Hehehe, thanks Tek...
I know this month we were suppose to go but with my new job and other things I've been super busy.

Hmmm....I tried to gather a few regulars (raid3n and cskc-7) to go this Sunday but I received an email that they were all booked solid.

I'll figure out something :p

Hmm... I'd like to give blood too actually... never done it before... how many vials do they usually collect?

Peanut Butter Jelly Time!
11-16-2007, 04:19 PM
well a couple of vials for testing then about 450mL for actual usage, but they actually measure it in grams... somewhere around 600 if i remember correctly. sounds like a lot, but it really isn't.

Gumby

...and the average person has 5 litres of blood in total. They take enough such that they suggest you avoid strenuous activity for 6-8 hours after donating.

after realizing how much donated blood means to a lot of people, i have decided to donate blood as well.
just lemme know when and where it's going to be, and i'll do my very best to go with you guys (too busy with school).
or if i can't join you guys, i'll just go get it done with my brother or something.

Will i be able to drive or ride a motorcycle after?

Peanut Butter Jelly Time!
11-19-2007, 10:19 PM
driving's really not a problem, I don't know about riding a motorcycle though, but it shouldn't be an issue either. i'm a pretty small person 5ft n 120ish lbs and i feel FINE after... no dizziness what-so-ever. so yeah BDY set a date, maybe we can do it in Dec. or sth for those who didn't go in Nov.

What_the?
11-20-2007, 12:47 AM
sweet! i'm free most of dec, so i'll try to make it! (away in vegas Dec. 10-14 tho)

Last time I went with school, I could only give like half of what I was supposed to fill up.

I seem to have reallllly low blood pressure, I didn't feel woozy or anything after, but it just seemed to take a really long time for any blood to come out so the nurse stopped it after I had barely filled up half.

Count me in! I was supposed to go last Saturday but couldn't due to a scheduling conflict. Was going to do it this Saturday, but I might as well switch it to Sunday and go with you guys.

Do we just make an appointment for 1:30 or just show up?

I think the appointment has already been made for Revscene. All the other times I've gone, I've went in, said I was with Revscene and they stuck me in the line-up for the iron testing.

Ah, OK. I figure they won't turn away anyone who's willing to give blood ;)

They called me last Thursday saying they were really low on blood, so for those who can give, please give! For those who haven't donated before, it's never too late.

I started donating after the gf was in a serious accident early last year. She required a large amount of blood and thanks to the blood bank, she was well taken care of and has made a full recovery. Ever since then, I've been going every 52 days, and have gotten most of my family in on donating. :)

That's awesome! Not that your girl was in an accident... that you are still donating and such. That's sort of my reason too, I was in a really bad accident when I was 10 and needed blood too, so that's one of the reasons I go. I also know a few cancer patients (I think it's cancer anyway) that need blood transfusions.

SO, RS got me back into donating blood. It was this drive that got me going. At that time, they couldn't get any blood to flow, so I ended up not giving. I didn't know to drink plenty of water before going.

Anyway, I went yesterday. This was my fourth time since the last RS blood drive. I thank you guys for organizing the event. I haven't seen one organized since. Yesterday, I got my Blood Services Olympic pin to go along with my red pin that says three on it. I asked about all the other pins they give out and holy carp, they had one with 450 on it. WTF? The volunteer girl said it was doable if you gave platelets and some other thing, as you can give those every two weeks rather than every 56 days for whole blood.

I see Revscene is not doing well as a group. Please donate, guys. It's in you to give.

MG1
05-22-2010, 10:42 PM
Went again today.

I inquired about Revscene being a member of partners for life. The receptionist said, "Yes, Revscene is still a partner. I then made sure my donation counted towards Revscene's numbers. I registered and logged on a few minutes ago and guess what? Revscene has a grand total of 1 for this year. That would be me. LOL.

Revscene, I'm disappoint.

Then again, I have a feeling why it's only at one. It's the questions they ask at the clinic.

