playing the ps2 version while waiting for pre-ordered ps3 version to come. i would say goalies are tweaked a lot better. they freeze the play more often too. scoring is more difficult............for now.

man, after playing like 7 games worth i gotta say i'm not very impressed at all with this game

Replays are WAY too short, sometimes you dont even see the actual play develop, u might just see the goalie floundering for the puck

the gameplay although improved doesnt seem that big of a change over 07, the deking is definatly improved but i've found it nearly impossible to use the 1 on 1 deke in the neutral zone against 2 defenders, or even against 1 coming down the wing

I was used to the awsome highlights and intros of 2k7, with this there's 5 seconds of anthem then the puck is dropped

very little variety in character creation, the Dynasty mode seems OK, but somewhat bland considering the addition of the AHL affiliate

i dunno..it seems like I had alot more fun a couple months ago playing 2k7 on the PS3 rather than 08, i'll play through a season i guess and see how it goes

oh, also another gross function of 08 is the shootout challenges, shootouts against the computer when the computer is using the other teams top players it will perform the same move every single time, same result, so it's pretty much useless to hit rematch

in ea 07 and 2k7 I always forced the goalie to freeze so I could one time the face off. drove my brother crazy when I played him too cause I was so good at winning the face off. haha

Totally agree with you. 2K7 was a good game. It almost makes me want to get 2K8 if I wasn't so loyal to EA. If it only had the deking play of EA it would be complete.

Also, it is not smooth. You can tell the PS3 is 30 fps. I played the demo of the 360 and it was like butter. It doesn't hinder game play but does make it less enjoyable.

I am also going to play a season and see how it goes.

this game is a blast to play. you guys must not be very bright if you can't figure out the controls, because the skill stick OWNS the hell out of that shitty ass "PRO STICK" crap from 2k8. the classic controls suit me perfectly fine. i'm not sure how the 360 version "seems worse" than the ps3 one when they're the exact same game.

only thing i wish they did was add the block passing lane button to the classic controls, then it would be perfect. oh and my other complaint is that the computer cycles the puck way too fast at superhuman speeds while my teammates just stand there watching.

you have to apply the patch downloaded from ea. there's no mynhl in the pc version. and if you have a cracked version. you'll need the original exe file and the hacked patch/exe file or else it won't work

the replays still really tick me off, as sometimes it doesnt even show the play which just occured, rather an earlier one, even if the one that just happened was an awsome one :(

does anyone else have this problem on xbox live?

every time i try play a ranked or unranked game on live, it stops and searches for roster updates, theres ALWAYS a roster update that i have to download every single time, and it takes long, causing my opponent that i would be matched up against, to leave

its really frustrating and just started happening yesterday

before yesterday, it would just search for a roster update during the first game i play after i turn on the system, but now it searches every time i wanna start a new game

delete your online roster file from your files and then once u play ur first game it'll re-download em and after that it'll stop downloading

Add some mods to it. I've modded my NHL since 07 and it looks 10x better than what EA ships with.

Identical ice to real arenas, new cyberfaces and facepacks, better rosters, realistic soundpacks, custom menus, better jerseys, etc.

The only thing missing right now is Iam's TCE for 08 (Total Control Editor) used to tweak the AI.

I used NHL Project 07 - Goalies.

They support it if you do a little of tweaking. Get Wide 08 from Sportsgamer or NHLDepot.

the computer still never really scores though no matter how much they cycle the puck. lol

this game is all about aiming your shots glove side.

Modding so much? The reason we mod it is because we can and that's something you cannot do in NHL08 for NG.

You're stuck with everything it is shipped with. You can't get rosters besides the EA ones, you can't update arenas to look authentic, you can't update the sideboards, you can't add in cyberfaces or new goalie pads/masks, etc.

sideboards, cyberfaces, pads etc. those are all aesthetics and presentation. it's definitely a bonus to be able to customize those to their real-life counterparts (on the pc) but i was talking about the AI learning in NG--gameplay, specifically. i'm not sure if the mods can tweak the player behavior on the pc to par with NG.

i'm finally at the 100 wins mark after 2 months of playing... damn lol

started off the first 25 games @ 5-15-5 cuz I just couldn't score and it was so different than 2007... man I was getting killed left and right lol.

Now i'm at 100-75-15 after going 30-15-0 this month. hehe. I'm getting better.

haha my buddy always says the game is rigged with handicaps etc. because he and most people I play always beat me in shots, time on attack, etc. and i still win :D

I tell him it's because i Choose my spots and only take legit scoring oportunities lol, here's my last 3 games:

no way can you get outshot 35 16 and win. lol

i find alot of people take shots that there's no way they are going to go in, or i get in front of them

I score on a different move almost every time unless a one timer is really open

Thats true, but having a goalie rated at 90 really helps too... fewer fluky goals. Thats why i always choose Canucks. I just won a game that i had no business winning, thanks to luongo.

hey guys, okay, i know i'm bringing a really old thread back from the dead. but i just started playing nhl 08 this week and i could use some tips on getting rocked less.
for faceoffs... just a big HOW in general!
and bodychecks... i just can't get a good one in. it seems like my guy is lined up well and then i hit a direction on the RS and usually the body check that was supposed to be huge ends up just barely a tap
