Lol, it's funny how Mexican food is always mentions or thought of as a fast food. Is there even Mexican high end food?

vic & 34th. most authentic tacos i've had in the city.

i ordered 6 tacos and its really filling. i could only pack down 5. oh and the cinnamon milk drink is really tasty too. for lack of a better description its like cinnamon toast crunch cereals' milk.

$2ish/taco depending on if you add cheese.

True enough as I'm from Cali. Granted I haven't tried every Mexican joint in town but all so far all have been dissapointing. At the moment I drive to Bellingham at least once a month to a place called Mi Mexico off the far side of Bellis Fair Mall. Arroz Con Pollo is good there, and their Margaritas come on the rocks and not blended up like some damn Bellini.

red burrito, taco del mar.

I was all excited when I saw Red Burrito go in, but come on, they are basically using donair meat to fill their burritos. You can't do that...

Yeah, I'm not usually a fan of the wrap style places but Chipotle is pretty good. Very good grilled meats and fresh ingredients (at least the one I used to go to). Didn't know they are in Washington. Which towns? Bellingham I hope since it's close.

Went to Don Cata a month ago and it was great. I've never had authentic mexican food before, but I ordered the chicken mole and it was a really good dish. I also ordered a horchata (a cinnamon flavoured milk drink) which was great since it soothes your mouth from spicy food.

Meowjin

horchata is a drink version of a greek desert... called rizogolo (rice pudding)... felt weird the first time i had it in arizona as my mom would make the greek dish when i was younger and i was drinking it!

i'm glad they have it though.... Didn't go today... just stayed at home and ate some leftover pastitstio

Dona Cata is by far the best

the new best place is don guacamole and to tell you the truth, that place SUCKED ASS. I went in, there's nothing authentic (decor wise), but cause it's new and hip, they have expanded to the site beside them.

la margarita is just super gay, long wait and the food isn't even that great.

Don Guacamoles? They recently expanded into the space next door so now it's twice the size.

Just had three Mexi Cali beef tacos for lunch. Maybe coz I had it for takeout, but the shells seemed stale, beef was dry. The red sauce on top was tasty. It wasn't unappetizing, just not very good.

So I went to Dona Cata tonight for dinner with my lady friend.

Food: 8.5/10 - Food came out fast but also got cold fast. Felt like it was already cooked and left sitting there and was heat up to be served. I wouldn't mind waiting an extra 10 or 15 minutes if it were fresh. Loved their salsas - by far the best I've had. All in all - pretty authentic.

Ambience: 8.5/10 - Felt pretty authentic inside. Something similiar to what you'd run into in SoCal or Mexico. Music was a little too loud but at the same time, felt like a fast food joint where you go up to get your own salsa.

Service: 7.5 maybe an 8/10 - We were seated promptly. Got our tortilla chips and food came pretty quickly but was nothing spectacular. They stay out of your face unless you call for them. Nothing to really complain about would be the bottom line.

Price: 8.5/10 - Because this is not Mexico or SoCal, the prices aren't bad for the amount of food we ordered. 3 tacos and two entres came to $28 and change before tip. My lady friend and I were so full, we couldn't finish our food. Cost-to-value was not bad.

Enjoy! :)