Have you come in contact with a monkey........
Have you paid for sex in the last six months.........
Have you had sex with someone you don't know............
Have you had sex with a raging homosexual...........
Have you ever been treated for syphilis or gonorhea in the last six months..........

The thing that doesn't add up is, 3/4 of Revscene is made up of virgins, LOL.

All kidding aside, we need to bring that number up. One, is not acceptable.

To have your donation counted with Revscene, go to

www.blood.ca/partnersforlife

Our partner ID is

REVS008555 (those are zeros).

You have the option of having name and info kept a secret. So really guys, you have no excuse.

Macademia used to organize these, but she isn't around too much these days I don't think. Raid3n and I have talked about it with a couple other mods, I'll remind them :) I won't be able to donate but I can take pictures and offer support though!

Wow, we are doing really well. I just got this info from the folks over at Canadian Blood Services.

http://www.blood.ca/CentreApps/Internet/UW_V502_MainEngine.nsf/resources/RegionalReports/$file/pfl_bcy_partnerreport.pdf

Unless someone else has donated this year, that would be all me, LOL. I didn't notice any other car club, so we're doing really well and still number one!

Edit: To check the progress of our group, and others, search "progress report" on their web site.

Thanks for the info 89blkcivic! I donate regularly but didn't know how to make it count towards RS's numbers. I registered with the info you provided. Simple and took only 2 minutes to complete. I think I'm due for a donation sometime in the next month or so. Hopefully we can bump up those numbers.

Think about it this way...the blood you give could save could save a hot chick. Enough motivation yet? :D

They need hot registered nurses at the clinics. Raise the blood pressure a bit. I have yet to see a good looking nurse at that place. Come to think of it, I haven't seen any good looking donors there, either. I'm talking the clinic on Oak Street.

I wonder if we post a message on VOT, we would get more response. Perhaps a post to point people here. I really think it's good to organize a blood drive. Somehow tie it in with the summer meet?

Haha, no doubt. It doesn't help that they got grumpy old lady with the smokers voice greeting you when you first walk in the door at the Oak St branch.

There's one OK looking RN there but you're right - it's kind of slim pickings. I've seen a hot donor once...but to be honest, I've noticed it's mostly guys donating blood. Ratio of guys:girls donating seems to be about 4:1, although I can understand that depending on the timing, girls may fail the iron test at the start.

VOT might be a good start as you mentioned. Lots of activity there. I wonder if they have a mobile clinic? Maybe if we can get enough people to pledge to donate, they can send a mobile clinic out to one of the meets?

MG1
08-05-2010, 11:48 PM
Ahahahaha............ according to one of the RN's, that old bitty used to be one hot mama. I saw an old picture of her when she was young. Jesus, time has not been kind to her.

10-02-2010, 06:17 PM
Went today. Same ol same ol...........

On the way in, I saw a shiny, huge ass RV/trailer thing. It was a mobile blood center.

I inquired about it and they told me it was going out for the first time ever this coming week to UBC. I'm wAndering if we can book it for one of our car meets. I asked the nice lady inside and she said, as long as it is within 30 minutes of their location, it's a go.

The lady who poked me today and I got talking about how cots were set up in colleges back in the day. She told me they did that often when Red Cross was running the blood donation thingy. I guess Blood Services finally figured out that going to the people is the only way to drum up interest.

How about it RS mods? Do you think we can get enough interest for them to come out to one of our meets?

Judging by our donation count this year, the answer would probably be a big no. :(

It's 600mL if I remember correctly. It takes less than 10 minutes to fill up that small bag.

The mobile clinic was sitting out when I went to donate about 2 weeks ago. It would be great if they could come out to the meets but I think we'd probably want to get a rough headcount before having them go out because it would look REALLY bad if they drove all the way out and we only had a handful of donors show up.

What's our count at currently?

Awesome, dude. Feels good to give a part of yourself to save others, yes?

Did you receive a gold coloured, blood drop shaped, lapel pin?

You will get another one at 3, then 10, and so on. I was lucky to get a 2010 pin during my 4th donation. I have 4 more to go before getting the 10.

