YT post. Even more insane for them to release all their music on streaming platforms for the first time, and to show how relevant they still are and how big their fan base is, all of there past albums charted in the Top 20 on the Billboard. Crazy. They truly are a once-in-a-lifetime band.

lyrics.........
You talk like Marlene Dietrich
And you dance like Zizi Jeanmaire
Your clothes are all made by Balmain
And there's diamonds and pearls in your hair, yes there are
You live in a fancy apartment
Off the Boulevard St. Michel
Where you keep your Rolling Stones records
And a friend of Sacha Distel, yes you do
But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes I do
I've seen all your qualifications
You got from the Sorbonne
And the painting you stole from Picasso
Your loveliness goes on and on, yes it does
When you go on your summer vacation
You go to Juan-les-Pines
With your carefully designed topless swimsuit
You get an even suntan, on your back and on your legs
When the snow falls you're found in St. Moritz
With the others of the jet-set
And you sip your Napoleon Brandy
But you never get your lips wet, no you don't
But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes I do
Your name is heard in high places
You know the Aga Khan
He sent you a racehorse for chistmas
And you keep it just for fun, for a laugh haha
They say that when you get married
It'll be to a millionaire
But they don't realize where you came from
And I wonder if they really care, or give a damn
But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes I do
I remember the back streets of Naples
Two children begging in rags
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly born tags, yes they try
So look into my face Marie-Claire
And remember just who you are
Then go and forget me forever
'Cause I know you still bear
the scar, deep inside, yes you do
I know where you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
I know the thoughts that surround you
'Cause I can look inside your head

The lyrics........
I don't know why I love you but I do
I don't know why I cry so but I do
I only know I'm lonely and that I want you only
I don't know why I love you but I do
I can't sleep nights because I feel so restless
I don't know what to do, I feel so helpless
And since you've been away, I cry both night and day
I don't know why I love you but I do
My days have been so lonely
My nights have been so blue
I don't know how I manage, but I do
Each night I sit alone and tell myself
That I will fall in love with someone else
Guess I'm wastin' time but I've got to clear my mind
I don't know why I love you but I do
More from the "Frog.".............. now you know why he's called, the frogman, lol.

The first time I heard this song was when I watched a Japanese asadora (morning drama) series called, "Teppan." A story of a girl who's mother passes away and she ends up meeting her grandmother. Grandmother used to own a very successful restaurant that served okonomiyaki as its specialty. It closed down years ago for an unknown reason. Girl is fascinated by the restaurant and ends up wanting to open it up again. The main reason grandmother closed the shop down was due to the girl's mother running off or something like that. After watching the series, I started my quest for the best tasting Osaka style, Okonomiyaki this side of the Pacific, lol. Anyway, the song haunted me until I found versions of it on youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFU2iTR13Q0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSLVIHuysNs
I stopped watching asadora. Of the very few asadora on NHK I've watched, I particularly liked, Massan, the one about the first Japanese person, Masataka Taketsuru, to make whiskey in Japan. The drama was a fictionalized tale of the struggles dude encountered while studying in Scotland in the late 1800's. He married a local girl, which made his struggles that much more interesting (bringing a caucasian woman back to Japan as a bride in those days was unheard of). It was the first asadora to feature a caucasian actress. It had a catchy theme song as well. Mugi no Uta (Song of Barley).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masataka_Taketsuru
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSsGY_mLjwI&list=PL5cX357Bj4eFeR9QBgVZUGC2416PX8DPL
Another asadora I watched from beginning to end was one about the wife of the famous Japanese cartoonist, Shigeru Mizuki, the creator of Gegege no Kitaro.
Theme song from that is quite catchy. Arigatou by Ikimono Gakari. Lead singer is too cute.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCl10o9bVm0
Ever since my mother passed away, I stopped watching/recording them. Man, recording taiga drama, asadora, and sumo tournaments for her on the DVD recorder and bringing it over to her everyday was a challenge. I went through hundreds of blank DVD's. If it weren't for her love for TV Japan, I wouldn't know any of this. Good thing most of the programs had English subtitles.

Brings back so many fine memories. College days. Toga parties and loose women. Something about this song makes people want to sing along and women go topless..................and we're not talking Quaker Women protesting, gulolol (look it up).
Too much partying resulted in academic probation (UBC) that eventually led me to going back to college. Fun times. Only young once..........

Been hearing the cowboy version of "Fast Car" quite a bit these days. I'm not a huge country music fan, but everytime I hear it, it makes me want to hear the original. So much better...... warmer, genuine, etc.
I broke down and purchased a CD. Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman. I've been hearing that the rest of the album the song is on is pretty damn good. It arrived today (Amazon.ca). Wow........... the whole CD is amazing. I lucked out as this CD is the one produced in Germany. The best recording of the album. Sound that rivals the vinyl recording in warmth and detail.

I found an SACD recording of Time Out - very nice (DSD Multi 2.8 MHz/1bit). Also have two versions on vinyl. I would love to get my hands on the Columbia Stereo 6 eye version. Nearly impossible to get in new to good condition.

Such a powerful song. The lyrics, the instrumentation, the angelic voices.

Went into Audiopile Records on the Drive this afternoon. Saw something I loved listening to in my younger days. It's a 60th Anniversary reissue on vinyl. Damn. This live performance is amazing. Better than the studio recording. Imma gonna make this here my ringtone.

Two white guys and two black dudes making music together............ back in them days = pure gold. White folk in the audience trying to groove to the music, ijbol.
Raye - This Music May Contain Hope.
Streaming only, but I have the vinyl record on pre-order.
I was getting into Laufey for a while, then got tired of her. Now Raye is my latest interest. Nice combination of genres. Not everybody's cup of tea, but whatever................... "Where the Hell is my Husband," gulolololol.

^Are you going to her concert in Vancouver on Thursday?
I like Raye's vocals - for some reason she kinda reminds me of Amy Winehouse. Sometimes I put her live performances as background music when I work or do chores around the house.
Nope. I'm not a concert goer.
Listen from the comfort of my home or car.
Yes, Amy Winehouse and a few other powerful female vocalists. Mezzo-Soprano with a three and a bit octave range. Belts it out with lots of control unlike screamers like Celine Dion. I can see her singing the anthem at a sporting event and wowing everybody. The intro to this album is crazy............ her spoken voice. Dang.

If you are interested in the album, which is very cool, btw, you can call Neptoon Records. Their shipment got delayed and will arrive this week or next. Prices on Discogs are quite high, meaning it's either sold out or very very popular. Even the CD's are sold out, locally. The delayed shipment at Neptoon Records is a blessing as none of the local stores have any stock. You can reserve a copy today. They have 30 on the way. I didn't realize how popular this album is. I got it simply for the cover. The little cutout at the top right is a window that exposes the inner sleeve. I believe the vinyl itself is yellow/orange in colour. Anyway................
You can hear her stuff on Apple Music and other streaming services. Once in a while, playing a record is so satisfying.

WTF? It's not uncommon, these days...........my copy is arriving tomorrow. At least I was told that. Not sure which version, but I can always say, "No thanks."

I went to her concert last week and she was excellent.
I don't think there are other vinyl versions besides first release right now, but I guess you can say it's a collectible. I believe the differences are fairly minor anyway.
