Tao Heung 88 for Dim Sum
This is my usual spot for afternoon tea dim sum (still go less than once a month though). It seems to have gone downhill since the last time I went. The dumpling skins were thicker than I remember, and the siu lung bao was pretty whack (no ginger, used red vinegar).

The one I go to is near my home in Kwun Tong. They are everywhere. There has to be at least 30 locations. At one point they had 2 in one mall (they built a new one, but kept the old one open for a while)!
Their curry beef brisket used to be really good, but that's about it. Eventually, even that started sucking.

HKYK Hotpot in Richmond
Service was so fucking shitty. Servers were always nowhere to be found when we needed them. There were times where we would just sit there with no food and no soup because the soup was all boiled up.
I understand that with AYCE that you can't expect the best service but there was a time during our dinner where we waited over 10 minutes before we could find somebody and that was because I had to yell at them to come over.
Never going back there again.

Felicos in Richmond, a big thumbs down... 5/10
haven't been back since they had renovated so thought i'd give this place a shot again, i was seated at 7pm and by 8:30 all i had was bread, granted they had a big party and it was busy that night, but an hour and a half without even an appetizer is a bit ridiculous. i had their lamb pie which was made with a philo (filo?) like shell but the damn thing tasted like chalk, i ended up only eating the filling. the service was alright, there was this hot asian chick who was serving us, petite with a tight bod.. the only perk of the night. i was sitting by the bar table and i assume this restaurant was run by a family, as there appeared to be a mother, father and at least 2 boys, the bartender being one of the sons, all quite unprofessional and were loudly discussing about other tables that they didn't like overall, don't think i'll be going back.

Food was great, although the samosas left something to be desired, the Seekh Kebab, and Tandoori chicken were pretty good, especially the Seekh kebab (coming from a Filipino point of view)
The Butter chicken was awesome with their naan (sp?) 10/10...
The place was empty though (granted it was 7:00pm on a Monday) so the atmosphere left something to be desired.
Damn that filled me up really good... more full than a night at Posh... Will come back again.

shittiest dinner ive had in a long time. i will NEVER go back.
WAY over priced for what it is.
paid tooo much for something that isnt even special. and its not like the portions are big either.
waitress didnt even know how to pour from a pitcher! spilt a good quarter glass on sangria on to the carpet in front of the table. then she moved to behind the pillar to continue pouring!
ridiculously over priced.

seriously, i would not recommend ANYONE to try Also.
you can easily get the same food at Cactus Club for example, which in my opinion tastes way better than the way they make it at Also.
its way over priced for chinese made westernized food.
i give it 2/10 for the decoration. 1 for the dining room, and the other for the washroom.
service was just annoying. stupid waitress kept coming over to ask if we were ok, and when i asked her a question, she didnt know the answer to. this happened 3 times when she had to ask someone else in the back somewhere.
Horrible.
wealthier people coming over from asia countries should not open restaurants without doing enough market research and research in general before considering themselves a higher dining.
some of the prices on the menu was just ridiculous. for the price, i could have dined at Maccaroni Grill.
i've always been curious about that place whenever i drove by
but it was never very appealing from the outside
George Lounge (Yaletown) - 8.5/10
Did wine, cocktails and appies...it would have been better if I had gone with a smaller group say 4 ppl max.

After my shitty experience at McDonalds a couple weeks ago with the Shogun burger, I decided to go back for a "3 Leung Burger" also known as a Double Quarter Pounder.
McDonalds in Hong Kong only serves this burger at their 24 hour locations (which are plentiful) but only after 9pm! It's fucking retarded that if we want to eat a disgusting 1000 calorie burger, that is has to be so late at night. They seem to be marketing it to the after-clubbing crowd. Oh well, I guess it will help keep the cravings down ;)
Anyway, it was just as good as the double quarter pounders I used to pig out on when I was 210 lbs. Fatty, greasy, and beefy with nothing to take away from the flavour other than cheese and some ketchup. Perfect! I could barely finish it though... My appetite isn't what it used to be, especially after 9pm!
10/10 The Perfect McDonalds Burger
Prima Taste on Robson - right next to the H Mart on seymour.
great place - 9/10 for me. went there for my friend's going away dinner. had the malaysian roti, and skewers to start. then shared some hainanese chicken, lamb curry, and eggplant to share between 4 of us on the table. paid $28 a person including the service charge, and i was extremely full.
interestingly enough, it wasn't very packed in the restaurant. maybe only half-full. maybe word of it just hasn't reached many people. i thoroughly enjoyed myself, service was pretty good as well. if you like going to tropika - this place is 10x better.