I'm proud of you, son.

Don't forget to have your donation count towards Revscene's pledge.

Didn't get no pin unfortunately, I got a 1st time doner sticker and a card with thanks. I'm still curious of what my blood type is gonna be.

It's just going on the site to get it counted towards RS right?

I felt so disgraceful being the only asian people there with my friends. We were there for over an hour and we were the only asian people and only young people. It's kinda sad that I only saw white people..

syee

Hmm...I never got my 1 and 3 pin. :D Just got my 10 pin when I went a few weeks ago. They give you the pin and fancy pin pad to stick your pins on.

You'll get used to the needle. It's just a matter of time before you won't even notice it. ;)

It does feel really good to know that you saved a life when you give. I noticed too the small minority of Asians there. I guess the culture doesn't lend itself very well to donating. I think they should do more education in the Asian community to tell them how it can benefit others and how the body can "regenerate" the blood that is given during a donation. My mom is pretty old school and is of the belief that once it's donated it's gone and your body doesn't regenerate new blood. It took a lot of explanation before she finally got it....

BTW, congrats on the donation! Registering through the page that 89blkcivic listed above should make it count. Too bad I didn't know about it earlier - could have added a few more donations to the tally. My last donation was the first one that counted towards RS...

Well, the gauze & tape I leave on for an hour or two after they take the blood. I'll throw the band aid on for the rest of the day and then just ditch it when I take a shower at night. After that, it's pretty much clotted to the point it won't bleed again so I just leave it open.

I'm not trying to be an ass but that's too long of a wait to just give some blood.

10-13-2010, 05:21 AM
Making an appointment ahead of time will help reduce the wait time. You should be done in just under an hour. An hour of your time to save three lives is not much of a sacrifice. Just pretend you're on RS and your time won't seem like such a waste. LOL.

Also, try to go during non peak times, like one and a half hours after opening on a Saturday, or a Saturday during a long weekend when a lot of people are out of town.

Not really racist!
10-13-2010, 03:57 PM
1 hour is about the average time..

It's a tiny bit longer when you're a new donor.

They were running low on staff for the day so they told us there would be delays (we made appointments). First I had to confirm appointment at the front desk and then do the application process with another person, then I had to answer questions. After that was done, it was already close to 20 mins. All the seats were being used so I waited an additional 20 mins before I finally got placed and began the donation. The setup / donating / resting / refreshment were about another 20 mins. Keep in mind it was only this busy because it was the end of a long weekend and they were low on staff.

Theres no excuse not to go donate blood because you think an hour is too long. You can surf on RS for a couple hours everyday and you can't even spend an hour donating blood and saving lives?

I think there is a time limit. Not exactly sure, but the questions on the form goes someting like, "Have you had a tattoo in the last six months?"

I love the questions they ask..........short of asking you if you had sex with a frickin' monkey. "Have you come in contact or work with monkeys or their bodily fluids?" I chuckle each time I come across that one.

If its within a certain amount of time before the donation (6 months I think) they will deny you. I have a tattoo and have previously given blood. Oops, 89 beat me to it.

i always laugh at that too.
I remember the first time i gave blood she asked me "did you have sex with someone who's sexual past you didn't know."
and i said yes, as that was the truth, and she kept asking the question in different words until i said no hahaha.

I love the questions they ask..........short of asking you if you had sex with a frickin' monkey. "Have you come in contact or work with monkeys or their bodily fluids?" I chuckle each time I come across that one.

Quick explanation on the monkey question, because monkeys, prosimians and apes are our closest genetic relatives humans are more likely to contract a disease from them than other animals. Its believed that AIDs originated in humans as a result of eating gorilla bush meat.

Do you guys know of a clinic in Abby or Langley to donate blood?
I spend more time there than I do in Surrey, but all the ones I know of are in churches, which makes me a bit uncomfortable.

Good to hear we got a steady stream of folks from RS donating. It's the season for giving, and nothing feels better than to give someone the gift of life. Best of all, it doesn't cost you anything other than an hour of your time.

