So my friend and I finally went paintballing the other day, and I gotta say. It's something I think I'm willing to cough up some money for a starter's kit, so I don't have to use the off centered guns that the paintball place has for rent.

Anyways I'm just wondering if the starter kit from walmart is one worth buying or should I consider another one I found on ebay?

as for a starter gun, i would recomend a Smart parts ION, u should be able to get a full setup for under 500$ including tank and mask

i would recommend a tippman x7, or A4 or A5, 98 and 98 custom.. or you could get a kingman VS series, MR series.

I was at the paintball store in richmond at aberdeen centre yesterday. At first the guy told me about the starter package they had for sale. It was the Spyder VS1 starter package with the 12 oz co2 tank, mask and standard loader. The package was about $200 before tax

I was tempted to get that package, but then the guy tried to sell me one of the BT-4 guns freak. He wanted to sell me either the BT-4 Banshee or Iron Horse with silencer, scope and lazer for $500 hahaha.

i just bought a vs3 marker, all the VS series marker are great for beginners..... vs1 starter package for 200$ before taxes is pretty decent since the gun itself its about 170$ and a co2 tank costs about 20-30$ and a mask 40-60$ so ur actually saving alot buying that package than buying seperately.

btw of all the local paintball fields in vancouver, which one you guys best recommend? I've been looking at the most popular one Tsawwassen, but I have no idea wut guns they use and I heard they don't shoot straight at all.

Tsawwassen is the best field imo, very professionaly run, very fun to play at, and i really like the setup they have there

for gun owners, the best field is Tactical, which is only open on saturdays, and for gun owners only, it's also in Tsawwassen

i love using the ego for woodsball, mainly because when i'm stuck in a bad position or i know i can assault and use my position as an advantage, there's nothin like lighting up a group of 4+ guys behind a tree/bunker with 20bps :D :D

yeah if your ganna ramp wit max rate of fire dont lol. cap it at 15 or 20bps or else its ganna be messy and alot of ball breaks hhaha i tried it. yeah running uncapped wit a halo to feed 35bps is a BIG PAINT BILL... especially for speedball lol

don't buy walmart/cdn tire, those guns don't shoot any straighter or efficient.

IF i were you (and if you don't want to buy an ion), just but a Tippman 98 barrel, and bring it to any rental place, and just swap the barrely everytime you play.

The only reason that rentals sometimes don't shoot straight is because their barrels are dirty and abused.

Your wasting your money if you buy a starter kit. you might as we light your 20's on fire, that'd be more fun.

I play IPL, and next season hopefully MXL... now ex-girlfriend has an airball field and a big bushball field on her property. Speedball is expensive, but it helps having sponsors paying almost cost for everything...

even with that, last season i dropped 5-6g's into paintball.

i got a A-5 RT for sale with riser and red dot scope and 300 round hopper.

My 1st gun is a Tippmann A-5 and i love that thing to death i've had it for 3 years and it has served me very well never had to visit a tech booth during games, and if you drop it or scratch it you won't cry about it. I also picked up a 2010 PMR for christmas with a free rotor and that's my main gun now even though i'll never get rid of my A-5 i still use it to warm up for a few games before going to my PMR.

if there's anything i learned from when i was first starting my kit. I would'v egone with a good mask Like any JT spectra lense. they never fog. it doesn't matter how good your gun is if you can't see cuz you're lense is fogging up. also i would completely skip the Co2 tank and just save up for an air tank even a steely will do. why? because if all you need is a tank most fields will let you borrow an air tank for free or in exchange for ID instead of using CO2 with your gun. and 3 save up for a mid range gun anything above 200 brand new will do a-5,x-7,G4,PMR,etek,don't buy a mini.

+1 for Tippmann A5s. They're very customizable and a great all around gun for beginners and pros alike.

Yeah A5's are very good beginner guns and have the cyclone feed installed already. Other great choices would be tippmann custom 98, tippmann alpha black and the Siera? All of which are highly customizable with many parts on the market.

If you guys are into woodsball or just plain tactical scenario games then those guns are very good choices.

naa it's not for sale..yet. It's my current setup that i use.

In addition, alpha black markers aren't bad but if you get it make sure you buy a cyclone feed for it. (especially if you want to replace the hopper with a tac cap for a more realistic look). Alpha black markers are basically 98 customs lol

yeah i hear that a lot about how tough it is to tell team mates apart. I usually put those coloured ribbons on the tip of my gun, back of the mask and legs.

if you are looking into buying your own gear, I would suggest buying them separately. These package deals are generally crap. Tippmann Custom is okay. Mask sucks, hopper sucks. HPA tank > CO2.

I suggest going on craigslist and buy a tippmann a5. Customize from there depending on what you like.

Most likely getting a used mini for the gf and extcy for myself.

I havent done anything to maintain the gun at all in the past 2 years, it's just been sitting in my closet. One of my friend told me to just put some oil into the main chamber and cock it a couple times. I'm just wondering what else I need to do?

I'm wanting to go paintballing again in 2 weeks and i really do not want to spend too much right now.

Tippmann 98s, A5, X7's basically anything made by them are more durable than most guns. All you should need to do is open er up make sure the cocking pin is lubed lightly and make sure all internals with o-rings are greased/oiled. Just normal cleaning proceedures: clean barrel, clean feeder/clamp neck area.

Why not just take it apart and clean + lube it? It's actually pretty easy, just watch some videos on youtube. I learned how to do it in 5 min, very beginner friendly.
