There's bound to be a bunch of you guys with PSPs out there so I decided to start a thread, hehe.

So yeah, anyone try Tekken: Dark Resurrection? It's awesome, bought the import version, and worth every penny. Graphics are awesome, load times are fast, etc.

New Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories is also looking pretty slick, tried it out for half an hour. Got to wait until I get a 2GB stick so I can play the ripped version of it (only the dummy files are ripped, so the .ISO is 1GB)

Anyone know what that new Devhook + VSHEX thing is? I'm still using Devhook 0.46 and it seems to be working totally fine, haha.

i have no idea what the vshex thing is but theres a firmware now thats modded, where u can upgrade to 2.71, have all the ablilites of 1.50 [and still be able to downgrade to that if u want to], and run iso's without a umd in teh drive.

i think it's called "2.71 se-b2"

btw : ace combat x is teh winz. well if u like hte ace combat games. and i have yet to find a good racing game on the psp, it seems that GT mobile is never going to come out with the development of GT HD... :(

Razor Ramon HG

Oh yeah, but the compatibility currently isn't very good, so I'm sticking with Devhook atm.

Ace Combat seems pretty good, how big is it when compressed?

Ridge Racer seems like a pretty good racer. Burnout Legends is an old one, but still loads of fun to play, haha.

i think i have dh 0.47 something

tekken ftw

initial d is obviously pretty fun too :p

capcom classics reloaded gives you knights of the round, sf2, sf2 hyper fighting, gunsmoke, etc.

I bought the game yesterday and it kept freezing my psp (over 5 minutes of dark screen like it's loading) 3 times in a row after the 3rd mission.

I mean I could return to the home loading screen but it didn't appear anything was happening to the game.
Gonna go back to best buy and get another one. hopefully that's the problem.
My other games work fine.

gad.. i'm pretty out of the psp game right now. last game i played was that DBZ fighting game, seems to be many many new developments now.

so for example with the new devhook progs.. would i be able to just go into a store pickup a psp and downgrade or watever to get it to play games?

^no. the new motherboard has not been hacked yet. and i think the highest firmware that can be downgraded is 2.6 or 2.71 or something

DragonChi

ridge racer was fun, until i found when i choose the long drifting car could drift in the opposite direction and still take the corner...

Not really, you can now play .ISOs on a 2.71 PSP though. I'll get more info.

Try this guys to run .ISOs on a 2.71FW PSP.

Basically, it emulates 1.50FW allowing you to load Devhook and your .ISOs.

http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/821 - Zephyrus' Complete HEN C Package - HEN stands for Homebrew Enabler, and C is the third revision.

Zephyrus' Complete HEN C Package contents:
--------------------------------

- Homebrew Enabler for 2.71 revision C

- DevHook launcher (by Booster) ported to 2.71
by Dark_AleX (v2 with 2.71 flash support)

- Firmware 1.50 JAP Dump

Instructions
------------

- Copy all contents inside MS_ROOT to the root of your memory stick.
- Go to the PHOTO viewer of the XMB and enter in the folder "HENC".
- If your PSP freezes, reboot your PSP and try again. This is due to
the instabability of the tiff and it'll only be executed at times.
It'll be improved in the near future by Dark_AleX.

- A blue screen will appear the first time you run this program, and
after that, you'll either see:

1) Red: The files couldn't be written to the flash, keep trying.

2) Green: The files were written successfully. The XMB will reboot
shortly. You can now run homebrew in the format prepared
for 2.71. (details below).

- As previously mentioned, the patch will remain resident in memory.
The patch will not be removed, even in sleep mode. Only a hardware
reset will remove the program from memory.

- When you do a hardware reset, you'll have to run the tiff again.
The difference this time is, there won't be a green or red screen
since there's no longer a need to write to flash.

(again, due to the instabability of the tiff, it'll either get
stucked on the blue screen and turns off, or the XMB will reboot
itself shortly after the blue screen.)

If it get stucked, just run the tiff again, and keep trying until
it reboots by itself after the blue screen.

- After you've completed the above steps, you can delete the following
files from the root of your memory stick as they are only needed the
first time this program is executed: pspbtknf.txt, pspbtknf_game.txt,
pspbtknf_updater, and systemctrl.prx. However, don't delete patch.bin,
h.bin and the folder with the tiff, since you will need those the next
time you do a hard reset, so that you can run the patch again.

- Once the patch has been executed, it is independant on the memory stick
contents, so, you can freely swap memory sticks until you have to run
the patch again due to a hard-reset.