Unfortunately blood is always in high demand around any holiday period. The more that we can donate, the more lives that can be saved.

Went again last week.

Need one more to get my 10 donation lapel pin.

So far this calendar year, Revscene has 1 donation. That would be me. They didn't have last year's report available on-line. Did anyone ever see how much we had by end of December 2010? We have a pledge of 15 this year. 14 more to go. Time to roll up the sleeves, people.

Went in today and apparently they just implemented a new booking computer system. I'm guessing it wasn't working properly because it looked like it seriously overbooked the time I went in. I was scheduled for 3:10pm and I got there at 2:50. I didn't get out of there till 4:45 and even then there was another 5-6 people they had to do.

In any case, that's one donation done...next appointment, April.

MG1
02-13-2011, 09:01 PM
I agree. The last RS blood drive kind of proves that. However, if it was part of the summer meet and people knew it would be at that event/location ahead of time, non-members might go there to donate. Attach prizes or giveaways to the blood drive and make it a focus this year?

Attaching a giveaway may be a good incentive for cheap Asians to donate blood. Is there some Feng Shui thing that keeps Asians from donating? Perhaps we should advertise giving blood is good luck - colour of blood being red and all. We all know the Chinese love the colour red. Throw in long life and prosperity while we're at it.

Prizes/giveaways should not be too big or else it will attract too many C-Lai's, LOLOLOLOL.

OK, the more I think about it, you're right. Bad Idea.

EDIT: Ok, the last RS blood drive wasn't a bad thing. It got me excited about donating, and I have been doing it every 56 days since.

I'd have to agree. I'd feel bad if they drove their mobile unit out there and only 4 or 5 people showed up.

I'm not sure what the stigma is with Asians and giving blood. I can perhaps understand the older generation and C-Lai's not giving blood because they don't know better/superstitious. However, the younger generation should be more educated and well aware of the benefits of giving blood. I can tell you from talking to my mom about it, she seems to be of the belief that your body doesn't regenerate blood after donating. I've told her that's not the case, and she's slowly catching on but it's stuff like this that you probably don't notice as much of the older generation of Asians donating blood. It's also a similar story with organ donation with Asians.

That said, in the last few years I've been giving blood, I've noticed more and more Asians at the clinic when I've gone which is a good thing. I've also noticed quite a few hot girls donating too if that's any incentive for some people ;)

MG1
02-13-2011, 09:43 PM
The organ thing, I can totally understand. You cannot convince people to give up a part of their body after death. The blood thing is something education can change. My mom has no problem with it. In fact, she just thinks it's a simple procedure. In and out, done.

Hot chicks, yes. It makes the time go a lot faster. I just wish the nurses there were a little better looking. Nice as they are personality wise............

BTW, I recall going to some Asian mall where people were given brochures on donating blood - how safe and harmless it was. They had some statistics up on presentation boards. How many Chinese people donated and how many required blood. Not sure how successful it was. Younger generation for sure catch on.

MindBomber
02-14-2011, 08:19 PM
When they brought the model unit to UBC the wait was a couple hours long to donate, I'm sure people would be happy to donate if it was made convenient enough. If there is a legitimate concern that people won't donate lets start a poll to get an answer of who would.

You basically go there and fill out forms and answer a battery of questions. They just want to know that your blood is good to give. As in no aids, weird monkey diseases, etc.

They ask you pointed questions, like have you been to prison, had sex with hookers, touched monkeys and their fluids, etc. They also screen you for these things via sample of your blood. If you have aids or whatever, they will notify you and the authorities. If you have nothing to hide, then you're good to go.

You don't need an appointment, but it helps. When you get to reception they will give you a folder with your info on it. Since you are new, they will ask you for ID to make sure you are who you say you are. They will put you into their database and prick you to see if your blood has enough iron.

