The lowdown:

Its a show about serial killers.

Not your "American Justice" style show where they follow the life of Henry Lee Lucas and why he became a serial murderer, blah blah blah.
Not your "CSI" style show where you see a team of scientists and police chase down some pervert who likes to strangle girls in the back of his molester van..

No... this is a show about a sympathetic serial killer who works as a blood spatter expert for the Miami Coroner's office. Its based on a series of books called "Darkly Dreaming Dexter"

I know what you're thinking. "Oh. Look at the obvious duality of his professional and personal life. How cheeseball is this?"

Well, hold up.

This show goes into the psychology of what its like for him to live his life day-to-day as a sociopath. His friends, his family, his girlfriend. It even goes into how his father, a Miami cop, taught him how to be a successful serial killer when he was growing up.

He kills only "the ones who deserve to die" like other murderers or general scumbags. He gets away with it because he has a little bit of OCD and I've got a big greasy hardon for this show.

The problem is that its hard to find on cable so you might have to go to that TV-Links site in the UK that we all know about to watch it.

Ya, i saw a preivew a couple weeks ago and was like that looks good, so I went on the internet and watched the1st episode. After that, i watched the whole season, and the beginning of season 2 in about a week.
Awesome series, its like CSI, but opposite, from the killers perspective.
A must watch.

I'm half done watching the 2nd season... A lot of people make fun of the plot but they really should sit down and watch how good this show is.

Yes... I did.

I bought season 1 a few weeks ago, and due to my inability to control myself I watched it all in a matter of a few days. I then proceeded to watch all of season 2 online. I enjoyed season 2 MUCH more, but it is an incredible show, and definitely in my top 3.

*SMALL SPOILERS* My favorite part is when dexter head butts doakes in his office... that was probably the coolest thing I've ever seen on a TV show.

I can NOT stand dexter's sister though. She should eat some damn food, stop wearing pants that go up to her neck, and learn to move her mouth normally.

Great show, I enjoyed season 2 more than season 1. Its got a quirky comedy to it..not everyone likes it or gets it. Thank god for HBO and Showtime cause they put out the best shows..Sopranos, The Wire, Entourage, and Dexter.

After reading the first post in this thread, I decided to check it out. Man, am I hooked! I powered through Season 1 and 2 in just over a week. When is Season 3 supposed to air?

typhoonslippery.. from the getgo they've already been adapting the book in various ways.

The first season followed the book more closely, but in the second season it deviated much more.

For the first season all the ancillary characters such as Angel, and the other supporting cast played almost no roles in the book.

few differences
-----
(possible spoiler for book readers) in the book the lieutenant dies after the first book and Dexter's sister finds out he's the killer.

Dexter's brother is an identical twin and in the end dexter helps him to escape.

James Doake's goes by a different name in the book.

Angel Batista is a lab tech instead of a homicide detective.

Paul and Dexter's girlfriend play almost no role in the book at all.

there's a bunch of other differences, but I'd have to say it is one of the rare occasions where the televised series outshines the source material it was based off of.

Was there a new episode this last Sunday? Two, maybe three weeks ago, I tried to watch Dexter, but it wasn't on. The following week, it looked like I missed an episode. What gives? I'm sure it is on CTV weekly on Sundays at 10 pm.

Thanks to you all, I downloaded all the 3 seasons. I got thru season 1 and 2 in two days and man it was good. The show is a lot slower than other TV shows I've watched but still very interesting. I have to say season 1 was very good, it did a great job at the end piecing the finale with the ice truck killer.

Season 2 took a weird turn. I was cheering on Dex for season 1 but BAM, now he's slowly getting caught. I was so scared for the entire series. I knew someone would find out and I was a bit disappointed they had to kill off Dokes. Lila was a good addition to the show, she was hot and the character was nicely written for season 2 from beginning to end to fully facilitate the story line.

