It's all over the infomercials at night. It seems like they give amazing results in just 90 days.
Does anyone use this home fitness training?
Discuss please.

I've seen the infomercial as well and it looks promising. Then again, it's pretty hardcore: 6 workouts a week, ~60 mins per workout with varying workouts. If you did any sort of varying workout which shocks your muscles for 3 months, you will see results. You will need a chin-up bar for your door frame.

Oh wow. That's intense, I had no clue it was 6 workouts a week ~ 60 mins.
I thought it was a magical work-out plan 5 minutes a day, 3 days a week thing. haha..

Yep, no shortcuts unless you use crack. :)
The P90X is not for beginners either, you have to have a certain level of fitness before you start it.

fyi, if you do any kind of downloading of movies etc, you can find the entire program online at mininova for download. its huge, about 8gb but if you plan on doing it, you can burn them all to dvd and it even comes with the calendars and worksheets. I downloaded it tosee what the workouts look like. pretty hardcore as everyone said. Oh if you download it for free, youll be missing out on the supplements etc. but just to try out it might be worth it to download if youre that interested. I deleted it after watching 2 workouts.

here's a sample. A great inspiration if u want to try it.

tried it for 2 months. But can't follow the nutrition guide part of it. got good results though. Lost almost 35 lbs. and gained some muscles.
got to be commited if you really are serious.

got to be commited if you really are serious. 35 pounds in 2 months? that's not healthy to lose that much weight that fast. i especially find this hard to believe if you weren't following a diet plan.
i have heard that P90X is a good program though if you can stay motivated to follow it.

P90X Program.. There are actually 3 different programs you can choose for P90X. The one I have listed below is the Classic Version. There is also Lean and another one called Doubles..
The program has 3 phases which are 4 weeks each but they allow you to do any particular phase longer if you feel you need to before going to the next phase.. Each phase has a different nutrition guide as well because each phase is different.
PHASE 1
Weeks 1-3
Day 1 - Chest & Back, Ab Ripper X
Day 2 - Plyometrics
Day 3 - Shoulders & Arms, Ab Ripper X
Day 4 - Yoga X
Day 5 - Legs & Back, Ab Ripper X
Day 6 - Kenpo X
Day 7 - Rest or X Stretch
Week 4
Day 1 - Yoga X
Day 2 - Core Synergistics
Day 3 - Kenpo X
Day 4 - X Stretch
Day 5 - Core Synergistics
Day 6 - Yoga X
Day 7 - Rest or X Stretch
PHASE 2
Week 5-7
Day 1: Chest, Shoulders & Triceps, Ab Ripper X
Day 2: Plyometrics
Day 3: Back and Biceps, Ab Ripper X
Day 4: Yoga X
Day 5: Legs & Back, Ab Ripper X
Day 6: Kenpo X
Day 7: Rest or X Stretch
Week 8
Day 1: Yoga X
Day 2: Core Synergistics
Day 3: Kenpo X
Day 4: X Stretch
Day 5: Core Synergistics
Day 6: Yoga
Day 7: Rest or X Stretch
PHASE 3
Week 9 & 11
Day 1: Chest & Back, Ab Ripper X
Day 2: Plyometrics
Day 3: Shoulders & Arms, Ab Ripper X
Day 4: Yoga X
Day 5: Legs & Back, Ab Ripper X
Day 6: Kenpo X
Day 7: Rest or X Stretch
Week 10 & 12
Day 1: Chest, Shoulders & Triceps, Ab Ripper X
Day 2: Plyometrics
Day 3: Back & Biceps, Ab Ripper X
Day 4: Yoga X
Day 5: Legs & Back, Ab Ripper X
Day 6: Kenpo X
Day 7: Rest or X Stretch
Week 13
Day 1: Yoga X
Day 2: Core Synergistics
Day 3: Kenpo X
Day 4: X Stretch
Day 5: Core Synergistics
Day 6: Yoga X
Day 7: Rest or X Stretch
It is generally a high intensity work out only 3-4 days per week. The "filler" days are Yoga, Plyometrics, and Kenpo which some may find just as intense.
The Ab Ripper X is 15 minutes of abdominal destruction.

