future shop/best buy

Is it possible for me to apply for jobs at future shop or best buy if i have no work experience or do i really have to apply elsewhere like working at mcdonald's first?

I know in interviews they ask questions about your past work experiences but if you don't have any, what do you say?

You do any volunteer work or group work at school? Sometimes you can use that experience when giving situational examples.

if you lie on your resume and they find out, they can fire you on the spot, regardless of whether you've been there 3 days or 3 years.

Starting wage for an Entertainment Associate is $9.00 and for a Merchandiser is $10.00, if you've got decent movie/music/gaming/software knowledge apply to Entertainment, if not, apply for a merchandising position.. they do most of the stocking and help carry out air conditioners/tvs/etc.

Both my buddy and I applied for Futureshop and Bestbuy, both having experience with computers/games/electronics/etc... and work exp. Neither of us even got called for an interview. That was a few years ago though, he's finishing up a network admin at BCIT, and I'm a programmer.

I guess it's just try, personality and first impressions are key

forgot smile,

i say as long as you fill out the online interview correctly and they like you during the interview process, then you definitely have a good chance at getting the job

yeah bestbuy in lansdowne was a great work place for me. worked in the computer dept and everyone seems very friendly. i really enjoyed working there. while there are definitely sales goal for each day, it's ok if you dont meet it, they dont really fire people if you dont perform well; they'll just move you to another dept.

Naw, dont need any experience... just be up do date on new tech/entertainment shit
The best buy / futureshop in the robson or cambie area are allways hiring.
And during seasonal employment all locations tend to hire anyone..

most of the locations are full, but as i said, cambie n robson are the ones that seem to allways be hiring, in my oppinion..

if your going for sales, best buy>>>futureshop.. i hate the whole commisioned sales deal at futureshop... alot of the regular sales staff @ fs were assholes and take advantage of the new guy. bestbuy has non commisioned sales.. less stress.
Merchandising is pretty easy too.. on the odd days u can just walk around n act busy, while not doing nehting productive..

Did you end up reporting him to a manager? I know you guys both work for the same company but the manager should know when one of their staff isn't doing his job properly.

honda_h2o, Staff purchase must be processed at the front ( but he still must get you the correct product obviously), and depending on price, manager's ID will be needed. That is just SOP

Regarding mr85, experience isn't a huge factor, if it is merchandising role, so landing a job with no experience will not be a problem

if you are trying to land a Product expert job, if you have no experience that is fine, make sure you have decent knowledge on variety of technologies. And some proof to show that you are very good with talking to strangers, helping people...etc

Generally if you even worked at McDonalds, you would not exactly need much knowledge on products, because you will go through training.

All subjective to manager's decision, plus whether they are in desperate need for part timers. Full timers, almost always will have to be good all around.

Because even if you are not very bright, part timers always takes the worst shifts 5-9 where not many customers are in.

that's all i can say....i got hired @ bestbuy burnaby last christmas....but they were so freaking busy at that time they couldn't even give me a code so i can check stock for ppl.....and they didn't even tell me that i'm no longer needed after my period of work is done.....personally i won't go back there...but if it is your first job or smth....it will be a great exp for you!!~~

Haha you know last christmas, I volunteered from the office to help out at the Lanesdowne location for Boxing Day..so like I arrived on the scene around 5am.. I was like WTF? the line up for BBY was like around the corner all the way to Zellers side. When it came to opening...i was getting tired and restless just seeing all the ppl stampede into the mall and all I did was greet hahaha...reminds me why i should stick to working in a cubicle and not on the floor.
