: best places to get a haircut in the vancouver/richmond/burnaby

ok, so i have a predicament: i need to find a new place to cut my hair. my current hairdresser has got skill but leaves a lot to improve on in terms of customer service. like a lot of ppl on RS, i'm asian, in my early 20s, and have short hair. some feedback with your personal favourite places would be great, just be sure to at least include the name of the place, location, and price.

P.S. for all others who aren't in the same demographic, your 2 cents would be appreciated as well.

Vancouver - Chura on West Hastings and Burrard (i think)$20-$40
Richmond - Zeal @ Aberdeen $40-$45, Air on No. 3 Rd. (don't know the price though.)

I myself has only been to Chura and Zeal, Air was pretty good according to a few friends

For a good professional hair cut and styling, go see my buddy Tim. He's a professional and currently located on W.Broadway named Markus J Hair and Wellbeing. Placed first at the 2007 Men's Hair cutting competition in Vancouver and is currently competing in other competitions to showcase all of my designs. He also just competed last week and came 2nd in Vancouver.

Tell him Bryan sent you for a good deal. Do take note that he is a stylist so he charges a bit more than the average $25 haircut.

down side to downtown places, if u drive, parking cost like 5 bucks at least..

i recommend Misako, Chura also.. good prices, staff, and they dont rush their jobs even if it is a hair cut for men

I used to think so too but getting a cut at a salon was way better.

Besides, can't argue with having a cute girl massage your head for half an hour.

Umm my stylist spoke sorta broken english but we could still communicate pretty clearly. Really depends who you get, a good percentage of the stylists at Ark speak decent english though imo.

Btw does chura throw in the massages? I never got one there unless you meant when they're washing/drying your hair. Ark actually throws in like a short massage for you.

I DID spend 8 bucks, but that was when my hair was short, and that previous barber cut it the same way every single time. Its a freaking chinese place that doesnt even understand a flying fuck of what i'm trying to tell her... so i gave up. Pardon my french.

She doesn't know how to deal with longer, asian hair, so i'll try a different place. You guys suggested Chura, but is there a particular person I should get?

Supposingly Chura's good and it's relatively cheap. like 25 bucks. they're japanese hairstylists.

back from "blue hair design", worst cut in ~3 years..fucking terrible. will update later

If you must get it done in Burnaby save yourself from a bad haircut and at least go to MISAKO

Had this hair cut done before so I know what it should look like. Picked a short style out of a book and it when I was done looked NOTHING LIKE IT AT ALL. The style book is in Japanese and place is Korean so of course they cannot read it.

The cut was 90% razor/buzzer 10% scissor, as opposed to 100% scissor and touchups with razor/buzzer at Japanese places.

This means no texture/layering or “lightness”, they use the same technique done at places on Victoria drive & Kingsway. Did not even do angle cuts/squiggly scissors to thin out the hair.

The hair in the back at the base of your head was also cut off, when these cuts are supposed to leave it, and it was in the picture as well.

They did not offer me to read magazines or at least have some put out in front like they do at places like CHURA

The bib they put in front of you is way to short and you will get hair on your shoes/pants. When they took off the bib they did not attempt to prevent hair did not get on your shoes/pants like they do at Japanese places.

They did not even bring up a mirror at the end to show me my hair from the side & back

There is 1 person who cuts and 1 person who stands/hovers to the side and watches you as the person cuts your hair.. very uncomforting

also as opposed to wash -> cut -> rinse/wash -> touchup (if necessary) -> style at JP places
it is cut -> wash -> style

paid $20 for a $6 cut they managed to mess up
I WILL NEVER GO BACK THE ONLY GOOD POINT IS MY HAIR WILL GROW BACK

where can i go to get a decent haircut for $25 or under?
i live in coquitlam, so im ok with going to burnaby, but id rather not travel downtown to get a cut.

im used to going to BlueHairDesigns, and had a decent experience with Taka, but wouldnt mind trying out a new place.

bump for any new suggestions?

Chura Aletta. New smaller Chura salon, south van on Granville. The master stylist moved there from the DT location, been cutting my hair for years.

How far ahead do you book? I remember with Chura in downtown you had to book at least 2 weeks in advance

My goto stylist is this one stylist at Poppy (Kitsilano).

They are on the expensive side ($40+) but amazing service. Have to make appointment in advance.

I would suggest try a few stylists if you don't like it the first time, hair styling is pretty personal and the stylist have to be willing to put in the effort, moreso for complex styles.

My new favourite place is 18th Amendment in Gastown. About $40 a haircut, sick fades there and the guys are pretty awesome. My new favourite Barber Shop. (Went to JDs before)

This place is awesome, you can even order beer and have a drink in there LOL

The guy Tony cuts my hair there.

Best thing is they give you the hot towel treatment. Feels amazing and relaxing after a fresh cut.