Tropika in Richmond (Aberdeen Centre) - 7 / 10 Better than average to good depending on the dish. Pinapple fried rice was good as was some green bean veg dish. Rendeng beef tasted more like a beef curry though it was still tasty. Curry sauce that came with the Roti was average - watery and weak in flavor. I would go back again to try more and see if I can find what they excel at. Let me know if anyone knows exactly what these guys do best.

8.5/10 - Vietnamese sandwiches are great. Also has tasty curry and beef stew. Ice coffee is also delicious here, better than I've had at other Vietnamese spots. Everything I've tried so far has been awesome.

Went there with my dad for father's day. i had the lunch combo A for 7.95, and he had the lamb tebouyaki for 17.95. we also shared an order of toro sashimi. my food came really fast while his came almost 20 minutes later. food was okay, the tebouyaki was pretty impressive, as it was served and cooked on a ceramic plate on top of jelly fire. the looks of the place was definitely better than the food.

Im a white guy who likes to eat korean food and this is the best place ive found so far. The staff is very nice and the food is always awesome. When i go there i usually order the spicy pork hot pot. On the lunch menu it costs 7.99 for the dish but it also comes with lots of those small appetizers. By the time me and my g/f are full, we almost never end up paying more than $20.00 in total. It has some korean name to it but i dont know what it is. The food always arrives quickly and has never dissapointed me.

9/10 - i asked the server what his favourite was, since i was too familiar with greek food already. he refered me to the Kleftico. its pretty much lamb that is basted in a mustard stew and it was really good. the meat fell off the bone and the mustardy flavour worked really well. tasted better than stepho's roast lamb. however, the 16.95 didn't beat stepho's 8.95. service was pretty good, since i discovered my friend works there now.

Sui Sha Ya - Lansdowne
1/10
I was in Richmond at an awkward time where lots of Japanese places were closed until dinnertime. I think it was like 4:15pm? I decided I would go for Sui Sha Ya. I should have just waited the extra hour to go anywhere else but there. Every single thing we ordered was DISGUSTING. The spicy sashimi was covered in this creamy mayo-based sauce that tasted...westernized Chinese? And don't even get me started on the Oyster Motoyaki. I don't know what the fuck they put in the cheese but it was the most disgusting taste. I would compare it to the taste of gargling very concentrated salt water. The sushi was comparable to T&T. The only thing that wasn't terrible was the cold noodle, which by the way, is similar to the one my mom buys at Osaka Supermarket in Yaohan.

Coast Restaurant in Yaletown - 10/10
Food: For a starter we had the Dungeness crab cake, best I've tried so far, little crust on the outside and very creamy when you bite into it. For the main course, I had prawn and scallops with a thai coconut risotto with red curry. It was excellent, big juicy pieces of prawn and scallop, cooked to perfection and just seasoned lightly (the way I like it). Risotto was also great, curry flavour was mild enough to give some kick but not too much as to overpower the dish, texture was just right as well. They also had bok choy in there, which didn't really feel right, could've found something a bit more interesting to add to the dish.
My date had the sablefish and it was incredible, buttery melt in your mouth white fish......omg.....
Service: Exceptional, with a smile everytime and came to ask us how we were quite frequently. Also made recommendations to us.

