I am pretty stoked that Carls Jr. is finally coming to Canada. To those who have tasted it in the States know what I am talking about... can't beat the $1 burgers.

I scratch my head b/c it is opening in Surrey!
Out of all places why Slurrey? Oh well!

OMG this is amazing news ...Western Burger kicks ass!

I can't believe they had Carls Jr 10 years ago in Malaysia, but not in Canada

and NO In n' Out does not need to come here. The last thing we need to do is spoil it like we did Krispy Kreme. Keep it in Cali, AZ and NV. It has to remain a treat everytime we go there.

I'd rather have Jack In The Box up here than Carl's Jr.

I went to a Jack In The Box close to Seatac Airport and it wasn't anything special. Just tasted like any other fast food joint. The only good thing to come out of that visit was buying a Jack head that I can put on my car's antenna :D

That's a blatant lie! When I was in Chicago on business, I made it a point to drive out to a White Castle to try it. My experience was akin to a teenage girl and her bf's first sexual experience, mouth-watering anticipation followed by disappointment. I'm a huge burger fan and those were just disgusting. A couple of grilled onion bits and a patty the thickness of a slice of ham? No thanks.

To each his own. White Castle burgers aren't about size. To properly savour a White Castle burger you have to take in the aroma and slowly bite into it, feeling the texture of the bread roll bun, the thin beef patty, and the soft bursting onions. Finally you get to taste the grilled onion flavour that has permeated into the beef and bun through the White Castle unique grilling/steaming process.

People who go to try White Castle burgers with the standard preconception of what a burger should taste like will be disappointed.

My friend ate at White Castle in Chicago and ended up with food poisoning. He said they were disgusting but to each his own i suppose. Carl's Jr. burgers look kind of gross to me, but since I live nearby I will probably check it out once just to say I did.

LOL nice comparison.

Anyways I personally don't think that the White Castle burgers look good, imho they look really disgusting.

I've never had Carl's Jr. I'd rather have a Wendy's burger than drive all the way to Surrey to end up disappointed.

The only people who should eat this stuff is really skinny asian guys who can't put on weight at all eating themselves to death, or those big ass CFL players who eat tons of calories to stay big & fat. Giant fatasses or people who are classified as "obese" or "severely obese" I hope for the love of God don't get boners for this burger, otherwise there goes the suspension on our buses.

They opened a Carl's Jr by the Tulalip outlets so a Carl's Jr road-trip isn't entirely out of the question anymore! It's on the other side of I-5 from the outlet/casino, on the outlet side - in that strip mall where the Ross Dress for Less and Starbucks are, beside the Northbound onramp (so perfect to hit on your way after some shopping)

It's the folks in suburbs (read: Surrey) that needs to get their asses in the car to drive to The City, we City folks have more modes of transportation available to us than you suburbans, so I don't know what you're talking about.

and speaking of fast food, you suburbans have way more fast food choices than we do, ie. Kelseys, Taco Bell, Krispy Kreme. We don't have those in Vancouver.

soooo I went to Carl's Jr last night, and it was amazing.

Having lived in California for a few years, this was the MAJOR burger chain that I missed soo badly...

but it's ridiculously expensive here....

I bought 4 burgers, the bill ended up being over $28 taxes included.

It's retarded because the Six Dollar Burger (which costs much less than $6 in the states) is renamed to the Thickburger, and all of them cost more than $6. I got the Portabello Mushroom "Thickburger" and it was $7.18 for JUST THE BURGER.

BEFORE TAX

But on the box, it says "Six Dollar Burger"

I am pretty sure that I was the first person who ordered the Chili Cheeseburger because it's not on the menu, the cashier didn't know what I was talking about, and then she finally saw it on her system, lol

Then a whole bunch of managers all gathered together as they were making it, lol

Overall, REALLY GOOD, but freaking $$$ compared to the normal prices in the states

Culverin
02-04-2013, 08:13 AM
I've been to the one at Seattle Premium a couple times.
And the one in Chilliwack once.

I don't really understand the hype.
It's just another fast food chain. And I'm pretty sure the burgers are pre-made and frozen.

I've hit up 5 Guys a couple times and the beef is beef. It's juicy and has a proper crust. That's what makes the burger, and the condiments at 5 Guys aren't bad either. Except the bacon. It could be thicker cut.

Am I missing something here? :okay:

soooo I went to Carl's Jr last night, and it was amazing.

The same thing was said when Chipotle opened, its awesome that more US food chains are coming to Canada, but be ready to pay more, especially if it opens in the downtown core.

You won't find any fast food joint listing their prices online as the prices are different from region to region.

Why is this so surprising? It's the same with most US fast food chains. Pizza Hut and KFC, for example, charges way more in Asia than they do here and the states.

Being from California as well..I really missed this place. Do they have the zuchinni with the buttermilk dipping sauce?

Maybe I'm cheap. But fast food nowadays is ridiculously priced. $10+ for a combo, you won't see me as a customer. IT'S BLOODY FAST FOOD!!

In the 21st century, Fast food does not mean cheap food (unless you are in the states). McDonald's began that notion years ago when they adjusted their portion size in line with the Canadian Food Guide, while increasing prices at 3-4x the rate of our national inflation.

For $10/meal, there are many better and healthier options out there.

My office building is right beside it, so had to give it a try. I tried the mushroom burger and it tasted great. For $10+ though, that was my first and last time there. There are just way too many other healthier options out there.

Both were really good
My favorite is usually the Chili but since it was their first time making it, they had little chili for my tastes.

The mushroom was also really good

If I had to grade it this time it would be Mushroom 9/10, Chili 8/10

Normally it's the other way around for me.

Tried the THICK Mushroom burger and it was good but a little salty. Overall it was just okay...nothing special IMO, I'd rather hit up Five Guys OR Splitz!

Tried Splitz the other day and it was fan-fucking tastic!

If and when you ever get a chance, try the one in Whistler. I find that it's better but westopher says he had an equal experience in Vancouver, but only when the owner Trevor is working.

Forget region to region... they can differ from store to store.

I had the "Carl" burger with fries and pop. Holy crap was everthing HUGE. The burger tasted great but I basically didn't even touch the fries, had a couple just to try. I could do with smaller more reasonable portions if it meant that the prices would come down a bit. Overall, good food but mucho $$$ for a burger joint.