Dedication and Discipline!!!!!!!
If you can stick with it, it will work.
But it is no differnt than going to a gym and working hard.
The only thing i see from this program is that everything is layed out for you.
But then again, if you were working out at a gym, you create your own layout.

what equipment is needed for p90x?
bossxx
06-16-2008, 09:04 PM
Pull up bar, dumbbells or tension bands and a chair.
push up bars if you like.
The whole idea is to make it simple (equipment wise). The thing is they use a variety of dumbbells (obviously) for different exercises.. Thats why I bought the select techs lol easy to switch weights.
Disillusion_10
06-22-2008, 05:03 PM
like ppl said very intense workout, you are basically doing a workout for 60 minutes non-stop (yes there is a few water breaks here and there) but basically you are going full out
and if you've never worked out before, p90x probably isn't the program for you, you need to be quiet fit before doing it or you will die the first few workouts and never use it again
what i like about it is it lays everything out for you and you do a variety of exercises
althought the ab workout is only 15 minutes, it usually takes me twice the amount of time cause they do like 300 crunches in a row whereas i need to stop or else my midsection would explode

FYI, i think there are people on Youtube showing how to do the 'ab ripper x', it really is pretty hard on the gut but I think I'm starting to notice results too (after 2 weeks). Not so much trimming down yet but its starting to take some kind of shape compared to before when it was a big 1 pack.
!Shuya80
08-01-2008, 11:04 PM
all the other workouts are intense...i could only handle to about 5th week...as wut other ppl said u gotta be in pretty decent shape to do this..ab ripper x...to put in perspective how bad it is...back when i was doing it last summer i had a 6 pack...i'm not a horribly strong person..and did my set of crunches pushups b4 i sleep or wake up. and of course go to the gym every other day. i got p90x n fired up the chest and back workout not too bad i thought, it was intense but i still managed my own..then when it got to ab ripper x i was drenched in sweat n from that work out..i couldn't really stand to my full height for about 2-3 days..i basically walked around like L from deathnote for a couple days..painful but it works.

Bought this on shebay for 100bux and gonna start this program once I'm back from holidays. Since i spent the money to get, rather than just downloading the program, it will kinda force me to keep doing it. Just need to find a set of dumbells and a cheap yoga mat to go along with the DIY chin-up bar in the basement. I'm in decent shape, can do about 8-10 overhand chin-ups and 30 or so push ups. I'm really looking to get toned while staying flexible for hockey, I hate that bodybuilder look.
I think the main thing is to take pics of day 1 and after every 2-4 weeks to compare. I'm pretty confident I'll see results along with eating right. I will miss beer. :(

Wenis

You wont be able to find it at costco. They usually only sell things that have a high demand. I was able to find some at fitness depot and Sport check... usually go for around $30. (chin up bar)
Nismo200SX
08-15-2008, 11:24 PM
I bought the whole thing minus the full band set but i did get 1 band the green one which is thick as hell and has a hell of a lot of resistance. and the chin-up bar(which i found is useless to me because i dont have anywhere to mount in my house and therefore need to sell it) anyways.
the workout is seriously intense. the whole muscle confusion works great. what I started doing for awhile was doing a build up during the 1st week of the standard program.
starting with 10 reps and working upto 25 reps doing 5 more reps each week. all i can say is no matter what you do each week your going to be feeling the burn. but due to illness and injury (not from P90x) I have yet to go back on it. its a tough program but in the end I can safely say that if you've got the workout space and enough gear at home to do everything it will save you money from going to the gym.
there is also a 10 minute workout that Tony Horton does too. If someone has it them or a link that would be helpful

yea man this shit looks in intense like im pretty sure it works because its just a work out plan that changes constantly. Its just like if u go to the gym and u do a a work out plan for month then change ur work out routine, it will do the same. Becuase ur not doing the same routine over and over again till ur muscle gets really use to it. The workout in those videos r pretty much focusing mostlly in toning

I got my chin up bar from Wal Mart, the total gym one, so you can use it for chinups/pullups when set up in a door way. and you can put it on the ground and use it for situps and push ups.
I started the p90x program today, and it was pretty hard, I was in really good shape during the summer, but I then got bored and stopped going to the gym for the last 2 months.
Not ready for P90X yet, the ab ripper killed me so i'm currently working on the 10-minute trainer (which is really 30-minutes to really get a decent a workout).