Steveston Seafood House - 8/10
Food: I had the Jonathan Livingston seafood, which is a combination of salmon, halibut, baked oysters and a skewer of onions, peppers and scallops. All topped on some wild rice. A pretty good meal that was perfectly satisfying. Fish was just tender enough, and the seasoning was just right. I've had better (see Coast restaurant review), but the price is lower so it's what you'd expect.
My gf had the fire grilled halibut, which was pretty much the same as my plate, a piece of halibut over rice, so perhaps they lack creativity, will have to go more often to see.
Service: With a smile and pleasant attitude, came to check on us a couple times, which was enough.

I've been living in North Langley for 16 or so years. I drive by this Japanese restaurant on the way home from Vancouver whenever I decide to take the 176th Street exit off Hwy 1 instead of the usual 200th exit. It's a little place called Midori on 96th Avenue. They are never open when I drive by 'cause they close at like 2 pm or something like that and they are not open on weekends. I swore that before I move from Langley, I'll go to that restaurant. Well two weeks ago, I went there with my wife and two of my kids. All I can say is, I never thought Japanese food can be that butchered. I mean, I've been to all kinds of so called Japanese restaurants run by people other than Japanese and most of them are OK. This one was by far, the worst one I've ever been to. I thought Grand Buffet sushi was blech, but this place took the cake. It was all you can eat, so I was prepared for bad. When you prepare for bad and you get worse, it's tragic. I don't think any of you would find this place if you wanted to, but if you ever come across it, keep driving. One good thing is, I did not get food poisoning. The people there were OK and seemed very decent, but holy wasabi, the food was sub par. 2/10 rating.
Lesson I learned long ago, but forgot that day: No go to Asian restaurant where no Asian customer is in sight.

He was Asian, so there goes that theory. I think if the chef were a Jamaican it would have tasted better. It's a joke in my family now. "Let's go to Midori!" BTW, there is a Midori in Abbotsford. They have all you can eat sushi and it's not bad. Average to just above average. There is a sushi place by Joyce Street Skytrain Station that is run by a Japanese sushi chef. Cannot remember the name, but it was pretty darn good. It's on the east side of Joyce about a third of a block south of the station. I almost got thrown out when I asked if they used Atlantic farm salmon. They were insulted. Gotta love that. I hate farm salmon. Only Pacific wild sockeye or red spring for me. The guy must have been Japanese, 'cause he had some official looking certificate on the wall.
Isami Sushi is another excellent place for sushi. It falls into the weird and wonderful category. Run by Japanese. Slightly expensive. It's kind of hidden away. Across from Staples in Metrotown area. Not on Kingsway, but on the side street. It's on par with places like Kura.

Kingyo Izakaya - 9/10
The Tuna Tanaki and Salmon Carpaccio are excellent, mainly for the ponzu sauce that they were on. The tuna tanaki has a ponzu jelly that gives it even more of a sour/salty kick, and the double texture that the tuna has is really nice because it is grilled slightly. The chicken kaarage is also very good, light and non-greasy, though they could've added more of the 3 kinds of salt, it's difficult to really taste the difference with only a dash of it.
If you want something a little bit different, the 4 kinds of cheese grated and baked on french bread definately gave us that, very nice aroma and taste to it, and wasn't as filling as I expected. Then we had the grilled saba, very tender and juicy and the taste from the onions and tomatos definately infused into the fish. We ate the hot pot last, it was just cabbage, beef and tofu, but it's all about the broth and it was incredible. Took a while for it to come though.
Service was excellent, checked up on us fairly frequently, and when dishes arrived they took the time to explain to us what they were, and for the hotpot, how to prepare it properly (lol). When our cocktails were empty, they noticed and offered us the finest of green teas. The hotpot took a while to get to us as I mentioned, but they apologized for that, I'm a laid back guy so I didn't really care about it being late.

Just shaved beef piled in a hoagie. Plain but I'm glad they kept it simple. Usually other places will soak the bun with garlic butter and toast it. I also had some of my girlfriend's fries with gravy and cheese. Large portion but otherwise decent. Stingy on the cheese, which was grated and not curds. Drinks are expensive.
End of meal I asked server to doggy bag my sandwich but he ended up chucking it away. Replaced it though. Service is hurried and they're all over the floor. Music's too loud and it's looking more run down than I remember so it's looking tired these days.

