I think something is played, when you see someone that doesn't really have a sense of fashion, but suddenly start wearing it just to fit in.

I would say a brand is overplayed when you're bored of seeing it. It lost its effect. But its a personal thing. But fashion comes and goes all the time like the mufukin wind. What was cool today is not cool yesterday. Then what was cool yesterday ends up being cool again.

So by your guys definition "levi's is overplayed?
levis has withstood the test of time... if CA, or RR is around for 100 years then you dont call it overplayed, you call it a classic
probably when you have to come on the internet and ask about it being played out

i dont understand this whole boysco over played thing, i bought a pair of nudie jeans there yesterday and i have not seen anyone wear them so far ( they are great jeans and also good price not like 400 for rock republic) where are u going to get stuff that boysco has, everyone on this site is a fuking poser because i am sure they have shopped at boysco for there ed hardy or rr jeans or there tr jeans. and let say they did not shop at boysco they got it from a diff store then that means that store is overplayed. people here are just pissed off that everyone has the same eh or ch shirt or tr jeans, who gives a fuck, if your like it rock it.

Its played when you look like shit in it. You could spend a thousand dollars on jeans that are so fresh they actually came from the future and have built in lead lining because in the future Canada is a radio-active wasteland but people still buy Armani, but if it looks bad on you, then its played like hammer pants.
However, if you've got style and swerve and are popping fresh all the time, you could wear five-year-old GAP khakis and the only shit people could talk about it is that they are covered in stains from all the pussy that rubs up on them.

its impossible to say a brand is overplayed by one of their lines and say their other stuff is not overplayed. Keep in mind boys'co did carry boss suits, im not sure now.
harry rosen carries juicy and JL stuff that can be found in boys'co, so i guess lot of the stuff at harry rosen is overplayed too
ppl say CA is overplayed, so they tie in smet and hardy as overplayed. You cant say CA tshirts are overplayed and say their board shorts arent overplayed and so on...

09-23-2008, 08:52 PM
when the new dom rebel collection was released i raided every boys co and bought almost every shirt they had in a size small. ;p i think the only reason why its become so popular these past few months is because their current collection somewhat resembles Christian Audigier and Ed Hardy (skulls, busy design, etc.). it might become overplayed but i don`t see it becoming a brand that is going to die anytime soon, considering their designs change quite a bit from collection to collection and as b.vu stated, it is sold in limited quantities and is only available a few times a year.
i startd wearing dom rebel back in 2005, before of all the craziness.

Marco911

Brands that gain widespread acceptance by the lower to middle-class and where the clothes are sourced from third world countries.
Moratorium
05-21-2009, 04:23 AM
Marco's description is more or less accurate. I'd say there are a couple brands that have stood the test of time and are generally respected despite who wears them. Nike, Adidas, Levis come to mind. Another thing with a brand like nike is that it has its hands in a lot of different sub cultures: Shox, SB dunks, Trainers, Basketball shoes etc.
I guess a sure fire way of telling when something is overplayed is when imitations start popping up everywhere.
EG: The fake ed hardy hats at night market, and I saw an old chinese man wearing a bathing fape tee.

I think you can tell a brand is overplayed, especially in Vancouver, when you see it being sported by kids at Metrotown.
To my credit, I once rocked Club Monaco and collected their sweaters in at least 6 colors. I suppose the word Monaco evoked feelings of luxury and grandeur.
companies like lacoste, polo, adidas, nike will never be overplayed...they've established their brand image. In the case of lacoste...polo etc...you'll see younger people wearing it to follow a trend...like a rapper wearing a polo, or the whole pink polo, flipped collar thing...but they'll never be played out...they've been around too long. Nike and adidas ... they're first function is for sports, not fashion...even if pieces are modified and worn as a trend and overplayed...it will always come back to being a reliable sports brand.

Here's some stuff that will NEVER be played out:
Hugo Boss - - - the hugo boss stuff you find at Harry Rosen or the Hugo Boss store, and not boys sco, although there many be some similar items.
Versace, Gucci, Chanel, etc etc - - the nice elegant stuff. not the stuff that the kids wear.
Georgio Armani - -- not armani exchange
GAP, old, navy, BR - -this shiet will be around for ages
Levi's
Nike, Addidas, umbro, reebok - sports stuff cause we all need it.
A&E, Abercrombie - when it's in every US mall, it's gonna be around forever.
i think it comes down to the individual. some people can pull it off. . . many cant!
example: white surfer dude can wear Hollister, quicksilver, and look totally normal. But same dude tries to wear ed hardy and he might look weird.
another ex: Rich looking dude in lambo wears hugo boss suit, can pull it off.
cant pull it off: poor asian with toyota corolla rice rocket with Dolce & Gabanna white-t's trying to look hardcore - -- -

;5991990']I think it's actually the opposite, it's when you see OLD people wear it.
like iphone (if you consider it a fashion statement),, my grandma has one, my aunt has one, my aunt's daughter has one , heck even my neighbor's son has one. And their dog probably has one too.

define your own style and don't worry too much on brands, having style is making an outfit from sears look good
start getting inspiration from magazines like inventory
shop at roden gray.

when stuff hits revscene buy and sell haha
But same dude tries to wear ed hardy and he might look weird.
another ex: Rich looking dude in lambo wears hugo boss suit, can pull it off.
cant pull it off: poor asian with toyota corolla rice rocket with Dolce & Gabanna white-t's trying to look hardcore - -- -
I tried to find something wrong with this analysis.. but I couldn't. (other than grammar/spelling :troll:)
IMO, this guy got it dead on. (Even though the examples are SUPER stereotype to the extreme, but his points are still valid...)
