I gave in. I was going to take a hiatus this season due to lingering injuries from last season, but covered physio takes care of that.

So...

I bought new gear, again.

I got 2 passes, again.

So who's got what this season, and where you going to rep your gear?

If that's not dedication, I don't know what is.

2 x 3 hour sittings and counting.

I have another sitting of filler around the blue...going to be another session of white around there.

then another sitting for greywashing the black outline, so when it's all said and done, you will only see the color and the shape.

this season is officially my 20th year snowboarding. I kinda wanted to do that ink around my man tit for a few years now.

ANyone know a good local shop that can bevel edges? I bought a new board this year and dont wanna get hung up on rails.

You can do it yourself very easily.

What you want to do is to get a file and apply vinyl or electrical tape to one side of it. make it thick, roughly half a cm.

Take a permanent marker and mark the base edge, the area of the edge that is along side of the running surface/base. What you are doing is making the marker for you to see how much of the edge you are beveling.

Take that file you applied tape to, and put the tape side on the base of the board, that tape has then angled your edge at an aproximate 1-2 degree base bevel.

Run the file along the markered portion of the base and you will see from the metal you remove that you are then beveling the edges.

very simple and very easy to do, plus you still have side edge to use for the harder snow conditions.

The edge card is a discount card that is electronically connected to your credit card, it allows you to get discounted passes for whistler blackcomb anytime out of the year.

They can also give you HUGELY discounted pre purchased tickets for the season as well as the standard discounted passes there after.

If memory serves me correctly, you can get a 1 day [pre purchased ticket] edge card, or a 5 day [pre purchased ticket] edge card.

Wow, I don’t usually post in topics like this, but my hat is off to you Vangruver. 20 years in, that’s kick ass. I think I rode for about 11 before my knees just couldn’t hack it anymore. Doing cliff drops with a duck foot stance, not recommended.

Again, my hats off to you. So many times Ill stop and watch the new videos out, and be amazed at how technical snowboarding is now, how much it has moved forward. Me and a friend were laughing the other day that “Wow, dude, we are old school now.”

Remember Palmer getting tossed out of Japan? Remember Palmers first “boneless”?

Remember when Terje was just some kid that didn’t speak proper English?

Remember When Craig Kelly Ruled?

Remember Dan Donolly, and the fights over judging the first competitions?

Remember Cutting up your free ride board to make a twin tip?

Remember Skybacks?

Remember Neon?

Remember Movies like “upping the ante” or the old “Kemper” Videos? “Board Test!”

I could go on and on. Memories bring a tear to my eye. Keep it up man, one day Ill get a pair and get back up a mountain. Until then, have a great time, and Ill be sitting here staring at my Crystal Ocean and World Industry boards on the wall…..

This posting reminds me of a self note I made to myself a few years back

My Journal: Wednesday, November 15, 2006
So let's just take it back a few years, where super stances and baseless bindings were around.

where you bonked everythign in your path,

where you wore ugly ass jester hats, but hey they were cool.

where noah salesnek was ruling the scene.

where craig kelly had conquered every gnarley powderline there is today.

where jamie lynn would be stomping the battle ground known as mt. baker.

where euro carvers were actually around on the hill.

take it back.

if you didnt know about the early 90's you missed out.

where you coudn't snowboard on a hill because skiiers and their uni suits would smack you with their poles.

where the board you rode was the same size as your front door, and actually rode like one.

where sorell's were actually snowboard boots.

when you HAD to put in effort in order to carve a board.

Nothing is wrong with duck stances, its just when you do an extreme duck stance is where the problems and knee pains come into play.

your legs are designed to work together, and when you do an extreme duck stance your inner portion of your knees get stretched too much than they can handle.

It's good for small jumps, and jibbing, but when you throw down HUGE drops or launch yourself off of gnarley tables, THAT's where the problems come into when you get older.

The problem with duck is its really hard on the knees when doing larger hit, cliffs that kind of thing. It tends to push your knees out. For me it caused alot of tendon/muscle damage aparently. I really wanst etream duck, but enough that it caused some issues. Keep in mind I skated for a lt of the time, and probally wasnt to kind on my body for many years.

HA "bonked everything in your path". Love it.

Remeber when I think it was "snowboarder" Magazine had the set of skis that they would clip together to make a board and ride mountians that didnt allow snowboarding? Classic stuff.

Jamie Lynn, wow, havent heard that name in ages. Dont I rember him riding with no gloves at all times of the year? And yes, I had a Noah board. Dude was such a slash dog, but I loved his Pro Models, really nice shapes and flex patterns.

And Im afraid to be the one to tell you this, but those jester hats, they were never cool. HA!

Yup, its pretty cool to be able to say I was around for the real begining of all that. Maybe all this remembering might get my ass up a mountain....

Ill be the old guy doing flat land tricks into the chair line and listening to Face to Face on a walkman.

Is it safe to say that snowboard movies of today is not the same as snowboard movies from before.

Say like: Technical Difficulties, True Life and etc. vs....... Whatever crap that passes as a snowboard movies nowadays.

