my dad just did it its easy but takes over a month to get paid which is bs.

you need your record of employment, your work might send it to ei in advance but you still need to deliver a copy I believe.

Well, that doesn't seem unreasonable considering the government is essentially giving you free money.

Well everyone pays for it...

If you want to receive it, you have to go through the process. It isn't asking for too much anyways. Instead of people complaining, why don't people try to make it better? Make some suggestions on how to improve the processing method and how to make it more efficient.

U can only apply TWO weeks after you've been unemployed. So takes 1 month to get the first two weeks. Then every two weeks you need to check in and prove that you're looking for a job.

I applied for it not too long ago when I was in transition to a new job that got delayed a month. I got $80 fucking dollars for the month.

Not worth my time of going to the fucking EI office, and online plus phone calls.

I'm not sure of the details, but I'm pretty sure the website: servicecanada.gc.ca would have th info for you. If not, you can drop by their offices. They are pretty helpful, especially when it comes to job searching.

they did about 10 years ago when the liberals jacked up the rates. But then they spent it all in general revenue.... which is why the liberals always had surplus budgets 5-10 years ago. every year they just took money out of the EI fund.

you have to let them know you are leaving, and they will dedect pay for the days you are away.

unless you can prove you were travelling to look for work in other citys.

They base it on an average of hours worked over a certain time period, I'm not sure if that's 6 months, 9 months or a year. You said it yourself for 08 you didn't work a lot so your EI payments are based on that.

My wife for example works fulltime, when she was on mat leave she was on EI. They paid her the max because leading up to that she was a fulltime employee working fulltime hours.

They have to base it off something they don't just pull an arbitrary number out of a hat. In your case you actually would have been better off going on EI when it slowed down leading into 2008. If you did that you still could have worked here (claiming it of course) and there but EI would have supplemented your income when you weren't working. Since you worked a long time period with out many hours you totally screwed yourself.