You then go to a booth to fill in the top half of a long ass, fill in the square type questionnaire. After that, you wait for a nurse to take you into an interview room to ask you the weird questions. They take your body temperature and blood pressure. They then give you a couple of stickers. One that is a "Yes" and one that is a, "No. " These stickers are barcoded and look similar. The nurse leaves while you put whichever sticker you choose onto the form (you discard the unused sticker into the garbage can). I believe your blood will be taken either way and nobody, including the nurse, will know except for the people who check the paperwork later if it's a yes or a no.

Before you go and give blood, make sure you have eaten and drink plenty of water. Water fattens up your veins, so they can find it easier. Avoid caffeine, as it shrinks the veins -- that's what I was told, so no coffee or coke.

It's good that you want to give blood. I hope you go through with it. Let us know and you will get thanks by the regular RS blood donors. We will welcome you to the elite club, LOL.

What 89blkcivic said. :D

All in all, it takes about an hour from beginning to end. They take about 600mL of blood from you. Your body contains about 6L of blood so it's not a huge amount by any means.

When you get up off the seat, try to get up slowly Sit yourself on the side of the chair and make sure you feel OK before you actually stand on your feet.

It actually isn't that bad, but it's good to take some precautions if you've never donated before and are unsure of how your body will handle it.

I'm a diabetic (type II) and one day, I gave blood without having eaten anything in the morning. After I gave blood, I felt dizzy - my blood sugar level must have been super low. Almost passed out, in fact. I made it to the rest area and ate as fast as I could. Not thinking straight, I headed to the washroom. I rested there until my lightheadedness went away. I avoided some embarrassment there. Fricken passing out in public after giving blood. Sheesh........... would have looked like a big pansy.

The washrooms there are like those in hospitals. They have emergency cords in case you have difficulty, so it was all good.

Wow, it's been dead in here.

I finally went today. This will be number 11.

Well, technically number 12. Number 11 went all wrong. Dude couldn't get any blood out of me. I think he was like a rookie. Anyway, they called in their best today and sure enough she got it out. Apparently, I have very tough veins. Just have to jam the sucker in harder to get the juice. Anyway hurt more than usual, but it was all good. Not bad looking blonde next to me. I wasn't gonna cry in front of her, LOL.

There were lots of young people in today. A lot of first timers, which was good. The ad campaign worked. Over half, I say, were Asian. Awesome.

It was so busy today, they turned a few people away. You definitely had to have an appointment today. I actually went in without one at around 11:00 am and was told to come back at 2:15. I was fortunate a person canceled.

They will be open on Monday. They tell me it is usually very quiet on holidays. If any RS members have been sitting on the fence, it's a really good time to go. Like they say, "Blood - It's in You to Give!."

EDIT: The clinic that's open on Monday is the one on Oak and 33rd. I'm not sure if any other locations are open this holiday Monday. And, be sure to call for an appointment.

That last one was nasty. The girl who did me was not good.

This time I got a nice looking gal. Blonde with light complexion. She had very nice, soft touch. Sent shivers up my spine when she ran her fingers up and down my arm to see where she could stick me with............. the needle.

I was done in under 8 minutes. I think she raised my blood pressure quite a bit. I love women who tie their hair up to expose their neckline.

Anyway, I usually have some bruising on the arm, but this time, there's nothing. She could have drained me dry and wouldn't have noticed.

Dumbass me. I didn't even ask for her name. She's the only good looking nurse there. Well, there is this tall dark haired chick who loves wearing high heels. She's not bad, I guess.

This time around, there were lots of Asians at the clinic. One Asian lady who was in her 60's was giving blood.

Did number 15 today. Ended up with the nurse who gave me the bruise the last time she did me. Blondie (chick with the soft touch) was on the platelet side of the building today (damn). Almost had a room full of Asians today. One combo breaker kind of spoiled it. Had one Asian chick almost pass out. Looked like first timer. Probably didn't eat before coming to the clinic. They had the crash cart out and everything. Even mom and dad came in. Turned out she just felt a little weak. Attention whore, LOLOLOLOL.