- After you've completed the steps above, it's time for you to run the
wonderful 2.71 DevHook port by Dark_AleX. Run the pbp with the title
"DEVHOOK0.4X launcher for 2.71". DO NOT adjust any of the options in
the DevHook menu as it has already been adjusted accordingly. You may
go to "UMD SELECT" in the DevHook menu to choose your ISO/CSO.

- The 1.50 DevHook launcher is also included, so that you can launch it
when you emulate 1.50 (only for people who knows what they are doing).
If you really know what you're doing, you may emulate firmware 1.50 on
your 2.71 by selecting 1.50 from the "FIRMWARE" option in the DevHook
menu. But you'll have to adjust the settings like these:

UMD SELECT > UMD Disc
FIRMWARE > 1.50
CPU CLOCK > 333MHz /166MHz
BOOT SELECT > reboot XMB

OTHER MENU > UMD SFO VERSION > 2.xx to 2.00

Whereas the regular setting for playing ISO/CSO on 2.71 is:

UMD SELECT > YOURGAME.ISO/.CSO > Image+ANYUMD
FIRMWARE > 2.71(flash)
CPU CLOCK > 333MHz /166MHz
BOOT SELECT > reboot XMB

OTHER MENU > UMD SFO VERSION > 2.xx to 2.00

Package Notes
-------------

I've removed the sample files included in the HEN_C by Dark_AleX, as
they are unneccessary for the DevHook port to run. They were included
as sample files for testing, which are pretty useless, at least to me.

In /docs/ directory, I've included the original README files from
original file packages provided by Dark_AleX for the HENB2 and the
the DevHook launcher port for 2.71. You may refer to them if the
instructions in this README file is not clear enough.

The 2.71 > 1.50 emulation is only recommended for advanced users who
knows what they're doing as the emulated 1.50 can run normal homebrews
as if it's a fw1.50, but it may cause errors for some as well. Please
note that the included DevHook 0.45 launcher for 1.5 in this package
is only for you to emulate firmware 2.XX like 2.00, 2.50 or 2.60..

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO EMULATE 1.50 THEN EMULATE 2.71 TO RUN ISO/CSOS.
JUST FOLLOW THE STEPS ABOVE TO RUN ISO/CSO ON YOUR 2.71.

I've also included "X5 Anniversary" Web Portal and some Anime Wallpapers
for you to use in this package. So, have fun with this easy-package! ^^

*I haven't figured out how kernel homebrew works on the new HEN_C,
but HEN_C is still included in this package so that everyone gets
the latest HEN_C bugfixes and stuff. Since this is a noob-friendly
package, I'll not include the sample files, or the checkworks file
from the HEN_C package as they requires users to have acquired an
certain amount of skills to be able to understand and use them.

If you're a experienced user and downloaded this package for
usage-ease, you must download the HEN_C release file seperately
in order to get the files you want because I've only taken out
the crucial files of the HEN_C and not those unnecessary files.

[ This packaged was compiled by Zephyrus on 30th September. ]
[ Please do not hesitate to EMAIL me if you encounter any ]
[ problems. [contactable via email: szehan80@hotmail.com] ]
[ PLEASE DO NOT ADD ME ON MSN BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO HAVE ]
[ MY MSN ACCOUNT FLOODED WITH PSP NEWBIES AND NOOBS... THX ]

All files included in this package are not created by me, credits
to Dark_AleX for the Homebrew Enabler for 2.71 revision C (HEN_C)
and DevHook launcher port for 2.71. The firmware 1.5 jap. dump
was dumped by me on my pure 1.5 jap. set (PSP-1000). Laters..

Kudos to everyone who helped in making everything possible on 2.71!

http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/806 - eLoader v0.9.9 - Lets you run homebrews on PSPs with 2.50 to 2.71FW with limited kernal access.

Here's a USA dump of the 1.50FW instead of the one supplied in the pack, which is JAP - http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/8 Basically extract it in the DH -> 150 folder (NOT THE 150F).

hey that sounds better than the old method.. where you had to use a 2.5+ AND a 1.5 psp to downgrade... did that ever work for anyone tho?

Razor Ramon HG
11-03-2006, 06:48 PM
Yeah, you just need to make sure you don't have a TA-082 motherboard on your PSP.

All you needed was GTA:LCS UMD + 1.5FW dump + the downgrader program I think.

just curious, when I use my PSP to surf the internet. A lot of the times, it won't load the page saying there is "insufficent memory". Does this mean internal memory or the size of my memory card? I just bought a 4 GB memory card, will this solve my problem?

jlo mein

I didn't really like Tekken for PSP, all I found cool was the full CGI cutscenes.

The BEST game I'm playing on PSP right now is Star Trek Tactical Assault. If you are a trek fan, you have to check it out.