you know what, 10 minute trainer is a good way to lose weight... i've done it, lost 20 lbs, but i also use weights as well (seperately)....
overall, i'm happy with the results - i just don't have the time or ability to commit to P90X, but a coworker swears by it - with the results evident to see

P90x actually spells out an eating and working out routine for people. One that gets them in shape if they follow it. Things like the Bowflex are like what you're talking about, "get off the couch, exercise."
On top of which, P90x isn't meant for your average fatass, it's meant for people already in shape to get into much better shape.
Sorry, jakobi, you're clearly talking out of your ass on this one. Do some reading on it, or hell, download it and see for yourself.

simple, dont kncock it just because you dont know what it is.
ya, your right, basic concept, its all about getting off the couch, working hard and being commited.
that is what the program is about, its a guide for people that dont know what they are doing, it is a very good program and it helps to motivate you to do it everyday.
its a program + motivation + guide all in one. its a pretty basic idea if you think about it, but it is done well, its not a scam, it dose work.

I don't do the whole thing, being as I have no weights at home, but for that stuff:
The pushup bars are kind of retarded, you can use anything for a bit more elevation if you really need it.
Resistance bands and chinup bars can be found at Walmart. I got my chinup bar at the one here in Victoria for $20.

you can do it at the gym by:
A) Portable DVD player or put the videos on you Ipod.
B) You can print off or Photocopy the worksheets and just follow the exercises and write down your reps and weights.
C) memorizing it like you said
D) All of the above.

I just started it almost two weeks ago and you start noticing a difference within the second week. You will notice that you have a bit more strength and stamina and gradually doing more reps.
It also depends on what kind of shape you are in when you start the program. I was bulking up during the summer but then I got bored and stopped working out for about 2 months and lost about 10 pounds of muscle. It was really hard at first doing the pull ups and chinups and Im still working hard on getting those numbers up, but pullups have to be the hardest exercise there is in the program.

This is coming from a guy who's been a varsity athlete in HS and college. Maybe because I never did cross fit training before, but the intensity of the work out is different - on a positive note.
FYI, I don't even do the Yoga, Kempo, and plyo ( my bball days are done a long time ago )
I just finished Day 60. At this point - I still have trouble doing cross legged reaches ( ab work out ) for 25 reps after the other sequence of the ab work out. :D
After Day 90, I would stick with my normal gym routine for 4 months ( with changes to the exercise every 4 weeks ) then go back to this again.

Next time, if you are going to be a jackass or "hardcore" about your answer, please keep it to yourself and let someone else like Will068 answer.

has anyone tried their ten minute trainer ??? the less hardcore version i guess..
Haven't tried it but would love to
I'm on the ten minute trainer right now. Its not really 10 minutes as you need to do 3 10-minute video's in one session as per the chart for a more intense workout. I've ditched the band on some workouts for dumbells now and its going pretty good. I highly suggest this for people who can't keep up with P90x.

oh really ?? what do you mean you ahve to do three 10 minute sessions in a row ??? i was going to do this ten minute trainer each morning.. and then at night. hit the gym as usual !!!
Like P90,10-minute trainer is a series of video's. One 10-minute video for Cardio, Total Body, Lower Body, etc. You can perform one each day or more for accelerated results. 10-minute trainer is geared more for older people and women so a single 10-minute workout may feel like a long warm up for some. You dont have to do 3. I do 3 b/c my fitness level isn't that bad but not quite at the P90x level.
Here's part of the chart,

I think imma start off with the 10 minute trainer.. has anyone seen these for sale locally? and how much? if not, i'll purchase it online somewhere.

Cardio X is actually pretty good. It starts off pretty slow with yoga and stretching but picks up pretty well at the 1/2 way mark.
has anyone here actually followed the nutrition plan for the P90x? Naturally having a strict diet plan is key to any workout regime if you want great results...So I'm thinkin about following this one to see how it works..
however, I'm having a bit of trouble understanding it lol...anyone familiar with it or has done it?