Another fast one. Was in and out of there in 45 minutes. Took 7-1/2 minutes to fill the bag. Not bad for an old fart closing in on 60. I plan to give till I'm 90. Probably won't get the 100 donor pin, but at least try for the 50.

Did you ever receive a "3" pin? I thought I had one. I think I lost it.

Anyway, I wear my "10" pin with pride. Certificates are given out at 50, along with the cards.

Just had the worst experience ever donating blood today. The nurse that took my blood stuck the needle in at a bend and it hurt like shit.

Describe the nurse, please. If I see him or her, I'm going to request a different person.

There's this one male nurse who couldn't get at the vein. After two tries in each arm, he had to call it quits and I went home without donating blood. So miffed. I saw him the last time I went and he knew he should't spoil my day again. My veins are very tough and when a needle tries to break through, the vein moves out of the way. One nurse told me keeping the arm as straight as possible 'cause it makes poking you easier.

I think I mentioned this before, but the nurses always tell people to drink lots of water before donating and stay away from caffeine. Water plumps up the veins and caffeine shrinks them. Shrinkage is always a bad thing.

The_Situation
02-22-2012, 11:46 PM
I had plenty of water during the day. It's just that the vein they always choose to take is right on the inner elbow where naturally for me there is a bend.
The other nurses I've had before had no trouble taking blood out of that vein, but this one had a hard time. She was the older filipino lady

the name of my favorite phlebotomist is Roshan (learned this today).. how lucky was i!! i was about to get the lady who poked my friend and wiggled it around, and my friend looked like she got her arm caught in a car door 2 weeks later!!
then my savior, some random tech came up and nodded to her so she was like 'IM ON MY BREAK!' and Roshan stepped in and got it done for me.

i was more than happy, that lady is so gentle and she's the only one in that place who can feel my veins right.

Went on Saturday my 21st time. Took just under 6 minutes to get a full bag. Stayed off the Diet Coke all day because of the caffeine content and drank three bottles of water instead before going. Seemed to do its job, as they had no problem getting the vein. Usually my veins roll around under the skin making it difficult for them to poke it. Caffeine causes shrinkage, while water plumps up the viens making them juicy.

Lots of young people there today giving blood.

That's one way to look at it, but............. universal donors can give to anyone, while O- can only give to their own kind. In any case, we are all brothers in the crusade to save lives.

If anything, I hate the thought that our blood is being used to save some dumbass who takes risks by doing really dumb stuff, like stunts. I'd rather have my blood used to save those who have no choice...... innocent victims or people who need blood because of a disease.

BC is running dangerously low on its blood supply | News1130 (http://www.news1130.com/2013/06/02/bc-is-running-dangerously-low-on-its-blood-supply/)

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They need your blood!

The Canadian Blood Services says it needs 6,000 new donors to sign up in the next six weeks to meet patient demand.

Marcelo Dominguez with the organization says June and July are tricky months since so many people take holidays.

“The need for blood is just constant. Blood is like milk, it expires, and so we’re in a situation where we are regularly needing to encourage people to book appointments to come in and donate and make it part of their activities every other month.”

The organization is about to activate its Blood Signal which is only used during times of great need. Anyone looking to help out can book a time to give online.

I will be going in sometime this week or next week

dont think it's really shock because i dont even look when they draw the blood, so it could be because of the fasting before hand?

First donation: You HAVE to eat before donating blood.
They deferred me first time I was donating because I ate 2h before my donation appointment.
Must be a filling meal too.

If you feel dizzy i/they won't recommend you donating blood.

Got differed last week because my hemoglobin was too low :(

Did #24 last Saturday. One more for the pin!

Eating before donating is so important. One time, I didn't eat before going. After donating, I felt dizzy. I hung in there until I reached the bathroom - it was a struggle not to look like a whimpy Asian. I sat on the toilet to recuperate. After gathering enough energy to get up, I headed for the little lunchroom to eat and drink their cookies and juice. Always ate plenty before going after that ordeal.

Also, drink plenty of water to plump up those veins. No caffiene at all as it shrinks the veins, making it hard to extract the blood let alone find a good source.

