At sport central gym in richmond, what is the weight room like anway?

does it have alot of space and alot of equipment and machines?


Also, how much is if you don't sign a contract and pay monthly?

they have quite a bit of machines, as for free weights they have two mini sections, highest weight is 120lbs for DB. They have 3 squat racks, 3 BB flat bench, 2 BB incline press, 1 BB decline, 1 smith, and 1 cable cross machine.

yeah it's a very nice gym. nothing there is ghetto, most of the stuff there is pretty much new. and yeah, it's clean and tidy

you should check on there prices every couple weeks cause they have different pricing every so often. i waited like a month and now i pay like $35/month on zero contract. their drop-in price is $20? per visit i think. but like every other gym they offer guest pass. so get one of those b4 first.

They have a 130lb DB, and the only thing I don't like about the gym is the durian smell when you enter the gym part of it, I'm guessing it's the cleaning supplies.

They have a contract now where you pay $399 first year, $299 second year, and $199 third year and then the cycle repeats. So fourth year would be $399 again.

DB's and free weights are constantly loose. they never tighten their shit.

and honestly, it feels soo dirty in there.
it smells like shit all the time because they don't have proper ventilation.
nasty smell.
but if you're going to work out it's decent. hella busy after 7pm-12am.
either go in the morning or afternoon. otherwise the free weight section will be PACKED.

if you want luxury, go to steve nash gym.. but they close at 11pm. kinda gay.. sport central is 24hours +. so ymmv

when you go, just leave your SC card with the staff and they will give you a key lock for free. they cut locks off lockers ONCE a month if you do not rent one from them. so take ur chances. i think they do the locker check at the end of every month, so i guess you can use it for 3 weeks in the beg. without having the risk of your lock getting cut.

yeah i admit it's pretty dirty compared to the other gyms ive been to but whatever.
what u talkign about ventilation? they have a garage door open with a huge ass fan which if it's off you can just go switch it on.

yeah i admit sometimes it's a bit smelly but that's from the manure and whatever other farm or home depot or some shit that gets blown by the wind towards the gym. the whole area behind the gym smells like that.

it's not that packed after dinner till midnight man. i think the busiest time is 4pm-9pm? maybe even 10 or 1030.

the worst i've ever had to wait was on a chest day, and they ran outta benches, but i only had to wait a total of like 15min over my entire 1 hour workout so that's not bad for peak hours. have u been to fitnessworld at peakhours? you have to wait for EVERYTHING. turns your 1 hour workout into like a 1.5 hour workout, it's bs.

ok guys, it's not THAT dirty, c'mon you workout and u sweat and then you go take a shower, it's not like there are pieces of shit laying around... they open the garage door and the wind carries in dust/dirt etc... it's bound to happen and the nammer cleaning guy is there 5 days a week cleaning.


If you're saying it's PACKED than obviously you've been to some really big high end gyms. It's not as bad as you guys are explaining it to be, it's actually quite roomy and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for an exercise, 90% of the time I never have to wait and I go at prime time 4pm-8pm ish...


SC is good for the price, it's big and has equipment that you need... Fitness world's dumbells only go up to 100, SC has 130 (trust me it's a big difference)...


The bad thing about this gym is that they fail to replace/repair broken machines in an efficient manner, there are many machines that still do not have the grips replaced and pins have gone missing.

Another thing is there are not enough plates of the smaller weights 35,25,10,5,2.5.. ( I think there's only 2 plates of 35's in that gym for real) and you'll have to walk from one corner of the gym to another just to find it, if you find it that is....

The heat in the gym in the summer is too crazy for me, when i'm on the treadmill I honestly feel like i'm going to faint, I can't breathe well in the heat. There is no AC, they open a garage door and use a HUGE fan to blow air to try to ventilate but it fails to cool me down since its only blowing hot air at me.

Ya, elipticals are usually fine, but the treadmills on the other hand are going out of service weekly and they're the ones right infront of the TV, I guess because they're used more frequently.

Looks like 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is opening up classes at Sport Central

Don't know about prices yet but I'm definitely interested to see if those of us that already have gym memberships will get a good deal on it.

The guy at the front desk doing the graveyard shift last night (er...or this morning - depends how you look at it :p) said it should be $80/month if you sign a 1 year contract.

I'm going to assume they do it like how SC does it where they charge you monthly. Depends though cause I know Dynamic wanted all the money up front.

benches are ripped and stinks as if some dirty freak that hasnt bathed in 3 months been using it. In reality i wouldnt be surprised if the benches weren't wiped down on a daily basis. Even if they were its not clean.
-Some free weights are in horrible shape as if they've been dropped a billion times from members who simply DONT give a fuck. They're loose and dangerous.

Frankly i wouldnt even go to the gym even if they offered free membership, I wouldnt want to put my entire company through this mess just to save a couple bucks. Unless they brought up the hygiene level at least on par with steve nash / fw/ golds gym etc. Then i'd consider going to sport central if membership was half the price of my current company membership.

The equipment there is simply too old and worn out.

This was from my own and my companies observation during summer 2009.

Frankly (the cleanliness) kept me from opening a company membership there.

Ill revisit sport Central in April again, and we'll see if conditions are better.