I can't point a finger to it why the snowboarding flicks of today doesn't hype me up as much as the older ones. And I can appreciate that flicks of today have progressed light years in production, quality and content but something just feels missing. Anyone else feel the same?

I think you're on your own.

To me, a snowboard film gets me stoked when i see tricks that I can do done at a hill I've never been before.

now a days because of the technicality of tricks, and the amount of time's someone goes upside down, it's boring. Only because they are done at places I can't afford to even think of going, and they are built on stuff far too massive for even the average riders to do.

What really gets me amped is a train of riders doing the same tricks on park and runs that look fun.

Fun is high on my priority list.

don't think it's dumb, i think it's about effing time.

Quebec made it against the law to drive anywhere public without snow tires.

Yes, i know we aren't as extreme in regards to weather, but when you are traveling a highway like the sea to sky, any fxck up could cause massive injuries and or death.

the sea to sky is rated #3 most treacherous mountain roadways. More often you'll see idiots wanting to kill it on the first chair up hammering down the highway. And chances are they are driving a sh!t box honda civic piled to the max with people and gear with no proper traction for the roads.

damn. when i went shopping for boots a few weeks back i was in love with the Lashed, but they didn't have my size. But I ended up with Rome Libertine's in black. Not a bad boot either, really lightweight and stiff enough in the spots you need them stiff in. More of a park boot than a freeriding boot but I still use it for all mountain. Really good ankle support in both directions!

Wow, on Saturday, there was a power outage in Cypress. I was stuck in a lift in pure darkness. I think for 15 or so minutes. Pretty freaky after the first 10 mins.... and cold. Good thing they got the power back on, but they closed the mountain afterwards. Only had 3 runs. I hope it doesn't happen again.

I also saw a Cypress bus in the ditch at the side of the road. Poor travelers.

rnt they local?

Not local, but they do have a local distributor.

They were one of the first companies to use a local liner however.

The intuition liners are based in vancouver.

Something to be proud of.

Not sure. I always have my boots heat molded (hockey & snowboarding) so I don't really know how an unmolded feels like. However, it can very well depend on your shape.

I have narrow feet so I fit in easy with many boots. But this boot feels like I'm playing with running shoes. Of course, it could be just a preference thing. I'm partial to boots that are light-weight plus soft all around. I remember Vangruver likes his boots stiff. So I guess what's great for me may not be great for some.

Yes, but keep in mind that any heat moldable liner only allows roughly 3 molds in it's life.

What works just like placing it in the oven is to wear it around the house as you normally would and it will take a little longer, but still mold to your foot.

i read around the bfb's r similar to the rulers (which i currently have) regarding stiffness
but having used the rulers for 4 or 5 yeras... they are as soft as a pillow

Athletic stance, and looking where you're going.

If you go at a jump with stiff legs and going at it blind you will more than likely off axis yourself and not land correctly.

if you know the basics of any regular spin, the key is to start the spin with your arms, your shoulders and then your head.

that will give you the wind up for any big spin.

inverted spins? shoulders then head.

To complete a spin you MUST keep your head looking for that landing. or at least in the same direction as your spin.

Awesome tips. I'm still trying to learn 180s though. I just started getting confident with doing bigger jumps and landing them with proper form.

Think it's better to learn to land jumps switch before learning 180's?

Before you try and land switch, you should ride switch just as well as you can regular.

When I coached, i would literally force my students to ride switch as fast as possible, with the most control as possible. on moderately difficult conditions.

Put it this way, if you were to do a backside 180, where your landing is completely blind, you must be 100% confident in your switch riding, because then you'd be able to ride out of anything that comes up your way.

I was up at Cypress yesterday 10am-4pm.

Icy as fuck. The only good runs were Fork (and whatever blues/blacks that are attached to it) and Panorama, but Panorama was covered with douches and/or nubs who blocked the side hits. Bombing the same couple runs got old so I passed time trying to improve my non-existent ground trick repertoire on the Panorama flats. Don't even think about tree lines.

Please get some snow pleasepleaseplease

I just came back from big white and the conditions are pretty icy at night. Especially the run that requires you to take the bullet express chair. The top half of the run is like an ice rink.

I found the best runs to cruise on are the runs that require you to take powder chair and gem lake chair.

i returned a pair of boots for an in store credit one time. you might be able to do that, or get an exchange. if the boots are still brand new looking. its sort of understandable as you cant tell how boots feel by walking around the store for 15 minutes.

are the pressure points created by your bindings? i had a pressure point caused by the buckle part of my binding but i could adjust the buckle on the strap to a different point and it was fine.

daggon
01-26-2009, 08:19 PM
its not due to the bindings because i tried many different settings and even different bindings to see if its the cause.

Is the lens fogging on the inside, outside, or between lenses? If its the inside you might have wiped off the anti-fog coating by accident. In which case you don't need to buy a new lens, just spray some CatCrap or something on it. If it's the outside, CatCrap works too, or you can just wipe it off. But if it's between the dual lens, you're fucked so go buy a lens.

Comor and Pacific Boarder carry Spy. You should be able to find lenses there. If not, you can definitely find lenses online.

Out of curiosity, which Spy's do you have (frame and lens)?