The donors you meet at the clinic are really friendly - I guess because they are caring and giving individuals. Never seen a miserable person there.

The staff are a pretty happy bunch, too. This is the clinic on Oak Street, BTW. I have not donated anywhere else.

MeowMeow....... women tend to have low hemoglobin and I've seen more than a few get deferred because of it.

Hondaracer, being diabetic, I do those fasting blood tests once in a while. Its tough, for sure. I force myself to relax, because being stressed out (anxiety) makes things way worse. Believe it or not, I get blood drawn from the back of my hand. Sounds gross, but because of the location, they have to use those thinner butterfly needles. Way less painful. They don't like to use the butterfly needles because it costs more.

Not really racist!

Oak Street clinic never disappoints me as well...

People who donated under RS's partner ID should and still be in the system as a member, you may check next time you donate but from my understanding they only took off the old reps so they don't get confused on who to contact.

Sorry I should have been more clear, I meant delete everyone as in previous rs reps which was bellydanceryuna and I think jace. People who donated under RS's partner ID should and still be in the system as a member, you may check next time you donate but from my understanding they only took off the old reps so they don't get confused on who to contact.

Leopold Stotch- I hope this answered your question--if not please let me know.

I finally reached the 25 milestone. Got my 25 pin and they said I will get a new donor card in the mail. It is supposed to be really fancy.

I started donating while I was in college, but stopped after a year or so. If I had continued, I estimate my count to be over 250 by now. Far cry from 25. So, you young ones out there, get into donating blood. "It's in you to give!"

Has anyone considered donating platelets instead of just whole blood?

I would love to, but I cannot, since I have diabetes. I am AB positive and they really need that type (universal donor type).

I thought O neg was the universal donor, and AB+ can only give to AB+, but can accept from everyone

Deja Vu........

You're right. AB+ people can get blood from anyone (universal recipient), hee hee....... I mean, Yay!!!!

AB+ is rare in that only 2.5% of Canadians are my type. AB- is uber rare at 0.5% of Canadians.

Check out distribution of blood types by country.......interesting.

Higher percentage of AB+ blood in Asians, by the looks of it.

Japan 9.9%

Mind you, Hungary is 2nd with 8%, with Turkey coming in third with 7.2%

India, HK, Taiwan all at around 6 to 6.5% range.

i'm going to hit 20 soon and to be honest, if you make time for it, you'll just go.

i now go every 52 days + or whatever the number of days are. I book 6 appointments in advance AND i get to choose what time I want. I go at 1 PM, first one to get there, first one to get served and I'm in and out of there within an hour. I love it. Congrads to those who is also making an effort.

again, it's free, you have it in your body and DAMN, you get free mango juice and all the cookies youwant.....

I hit 25 last time and was promised a really cool ID card. I haven't received it in the mail yet. Gonna call them to see what's taking so long. Now that I have the 25 pin, I have to wait till the next level......... 50!

I think they should have milk there............. goes with the Oreo's. Mango juice and cookies, not a great combo.

I would like a free massage or foot rub when giving blood, LOL. Hell, even free WiFi would be a welcome bonus.

You are actually right. For platelets and plasma it's actually reverse of red cells. AB being the universal donor and platelets only have a shelf life of 5 days.

Usually by appointment but sometimes they try to squeeze you in if it's not too busy

Had the worst damn experience the last time I went. The nurse kept adjusting the needle in and out of my arm because there wasnt enough flow.... Felt like she poked a tendon or something. They had to ice my arm after because it was swollen..

Not going back to the oak street location.

I went last weekend and the only difference I saw was that they stuck the labels on when you're inside the room rather than when they're taking your blood. It honestly felt like maybe an extra 2 minutes...

Not really racist!

Princess, you and I can go together next time. I go to the Oak Street location and it is always smoother at that location. Almost as smooth as me, LOLOLOLOL.

Then I can say.............. "MeowMeow Spotted," and actually not be McLyin'