P90x is awesome!
i've been on the p90x for the past 53 days, one more week until i finish my first 60 days.
at first i couldn't do more than 6 chin ups or pull ups, or anything more than 20 standard push ups, military push ups and wide push ups on bars, after pushing myself everyday, following the diet plan and scheduling i can do around 30-35 push ups per set on bars, and about 15 chin ups per set. and i feel great!
you really have to focus on the diet, scheduling, and really have to push yourself. It will pay off in the end.
i will post pictures from day 0 to 90. after i finish the program.

but a quick question to people who are/have done this....
is it a workout that strictly has to be done at home?
or could i load it all up on my iphone or whatever and bring it to the gym with me and do it there?
im not sure if its the kind of workout where its GO GO GO all in one spot doing different things!? (ive never seen the videos...)
also i read that fitness town is the only local place to get this instead of ordering online... true?

you'll need a decent amount of space to do most of the exercises, so if you've got a studio or stretch area at your gym, you'll be ok. the other thing that might keep you at home is that the exercises are quite unorthodox so you'll probably get a lot of eyes watching you at the gym.

The program should cover all necessary aspects for your goals. IMO, it is not for beginners. Throw in as much dedication and heart to staying on the program/eating properly and you wont need to run laps. If you want the extra cardio then use the cardio X minimum of 4 times a week.
Workout smarter not harder :)

you dont even have to follow the nutrition plan 100%.
since ur new to working out and whatnot its prolly going to be harder for you to stick to working out AND a strict strict diet plan. just continue with the videos and eat moderately be a little more aware of what your putting into your body and i guarentee you will see results in body transformation as well as being able to keep up and play soccer and a faster pace then what ur use to now!

I downloaded the program to try it back in October and after a month or so, I injured my shoulder and then became sick so I stopped working out. It was working good, but I wasnt eating properly so I was just bulking up.
Now I Purchased the DVDs from Wal mart about 4 weeks ago and have been following the nutrition plan and damn am I ever seeing results. Lost approximately 8 pounds in the first two weeks, and I keep losing fat and gaining lean muscle.
The program works exactly as advertised if you follow the nutrition plan.
Cant wait to start Phase 2 next week and get my ass kicked all over again.

Yeah they give you a whole meal plan for 7 days, I have pretty much narrowed it down to this as being my most consistent meals I eat:
breakfast - 8 egg whites + 1 whole egg scrambled with 2 slices of Turkey bacon, or protein shake and banana and apple.
snack - protein shake and protein bar
Lunch - usually 6 inch subway sandwich or a chicken salad, or tuna salad.
Snack - protein bar or maybe a vector bar, or tuna snack packs.
Dinner - Salmon with Wild rice, chicken with baked potato, usually with garden salad.
Just before bed - one cup of cottage cheese.
As far as eating healthy on the road. there is always a Subway around or grocery store where you can get chicken and garden salads for lunch or a healthy sub. If you crave burgers go to A&W and get the Grilled chicken Deluxe burger with side salad and Italian dressing. In my office I have lots of Protein bars and tuna snack packs that I have and I will usually bring in my shaker cup with my protein powder.

Shouldn't damage the door frame at all. If its properly installed, it should be completely adjacent to the stud supports of the door frame.
If its not installed properly, as in not 100% horizontal, the bar will fall straight down and you'll fall on your feet...so no harm there.

imo P90X is great if your commited to it everyday, and you have a reasonably physique already, otherwise if your overweight etc. i think your better off spending the hour a day doing intense cardio [and yes i know P90 has cardio]

You need a chin-up bar, a chair and some weights or reistance bands. Pretty simple stuff. I've been going for ~20 days straight now. Eating the same thing everyday except for my birthday which I had 3 beers.
Phase 1 is high protein. I'm at 2100-2400calories/day Roughly 50% protein 30% carbs and 20% fat. I haven't cheated on my diet at all except for the above mentioned beer. I've been having eggbeaters, tuna, skim milk, chicken breast, apple, whole wheat tortilla, lettuce, banana, spinach, carrots, whey protein, lots of water.
I haven't missed one workout. You are allowed 1 day of rest each week so I have used 2 of those in my 3 weeks. The 4th week is a recovery week with no heavy weights.
So far I have lost maybe 1-2lbs but dropped ~3% bodyfat in the past 3 weeks. From what I have been reading the biggest changes happen during the 2nd and 3rd phases so I can't wait.
So far I'm pleased with the results though. I did not workout in the past 4 or 5 months before starting this program so I was really out of shape. I just said I can do it and started doing it everyday, I've only been at it 3 weeks but its all in your head. You will be sore at first and not completing all the moves but just keep at it.