Went to see the hype of lining up for pasta.
Pasta was overcooked so it was too soft. The linguine was supersized, like it was bloated or something. Other table's pasta looked kinda overcooked as well. So part of the reason why the portions look so huge is because they are overcooked so the pasta is bigger.
I like my pasta "al dante", isn't that default texture for pasta at a restaurant?
Won't be going back.

Grub (on Main between 27th and 28th)
Started out with the house bread plate served with parsley hummus, crushed olives, red pepper pate accompanied by a gin martini and a white Riesling. Lady friend had linguine with grilled tilapia served over a cream sauce alongside with grilled BC scallops garnished with parsley and garlic cloves. I, myself, had the pork entree. A grilled (and hefty) serving of pork chop (bone-in) with gai-lan and 3-bean stew. The pork chop was very juicy. Could've been a little more tender but the stew made up for it. Both entrees were delicious. Well done both presentation and taste wise and it came out piping hot. We passed on dessert as we were way too full.
Prices were decent. $8 for the bread plate and about $16/$17 for the entree. I wanted soup but they were sold out early in the evening. The cool part about this place is that the daily specials/entree menu changes everyday so you will never get the same thing twice (or so they say.) The chairs, tables, and interior are very basic and not in-your-face posh nor snobby. Very non-chalant, sit down, shut up, and enjoy your food type of place.
Cons: Long waits. We went on a Friday night so it was expected but it was a 45 minute wait. We didn't mind as we were prepared to wait so we just explored Main Street and its quirky stores. The establishment is small and narrow and they have a strange/childish wallpaper which was neat to look at. Bottom line - you come here to enjoy your food.
Overall: Friendly staff. Awesome un-hipster and unpretentious fare for the price.. Quality is not sacrificed. I'd definitely return. I'd give this place a 9.5/10.
+1 for GRUB
that place is excellento

Appetizer: Cream of Vegetable soup - hard to screw this one up - 9/10
Main Entree: 4 Cheese Gnocchi - overbaked and the blue cheese was too strong. 6/10
Lady friend had fresh clams over marinara spaghetti. Nothing special. 6/10
Dessert: We decided to pass on this.
Service: Meh as usual. It's The Drive and this joint isn't known for service - 7/10

Christopher Steak & Seafood Restaurant and Lounge - out in downtown Kelowna
me and my date shared an escargot for appetizer. It was delicious..kinda too salty but it was alright. We haven't had that for a while so yeah.
I had the striploin cooked to medium rare..it was good although the potatoes were kinda burnt and hard.
My date had the prime rib. I took a bit out of hers and the prime rib was delicious. very juicy and the sauce was great.
Service was good..but not the best
Very lovely atmosphere, classy and romantic setting
overall I'd give it a 8/10

Exciting dining room you would never know it was a former low end vietmanese diner lol.
Dinner was well crafted and very rustic, wasnt overly impressed but definately hit on all marks. Definately a new corner stone in the non foodie market of east vancouver!

unusual main course - u have to order the sides on its own. so if u ordered steak. thats all u get. if u want mashed potatos or veges etc etc, u gotta order it on the side. uber pricey, but uber good. service is top notch.

Friday - Grub 7/10
Quite disappointed since I've been reading such rave reviews on the net. Had the sablefish and gnocchi dish, and found that the gnocchi and veggies provided were way too bland for my liking. Service was lacking as well as both bread and spoon were forgotten for a stew dish that was also ordered. The sablefish was cooked perfectly though, and was delicious.
Saturday - Les Faux Bourgeois Bistro 8.5/10
Nothing to blow you out of the water, but like stated above, very very solid in all aspects. Nice room and ambience, good food, and great value. Compared to Grub, this place was way better. It saved my weekend from being a dining disapointment after my experience at Grub.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at Grub. I read a lot of reviews about the place and apparently, it's very hit and miss. I, however, had an excellent experience at Grub as per my review above. Perhaps give it another go?

