2K Games has announced that it will be publishing Mafia 2, sequel to 2002's organized crime sim, Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. Developed by Illusion Softworks for "next generation consoles" and Games for Windows, the game faces unbelievably steep and varied competition as it vies to be "the industry's most compelling Mafia title to date." It also promises to deliver "high octane gunplay with white knuckle driving and an engaging narrative," though we're not sure why you'd be driving a giant white hand or getting married in the course of the story. But hey, they had us at the high octane gunplay bit.

never beat the 1st Mafia, couldnt win that big race and i wasnt willing to use the save cheat/trick/bug to get around it :/

if you download the patch for the first game, it will allow you to choose the difficulty for the race.

depends on how you drive I think, the car's grip is really touchy so you can't swing it around like GTA, etc. if I remember correctly.

With 104 vehicles, 384 missions, 2700 collectible items, countless hours of fucking around you cant go wrong with JC2. Im 18 hours deep and only done 21%. Game is well worth the money if you enjoy GTA, SR2, Mafia, godfather type games. It puts any of those to shame.

Just finished playing the demo off Steam.

Game is fun but the driving is really heavy so it takes a little while to get use to. I have to get a new video card if I want to run it at decent FPS. My 8800GT ran at a score of "E" :lol

Demo is only ~10 minutes of actual game time. There's a timer on there and you do the "Fat Man" mission so you can't really drive around in free roam without losing out on the mission.

If you get it for 360/PS3 then that's fine but if you get it for PC then you will want to install the demo. My 8800GT was chugging along really badly.

If you check out the steam forums, there's a way to freeze the timer so you can roam around as much as you want

I have an 8800GTS and it seems to be alright, just above 30 fps average when I ran the benchmark

I played a bit of it last night and thought the chapters ended way too fast.

Usually I associate 4-5 missions in a chapter. This game is fun but so far it feels like it'll be done quickly. The free roam sucks because there's no side missions and all you can do is fill up gas, customize/repair your car and buy clothes.

I'm not expecting a GTA game here but a little variety and use of the nice detailed map would of been helpful. The map just feels useless without anything to do.

the only thing 'sandbox' about this game is the ability to drive around the city.

there's no side missions and the interaction with NPCs is non-existant.

If you're into the Grand Theft Auto type game and if you're into Mafia game this would be a good game to play. If you're a really DIE hard fan of GTA, this game ain't the best. Just FYI

I finished this game in about 15-20 hours, not even. I gotta say, I finished Red Dead Redemption and I finished this and Mafia was a bit weak. 2K Games produced this and it's their first time doing a GTA style type game and they have a few things they need to sort out.

Let's start with the Pros:
Story was decent but not EPIC as GTA, the graphics was really good, the sound, the weapons were solid. You recognize the same environment type area similar to GTA.
You get to collect playboy bunnies center folds(50 of them)
Without having to spoil the game for you, there was one part that was really cool to see a transition of scenery / music / cars. you'll know what I mean when you're 30% into the game. That was the only time it really WOW-ed me or thought it was cool.

Cons:
GTA = so much more fun ESP the environment. You get to flirt with hookers, work out, find hidden helicopters, TONS of side missions, different 'territories' and most of all, you get to choose a different ending.
MAFIA II was lacking a lot of things, maybe because the story is based during 1940-1951 but you don't get to pimp out your wardrobe, you don't get to play pool etc. none of the really fun side missions for GTA or Red Dead Redemption.
I mean I was hoping there would be like a titty bar you can go check out, have a broad dance with you etc.... NOPE.
Because of everything said above, it's just boring to roam around the city.

Glitches and misses:
They really expect you to know everything. I had no idea what it was like to be caught by the cops or what the 3 stars / 4 stars system was all about (level of crime). Having said that, the game has a HUGE glitch of where you get to escape really easily as long as you have good driving skills. In GTA, you have swat teams and helicopters... in this game.. nope. All you have to do is just JUMP from your car, and start running far enough and the heat of the police will be gone and you're pretty much good to go. So I guess that's a good thing.

Hide feature. While they try to use Gears of War hide feature, it's decent but I didn't like the fact you have to press the same hide button to come back out. Guess that was just a habit thing.

Gameplay 7.5/10 (GTA and Red Dead was a solid 9)
I'm happy to say it's clear why this was only an 7.5. Story was not as epic, replay / roam around town was not worthy that's why it's only an 7.5.

story is too condensed and it seems like they edited a shitload out of it as there seems to be many gaps or areas which they could have had more missions to add to the story or more cutscenes to develop the story more

they really tried to bring across a message of "this sort of life sucks" which kind of got sort of campy

and i hated the ending!! they better release an expansion or something ;)

but what was there is nice its just that it seems like they brought scissors to The Godfather and edited it down from 3hrs to 1hr

6/10 my dislike of the gameplay engine? and the graphics brings it down from 7 to 6 id get into it but, ugh!



id suggest that consoles or the xbox is at fault but considering GTA was on both systems and had just soooo much more i cant -_-

I just finished this game. All I can say is... rent it, don't buy it.

My comments are the same with everyone else. I was expecting a little more play in the free roam like side missions and and interactions with pedestrians. But there was none, buying clothes and fixing cars gets old and boring really quick. Even running around town looking for playboy mags got boring.

The only thing that gets thumbs up from me is the cutscenes. Otherwise, I give this game a 6.

i just bought the Sapphire HD5770 and its awesome.. i played it on MAX settings and it ran smooth.. my old card was the 7600GT and even on the lowest setting it was shit slow..

got the ATi card from NCIX for $159plus tax..