so P90X is just like Billy's Boot Camp DVD?
I just had a quick look at billys boot camp. It looks to me more cardio oriented and a lot more girls to look at on the tv. You can also watch all of it on youtube.
P90x has resistance training 3 days a week and 12 different hour long workouts. Similar idea I guess in that you both watch them on tv.
I'm on day 39 of p90x now. Haven't missed one workout and take 1 rest day a week. Not one cheat meal in 39 days so something is working. Doing this makes me realize just how out of shape I was. Not seeing crazy visual results so far but I'm down ~5% bodyfat and ~8lbs and lost inches in some spots and seen big increases in endurance and strength relative to what I started at.
51 days to go.

im on DAY 24, i've always been athletic but i've usually let my skills help me get by.
anyways first week was brutal, soo fuking intense, but after that, doing the moves every week and repeating it, it gets easier in some aspect but still tiring as hell.
I can see my arms taking shape already, some muscles are showing which i havent had before. My legs i know are changing too as when i play hockey, i'm not getting tired at all. as for my abs, i believe that's one of the last thing to disappear after the fat on ur arms and everywhere else goes first?? but i could lready fit into some of my tight shirts lol.
as for nutrition plan, i do my own plan, definitely more self conscience about what i eat but yes i do cheat, bbt here and there, alcohol, i eat my mom's cooking (pho, etc). but definitely lots of protein bars n shakes and fruits n vegables.

I am 5'10". I know it is light. I'm still really weak but way stronger than when I started. I will be increasing my intake on my 2nd round to try and add some weight.
When I started I could barely do a chinup and now I can do 8-10. Pushups are at about 30 up from 15.
If anyone is overweight I suggest giving it a try. I recommended it to a friend and she has been doing it for 8 days now and has lost 8lbs and 19" from her arms, legs, hips and chest combined. I couldn't beleive it in just 1 week.
Has anybody else had positive/negative results from trying it?

Has anybody else had positive/negative results from trying it?
i'm like 190 and at your height so i really wanna give it a try
isnt it bad losing 8lbs in one week? i heard losing 3 lbs in a week is healthy
so did you purchase p90x?

I bought the program couple months back along with my new TV system that I put in the basement.
I consider myself in pretty good shape already when I started but still got owned by this when I first started. I think the pace that they do it was pretty intense, I found myself taking a lot of breaks.
Been doing it for 2 months and then stopped recently because life got too busy with work and other stuff and just doing basic cardio and hitting the gym once in awhile.
I don't do any of that stretching, and yoga etc stuff inbetween the workouts and don't follow the nutrition guide. I eat what I want so I guess my results can be a lot better if I did that.
Things I loved about the program:
- It's a VERY EFFICIENT workout. You get the maximum among of work in the minimal among of time.
- Very good for toning, good for the Brad Pitt in fight club look and not the meathead bodybuilder look.
- Awesome abs program.
Things I didn't like:
- Leg workouts were lacking some things. I think you still need to incorporate squads and deadlifts once in awhile.
- If you do this for a year - I can see myself getting bored. I guess you gotta do it for 90 days, then stop and do regular workouts for 6 months or so and then go back to another 90 day again.
Would I recommend it to my friends and family?
Yes, recommended it to my brother and some friends.
My brother is currently doing it and he had awesome results.
Friends are really out of shape so they really struggled the first 2-3 weeks, but now they seem to be getting the hang of it.

I did Lean P90X for about a month and a half. I lost a few pounds within the first week and a half and since then I've noticed a difference in my arms, stomach, and legs. I am trying to get back on it but I am feel so lazy. It definitely delivers great results if you stick with it. It's not easy but it offers a lot of variety which I prefer over the regular gym routines I used to do.

Go to craigslist....theres a guy on there thats actually a distributor for P90x. He sells authentic copies, still sealed for $65. He also sells the Beachbody chin up bar too for cheap. His name is Rav; good guy to deal with.

ok so i'm considering doing P90X but i want to do it with dumbells..
is there a certain weight they recomend or do u have to go by what u can lift?
shawn79
08-28-2009, 08:50 PM
^
5lb-20lb for beginners and fit people, 25lb-30lb if u can do it over 12 reps
in the video the heaviest dumbell they used were 25 and 30's for Alternating shoulder press.
Id say the weight training part is easy to follow through but its intense, gets me sweaty afterwards lol.
Just expect to say "ahhh fuck" every set u finish

I ended up buying those quick switch dumbells from 5-50lbs. So much better than normal dumbells. Once you try them you will never go back. When I started I was doing 30lbs on some of the back exercises but now I'm at 50lbs so need to buy they add on package to make the dumbells heavier.
Anyone buy one from CL?
Or is anyone selling their copy of it?

