Kintaro Closed
I drove past there yesterday, and i noticed that there were newspapers covering the windows. are they moving or renovating? or closing period?
on a side note - their sister place just half a block away had a decent lineup outside.

if they are doing renovations.. why did they tell everyoen to go down 30 steps to a new ramen shop down the block
this new ramen shop is no good !! no more cheese ramen.. but instead.. they have a spicey miso..
um.. it taste like a korean hotpot soup with kimchi and ramen noodles... not so good IMO.
and on the new menu.. it doesn't say hand made.. which makes you wonder if they are just um... using pre bought stuff !!!

Geeze...whats the deal with Kintaro in Richmond. They are closed and all....but it was a piss off that they weren't open for lunch during the weekdays.
Lazy staff.

its not lazy staff.
they do not have FULL time staff work. most fo the girls have classes at some ESL school and it's hard to find someone that's pure japanese to work.
that's just my guess.

it's the same company - i'm pretty sure. try their bbq meat special ramen or something - the one that comes with 2 types of meat. one of them tastes amazing. but ya, no cheese makes me sad.

Some of their employees in the Richmond location were chinese from what I remember. They know the more common japanese words though.

really ??? my gf had the spicey miso.. and i had the salted one.. um... too salty.. and did u find the noodles to taste different ?
i thought the noodles were pretty much the same. it's hard though, unless you're comparing them side by side.
to be honest - i still like the old old kintaro noodles. they changed their noodles to a slightly thinner, chewier one a year or two back.

motomachi shokudo is the new ramen place. supposedly opened by kintaro. it's a healthier alternative, no msg, etc etc.

It seems the people who wait in line for Kintaro ends up going to Benkei..
kintaro > motomachi > benkei. benkei has decent shio but the miso is so bland. dislike the cha siu they use as well. their onigiri is good however.

I really like it at first but it becomes way too hard to eat later on. Sits heavy in your stomach too.

What's disappointing is that noodle/ramen restaurant that used to be on Thurlow and Alberni St. (next to McDonalds) is closed and now is some other joint.
^Do you mean Noodle Express?? Last time I went in the Feb, the name was the same but the menu was totally different.