Thanks, it definately wasn't a BAD experience, just didn't live up to the hype. Guess that's what I get for reading too much crap online and not going out to restaurants with an unbiased mind.
And I see that you're interested in going to Les Faux Bourgeois Bistro. Should defiantely hit it up, and I suggest you call in to make reservations. I ended up calling in on Thursday for a Saturday night reservation, and all that was available was 530pm or 9pm. So plan accordingly.

DB Bistro Moderne (old Feenie's - next to Lumiere). I had the escargots for an appetizer, my boyfriend had the coq au vin and i had the duck confit. for dessert, we had the Floating Island which is a souffle cake. The service was impeccable! There were about 6 servers in total. The owner and the chef (world famous Daniel Boulud) came around to each table to greet everyone. After the bill came, we discovered that our bottle of Melbac was on the house. Then, they gave us a tour of Lumiere next door. The escargots were delish! It was in a pesto and pine nut sauce. The coq au vin was really mouthwatering! Very tender and juicy with mushrooms. My duck confit was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It came with poutine on the side.
Overall, I prefer the DB Bistro Moderne atmosphere over the pretenious Lumiere one.

Los Margaritas 4th and Maple.
7/10. Enchiladas were alright. Girlfriend's food was better. Probably better tacos but didn't have the stomach room to try. To be honest Pepita's food tasted better, but I dunno about Pepitas and their apparent lack of people in the restaurant during rush hour.

Fish = 5/10 fish was tasteless and the tartar sauce qoute from my friend during the meal (This sucks, it taste like jizz)
Fries = 8/10
Garlic toast = 10/10 best part of the meal.. It was crispy not over toasted and had just enough garlic butter on it:drool
Soup = NEVER FUCKING CAME, 3 other of my friends got the same thing as me but my soup never came!! I even asked after 5 minutes excuse me i didnt get a soup.. stupid waiter replies with o you want one too?!?! AND doesnt even come back with my fucking soup ..
Overall server was really friendly but a total retard, Instead of writing the all our drinks at once she took 2-3 drink orders then walked to the bar ordered it then came back for another 2-3drinks.. she had to make 3 trips, she forgot 2 of my friends drinks(we had to ask her to go get them), and never came back with the soup i asked for.. Joey Tomato's (Coquitlam)
I ordered the grilled chicken souvlaki (came in pita with hummus, tzatziki sauce, and veggies) with skinny fries. It was okay - nothing special, just like what you'd get at any small Greek/donair place. My friend ordered the chicken miso ramen. I have no idea why she was inclined to order a $15 bowl of ramen at a non-asian place. It was indeed a mistake. It was basically a bowl of instant noodles - my friend thinks Mr. Noodle. We also had the Super Sonic Gin and Tonic which was pretty good. The waiter was pretty friendly and drinks and food came pretty quick.

The new Joey's Resaurant (on Burrard and Pender Street, across from the Cactus Club on Burrard). I really like the modern, funky decor. When you walk in at first, the restaurant seems really small until you head towards the washrooms and discover another, more intimate section of the restaurant. The menu is pretty much the same with a few additional add-ons like Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich and a selection of new cocktails. I'll definitely want to head over there for lunch if I have a 2 hour break!!

The Main on Main (Greek and Mediterranean)
If you're coming to The Main, just order the Roast Lamb. I found that other entrees weren't that great. Waitress was nice but not very attentive (only 2 waitress').
Overall I would give this place a 6.5/10.
Not really racist!

Kingyo (Downtown on Denman)
Service was pretty good for NYE, they're weren't as many people as I expected
Most of the food came reallly quick except for one of them (rice and some other things mixed) Though I can't remember most of the names of the dishes we had, most of them tasted excellent. Dessert came quick as well.
The thing I probably loved most about the restaurant was the furnishing. Looked really nice and gave a good feel. Washrooms were clean and very nice!

Akasaka in Surrey
Food wasn't that great, yet over priced. I ordered an appetizer (beef sashimi) and it was too salty. $60 per a person (6) to get everyone full is not worth it. I can get full for $15-$20 somewhere else that serves quality sushi rolls. Service was excellent.