I tried Initial D but gave up after I spent 10 minutes trying to get into a race but could not, no matter what buttons I pressed. Stupid japanese game lol...

Just finished Medal of Honor and it was fun while it lasted, however it is a very short game. The campaign does have a distinctly "multiplayer with AI bots" feel to it, with the maps all being designed for MP, and the mission objectives being rather MP-ish (like capture the flag, etc).

The cache is only up to like 2MB I think, so that's why the browser sucks at the moment, plus it's dead slow.

I think so, because you convert them to MP4 I think? I haven't watched videos since like a year ago, haha.

Does anyone locally know where to get replacement PSP faceplates? I accidently scratched my PSP's screen while trying to remove some scratches, haha, or know anywhere to get one of those scratch removal solutions?

A camera and GPS attachment were first announced for the PSP in March 2006. More details are set to be released during Tokyo Game Show 2006.

The GPS receiver will feature support for GPS-enabled games such as a projected re-release or update of Hot Shot Golf, as well in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. The GPS is set to be priced around ¥6,000, appx. $54 USD.

The “Chotto Shot” (Quick Shot) camera add-on will support a new video and VoIP chat service, as well as photo taking. Both the camera and service are slated for release in Japan in December 2006 for around ¥5,000, appx. $44 USD

On another note, if anyone needs their PSP downgraded to 1.5, give me a PM. The PSP must not be TA-082 though.

but havent found a good RPG game to stick with yet

any suggestions?

Razor Ramon HG

I don't think there's any RPGs really for the PSP, most of them are action games.

I really hope they make an online game where you connect to like a server and play with everyone else through Infrastructure mode. An MMORPG for the PSP, oh that'd be killer.

Have you tried both GTA games, pretty fun, I put in like 10 hours in LCS, done like 1/3 of the game already, excellent storyline.

Oh yeah, note for newcomers.

DO NOT COMPRESS GAMES LIKE OUTRUN, AND GTA. BASICALLY GAMES THAT STREAM DATA AS THE GAME PROGRESSES BECAUSE YOU WILL SEE SLIGHT LAGS AND SKIPS

That statement is completely wrong. There are indeed RPGs for the PSP. Games like Valkyrie Profile, Blade Dancer, Spectral Souls, Popolocrois, Astonishia Story, etc. Many more are on the way as well. (btw I am not an RPG fan)

I am looking forward to the GPS unit...should be interesting.

Can't wait for FF!

And supposedly, FF7 runs pretty well except for some frame rate issues on the PSP. Freaking killer!

Too bad Square Enix is too dumb to realize that if they made a FF7 remake for the PSP/PS3, they'd be making so much money.

On another note, I bought a 4GB MSPD today from NCIX for 157 tax in. Worth every penny, and now I can fit 4x the amount of data (use to have a 1GB)

Frick, how do you guys put videos on your PSP?

I use to get the hang of it, but I can't seem to get my episodes of Entourage showing on the PSP. I've tried PSPVideo9 and WinAVI. WinAVI encoded ones don't even show up in the PSP and the PSPVideo9 ones are either incompatible data or unsupported data when I goto the videos folder (I tried both 1.50/2.71FW)

^

Yes, PSP has two modes; Infrastructure and Ad-Hoc

Infrastructure (if the game provides it) lets you play the game online using Wi-Fi.

Ad-Hoc lets you link multiple psp together.

In order to use Infrastructure or Ad-Hoc, you have to turn the switch on the left side of your psp "up".

When your not using it, I suggest you turn it off, save some battery life. =)

Video converted for iPod from WinAVI MP4 converter if select Ipod at 320x240, it will not work on PSP even if you change the name to be correct name for PSP.

Get Devhook 0.46 and delete that shitty UMD Emulator.

Then once you install DH, get the 2.71 firmware decrypted files and paste them in the right folders.

Then copy your games to the ISO folder and load up DH. Select your ISO under UMD select, and click start. Make sure you have a UMD inside the PSP as well.

I was playing it last night.

Controls when you're on foot sucks, but then the PSP's analog nub is on the left side.

For anyone on 3.71 firmware, here's a bunch of themes for you guys to use.

can't believe there is almost no activity at all in this thread. there are so many great games for psp right now. any of you guys playing these?

castlevania dracula
sega rally revo
FF7 crisis core (japanese only, there is english/chinese/korean patches available)

Razor Ramon HG

I'll just play Crisis Core when it's out in NA.

Friend already has it pre-ordered at EB.

Castlevania was bad IMO. The ones on DS were much better.

But guess what? Simpsons and Silent Hill is out today, shit son!

Alright. So, heres a question from a PSP n00b.