Actually, there is this one guy that continuously posts on Craigslists that sells authentic copies at his costs. Hes a very good guy to deal with.....If i still had his number on me, i would PM it to you. So yeah, the day i messaged him, he responded within an hour and we did the transaction smoothly.
So yeah....check it out! 60 bucks is what i paid for the dvds, authentic copies, brand new and sealed.

A couple of my buddies and I got together a while back and decided to all do this after hearing these other people doing it and getting amazing results.
It's definitely not a workout that beginners can just jump into doing, I've been working out for a year and started this program, and have found it challenging. I never used to work my abs, and when I tried the Ab Ripper program in the P90x my stomach area hurt for a week, therefore imagine your whole body aching if you're just jumping in as a beginner.
About two weeks ago I sprained my wrist and is unable to continue, but till then I have gotten decent results.
I agree that it's an amazing program if you have the mindset to do it.
i only do the ab ripper X and it works hella well

Yeah, as everyone said it's not really for beginners. I did it for about 5 weeks before I gave up. I gained about 7 pds of muscle since I used major whey protein / weight gainers, and I did no cardio at all, since I'm skinny. So I did modify the program a bit. I also ate like a fucking monster.
It's a very intense workout, the abs workout is really killer, and if you're starting workout with just p90x, you might not be able to finish even 5 minutes of it.
You have to be very motivated, get up everyday, sore, and be ready to jump back into it. I got pretty amazing results in just 5 weeks, now thinking about it, imagine what 90 days of this insanity would do for you.
If you're motivated and looking to get fit, lean, or gain muscle mass, P90X is a great program. I know it was for me!

I know its a year old thread but I started this program a week and a half ago @254lbs 27% body fat. At first it was hard as hell but now that I know what to expect I am doing much better on the 2nd week. I've done ab ripper 5 times now and its intense theres a total of 339 reps and so far I can do 262/339 (at the beginning i only did 59). Unless your some huge mother fucker you should be able to do what they do, but, don't expect to do as many reps as they do. Tony Horton mentions many times that you will get better and better every time you do it again. Has anyone here completed it and got good results?

I thought I would bump this thread since I started it last Monday. WOW what a work out its been and my whole body has been beyond sore the past 3 days and it's great. Eating healthy and I'm going all out. I used to be 190 7% but that was 12yrs ago and now I'm 260 who knows what % I'm at right now.
I haven't felt this burn in a long time and I honestly love it. Give's me a lot more motivation that it's working to get into the shape I need and want. Going to Phoneix end of July so Hopefully I will loose some good weight for that trip and just go hard when I get back. The thing I like about it is you can do it at home on your own and you don't have to go to a gym and have annoying people piss ya off. I way always huge into cardio and never big into weights at all.
Where's the best place to get the bands from? Ya I haven't been using them but I have been doing all of the motions which is still a bit of a workout since I haven't done all that much in quite a while.

I would recommend RESISTANCE BANDS | STRONGEST | by Bodylastics (http://www.bodylastics.com), I bought a set of Everlast Resistance Bands from eBay, then again from Walmart and they both ended up snapping after a couple weeks. I've had my Bodylastic one's a good two years and there's no sigh of wear.

So I've been reading through some of the comments (not all) and most people are saying the program works well, they lost a lot of weight ect.
I'm trying to get bigger, is p90 for me? I did the first day workout today and barely finished it. I REALLY like this program, feel like it's at my pace, but I've been 145lbs for the past 3 years, will this make me lose weight? stay the same? gain muscle weight? Lol thanks in advance

oh and i'm not really following the nutrition plan (i don't have it).. i torrented the files :$
but i'm consuming lots of protein (enough for my body weight). I know usually gaining mass is like less reps, big weights.. but the p90 workouts dont look like that so that 's why i'm wondering if this program will make me gain any weight at all
I think I'll still do the 90 days regardless because it's good