Can't wait for season 3

Yup still watching and I have to agree I've always hated Deb. She's fucking annoying as hell and if I ever knew a girl that talked like that in real life id slap her. Great season so far as usual!

she's the reporter that Quinn is doing. man... i would keep watching the show as long as she's in it.
Season 1 was great, 2 was decent when they started off with the beginning on how they found all the dead bodies in the water. 3 was interesting becuase dexter found a new 'partner in crime'.
Season 4 is diff cause we already know who Trinity is.... i'll still watch.

Masuka needs way way way more screen time, he's so funny.

Oh, for sure. That last few seconds of this weeks episode blew my mind. It was beginning to be pretty obvious halfway through the episode that Christine shot Deb...I just didn't really expect her to be who she was....

YUP, the last 2 seconds of SEASON 4 Episode 9 was great.

Season 3 I wasn't quite feeling it but it was great to see Dexter having a partner in crime. Season 4 was a bit slow, but FINALLY the last 2 seconds of the episode saved it... ABOUT TIME!!!!!!

I think a major plot hole/error made so far is the fact that neither Deb or Batista have bothered to check Christine's background for male family members. If they know she's related to Trinity, and if they already suspected that the Trinity killer is 1) a middle aged 6 foot-something guy and 2) works in the school system (referenced an episode or two ago), then shouldn't they have been able to discover Trinity's identity by now?

Other than that, this season has been AMAZINGGGGG.

I don't think its a hole in the plot.

They knew that Christine was related to the Trinity Killer through Dna and are probably going to trace her family lines to narrow it down to the likely targets.

They arrested Christine because Debb/Batista knew she knew a lot more than she led on, and was a suspect for further questioning. (Although, we the viewer already know that Christine killed Lundy to protect her father)

Well, I guess we'll have to see what happens in the last couple of episodes but if I was Deb looking for the Trinity killer and found out Christine was related to him, I'd be looking up her information and background RIGHT AWAY to find all male relatives that fit the description of the Trinity killer. I just find it weird that they haven't addressed it yet. They already know (at least Deb does) that Christine shot her because her height fit Masuka's description

i thought "hello dexter morgan" was fucken great as the last line. not sure what will happen to the show, but i can say, Dexter is one of the few shows that ends the series well, there are rarely a cliff hanger for the last eposide.

I thought the previews from last week gave away too much from this weeks episode. You kind of knew from last weeks preview what Trinity was going to do.
I wasn't expecting Christine to kill herself though...I actually thought Trinity (her father) was going to do it

In the books Deb finds out about Dex. Thats what I thought this season was going to end out being too. I'm happy with the way it turned out tho.

I think next season will expand on Deb knowing that Dex is "damaged" and might climax there. Hopefully it doesn't get all stupid and talk about "demonic possession" like it does in the books.

I dont think it was another cycle. Because the kid they found was from the first cycle that started in Miami. The second kid that Dexter saved was supposed to be the start of the second cycle in Miami but it never got started.

And i think that Trinity killed Rita when he was looking for Dexter... she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time I guess.

Just got into this show, after hearing a lot about it lately. Probably everyone talking about the S4 cliffhanger. Anyway, I'm amazed. Very great writing, one of the best I've seen in a while.

Kinda almost reminds me of that Joss Whedon ironic yet dark humour style with Buffy/Angel.

Downloading S2. I can't believe it didn't win an emmy in it's first season.

It may not have been completed on purpose... but the similarities to the four-kill cycle are still apparent - perhaps the differences mark the end of Trinity's serial killing spree, the many things going wrong that led to his end.

You know, sorta like an ironic end for Trinity, with Dexter not only finishing the cycle with his own hands, but being a victim himself (losing Rita, Harrison being another potential killer).

I still thought season 4 was freaking great. it's one of the few series that i watch that doesn't have a huge cliff hanger in my mind. (compared to Lost etc...) but yeah, S1 blew me away, and S234 all had it's own diff personality and I loved it.

The line "Hi, dad" gave me such a high I was giddy for 5 minutes my dad was like wtf when I ran downstairs and was just like "you gotta start watching Dexter".