I have a ver 1.5 firmware that I've asked about previously. I just want to get a clear and explicit response:

If I upgrade past 1.5 what will I lose out on and what will I gain? I know I currently don't have the ability to use WiFi right now but can that be enabled under 1.5?
Also, do they build a UMD emu for 1.5 so I can run PSP isos?

The reason I'm asking here is because I've looked on other forums and based on some of the things I've read I'm convinced that most people are morons. Can anyone throw me a bone?

Upgrade to 3.52 M33 and then to 3.71 M33 custom firmware.

Tada!

honda_h2o
11-10-2007, 09:59 AM
yeah Sega Rally Revo is not too bad but it doesn't really keep my interest of the game.

Castlevania ....god man im at chapter 3 and this game really lacks in health, I die so freakin often.

trying out SWAT right now, its alright.

Manhunt 2 is has good graphics and same gameplay to manhunt 1. But the idea of murdering other ppl doesn't appeal to me all that much.

Most sources on the internet are pretty trustful esp. the first couple of sites on Google.

I dug a little deeper and found this thread:

from someone just as n00b as me. It leads to here:

which is a custom cross-grader.

When I feel adventurous and have a little time I'll dive into it.

no, why would you?

if you bought a gamecube, should you get a gameboy advance as well?

if you bought a wii, would you bother getting a ds?

the ps3 and psp connectivity is very limited and pointless at the moment, unless you willing to pay for ps1 games on PSN and transfer them to your psp, then go ahead

the psp is a portable console, its completely different than the ps3, and somewhat different than the ps2...

just updated the firmware, at 3.80 now, the internet radio function is pretty cool.

where do u guys buy your case's. extra batteries and such?

i got my psp slim just at beginning of dec...

i also got the white slim with star wars game.... that game is a piece of shit.. not as great as i expected.....

even playing online was shitty.. so thank god you lost it..

do yourself a favour, dont update your firmware any further....... just in case they found a new custom firmware that can update the psp without the need of pandora's battery....

there is limited amount of cases and battery support for the psp slim at the moment, the jewel cases were meant for the old psp so expect it to wiggle inside the case.. go either futureshop or the honger stores....

all i bought was th black pouch with the white strap that sony officially sells..im confident enough not to scratch the screen, so didnt bother with the hori screen protector..

rb6: vegas for psp is soo shitty, i heard wrc rally is not bad

get syphon filter logan's shadow and socom 2, their good for online play.. and get metal gear portable ops...

other than that, im gonna get a custom firmware on my psp soon, so i can play emulations and stuff on it..

Hey a co-worker of mine got a psp and lent it to me to get it hack, etc. I went to crystal and got the firmware updated to 3.71 or something and I'm not too sure how to get the games installed onto the psp. I've got the game downloaded off bittorrent and extracted the .iso file. I've typed online and found a bunch of stuff that doesn't seem to help. One said to download this UMDGen program another is said to just put the iso file on the psp.

What the heck do I do?

So all of my homebrew emus don't work but I think I have to move them to the Game150 folder, right?

I'm on FW 3.80M33

im having the same problem with emulators like gbasp and the snes emus.. i cant get it to work

i had no problem when i had the oe firmwares but i couldnt run the psp iso files at all.. and then i upgraded it to the m33s, i had no problem running the iso files but every single emulators, i cant run, from the neo geo, csps2 and now snes and the gba, it can read the files, it just says it cant run the game

i drag it to the game or the game150 folders and i cant get it to work..

and ewong, check exactly what firmware you have on ur psp, if u are indeed running on a 3.71 firmware, then ur running an official sony firmware and u cant run any iso or emus...

thats about it. Someone told me a hacked psp has x.xx on it?
I'm guessing the games are ISO.

dub.g
04-20-2008, 12:03 PM
3.17

that means you have an official sony firmware and you cant play homebrew, emus and iso games

i hav 3.90 m33-2 running on my psp.. in some cases you need to run a higher custom/hacked firmware to play newer games, like god of war and crisis core..

if you dont know anyone with a pandora battery and a hacked memory stick to downgrade and upload a custom firmware on ur psp, just look up craiglist.. i got some kid to do it for me for $10.....

most stores at honger malls charge $25 to get it done...

Thanks, and are ISO games huge? Cause I downloaded Metal of Honor 2 and extracted it. It was like 1.2 gigs. Where i downloaded street fighter alpha max 3, It was a CSO file and was only like 40k mb. Anyway I could make the file smaller without screwing the game up?

threezero
04-20-2008, 04:30 PM
U can use a program than compress ISO into CSO and Some CSO files may have certain parts like backgrd music some cutscene rip out to make it smaller size. If you use mac google Prometeus Pro. If you use window just google for PSP iso compressor or the likes.
