Vapourware. They're just planning this, looking for investors. A 6x17 sensor would cost something like $100,000 or more.

I find it creepy that If you own the EPIC 617. You can take a photo on Burnaby mountain and zoom in all the way to downtown and stalk someone in one of the Office windows CLEARLY and I'm not exaggerating.

Of course I've heard of RED. I'm just saying as of now, it's vapourware. None of the renderings except the ONE exist as physical objects at this moment as far as I know.

The image will only be as good as the optics it uses...meaning you'd only be able to zoom in that much IF you have good enough optics on it.

Fair enough. None exist yet, but I don't think that's going to happen with RED. Jim Jannard will pour copious amounts of serious money into the company just to keep it floating anyways.

There owners got very deep pockets (just image the cost of getting the domain name red.com) and they are not looking for investors.

They already have one camera out that is being used by people like Peter Jackson and the TV show Sanctuary that is shot in Vancouver. Also the red scarlet will be released at nab March 22 2009.

What's so special about the pic? Doesn't seem any different than that taken by any other DSLR and cropped to the proper ratio. In fact, seems a bit soft, and contrast is lacking. The video is good, but not THAT special.

That video looks sweet and all but is that really that much better than a 5D MKII and a 135L @ F5.6? Would be interested to see.

red one goes around $17k USD for the camera body only. lenses each run you about $6k ish accesories, etc etc for a fully functional cam will run you around $30k

still a bargain though considering the price of it's counterparts
