Best Burger Joint
Looking for some extraordinary burgers and fries. I've tried Burger Etcs and other restaurants and was just wondering what you guys think is the best burger place in the lower mainland? Post place's name and your rating and reasons why!

Not really a burger joint, but the burger they cook at yew is phenomenal.
Hamburger – Sesame Kaiser, Farmhouse Cheddar, Crispy Fries, Porcini, Pancetta and Roasted Onion
dude, i was just thinking of finding the best burger place in the city for next summer.
it sounds like a great summer task
Burger Etc on Hastings won the CTV best burger before and it was ALRIGHT. It wasn't really anything to write how about though they make it fresh and you get to see how they make it. It was a regular burger for the most part.
I still love Bon's jumbo burger.

Moderne Burger (W. Broadway) or Red Onion (41st near Arbutus) for me.

I hear Moderne Burger is rather expensive and for an unseasoned bland burger. With extra toppings for 1.50 each.
^ I still think Red Onion has a damn good burger. Maybe not the best burger, but damn good.

#1 burger in Vancouver has to be the db Bistro Modern Burger , its a bit pricey at $28 but its really really good. Sirloin, short rib and truffle. The meat melts in your mouth.

The best CHEAP AND TASTY burger I've had was at, believe it or not.....Save-On Meats in the DES. $4.50 cheeseburger, can't remember the fixin's (lettuce, tomato, maybe onions, ketchup and mustard?), genuine unprocessed cheese, but the highlight, freshly ground DOUBLE pattie. I'm talking about straight from the meat market at the front of the store. Soooooo soft and juicy! Fries were nothing to brag home about but still good. The fact that the whole cooked food section resembled a old 70's diner (spinning stationary stools, mustard yellow sparkly counter etc) was just gravy on top!
Being a burger buff myself, other places that I've enjoyed a burger...
- Vera's (Daily special's FTW!)
- Cedar Cottage Neighborhood pub's Cottage burger (~$10)
- The Whip's Sirloin burger (~$14, lots of fries!)

Boonie's BBQ and Soul Food at the Cloverdale Curling Rink has a great burger at a reasonable price. It's a double patty with southern hot link sausage, cheese, tomato, lettuce. You can add seasoned fries which have a kick. The pic below is kinda a weird angle, the burger is actually huge.

Read many mixed reviews of Splitz, really hit and miss...moreso miss then hit. Never tried so I can't say. I heard that the Whistler location is really good.
Also, in the works in a new burger joint just North of King Ed on Main, Copper Watertower or something like that? There's a big banner that's hanging off one rope the last time I drove past it. Not sure when it's due to open.

^One of the cooks I work with say that Save-On Meats is the place to get great fresh meat of any cut you want. If you think about it, it's probably true, since that place has been there for at LEAST 15 years and is still surviving (despite it's unfortunate location).

^ Agreed. Definately more then 15 years since I remember it from when I was 6-7 when my grandma would take me to Woodwards to shop and see the xmas displays on the toy floor.
Unfortunately, it's one of the last independent butcher shops around town. I read the cover story in the Vancouver Courier a few months ago, saying that they're loosing out to the big box supermarkets even though your local butcher would have fresher cuts of meats. I guess it's the convenience of it all. Windsor Meats at Main/King Ed next to the Grind just closed its doors not too long ago. Apparently it's been there for 30+ years?
One more to add to the list: King's Head Pub in Kits. They have a pretty big list of burger, about a dozen plus or minus. Tried the bacon cheese and it was pretty good.

For best burgers, I like the following:
Red Robins - California Chicken Burger
Two Parrot's - Beef Burger (can't remember which one i had)
Earl's - They used to have a veggie burger years back that I liked, but I don't think they have it anymore
Still haven't had a good salmon burger yet except for the one my dad makes.

This guy knows what he's talking about. Cedar Cottage makes a pretty damn good burger and for 10 bucks which includes a side, it's a steal. I haven't been to Save on Meats, but if you think it's even better than Cedar Cottage, then I think it's worth getting jabbed by a used syringe to head down there.
When I used to work at the Keg, I used to order the regular Keg burger for lunch and add on an extra patty for just 2 or 3 bucks more. After you add the extra patty, one just isn't enough. Keg burger patties are made from prime rib but so unhealthy cause you can't cut out the fat.

^ Good call! Me and a few friends were doing Santacon a couple of weeks back, all baked and buzzed, broke away from the crowd and headed down to SOM for a good burger. You can imagine the look on everyones face when you see 3 guys dressed up as Santa walking in, headed straight to the back and mow down on some good ass burgers! Shitty to hear that they're closing down though. Another local institution bites the dust...:(
Another one to add to my list....Subeez/Wazubees turkey & sun-dried tomato burger. It's not on the menu all the time though, it only be a seasonal burger. Anyhow, if you get a chance, try it. There was one time my friend that it wasn't good but all the times I've had it, it passed with flying colours.

Not sure if any of you guys know but SOM is slated to close on March 14th if it doesn't find a buyer...
Owner Al DesLauriers is 78, and wants to retire. He quietly put the Save-on-Meats building at 43 West Hastings up for sale last year for $3 million, and may close the business down on March 14 if he can’t find a buyer.
Source (http://www.vancouversun.com/Save+Meats+owner+seeks+buyer+save+historic+store/1177768/story.html)
I might make it a weekly thing to go with some buddies until it closes but I sure hope it stays open. It's definately an institution here in Vancouver. Also, with a little refurbishing of the inside, business will only go up once the Woodwards opens up.

X-Site has some good cheap food and is conveniently placed on Hastings in Burnaby, but their burgers aren't even half as good as some others mentioned in this thread.

Yeah the burgers always come with a salad and baked potatoes. I think its because they don't have a deep fryer.

Burgers are very similar to the fully dressed White Spot or In-N-Out burgers (with cheese, lettuce, tomato, etc). Fatburger does have other unique extra you can add on like a fried egg. Shakes are decent. Overall its ok but a little overpriced. Most Fatburger locations have a Vera's Burger nearby, and I would much rather eat there.

fatburger is like jlo said, similar to whitespot. overpriced though. i only get it once a year, and it's always (surprisingly) during celebration of lights when im around the area.

oh yeah, exit #204. its next to the tacobell, starbucks plaza...
last time i had one of these was like years ago just outside of vegas heading towards the grand canyon. as for a fast food joint, its damn good!
ordered the regular famous burger. this is SUPPOSE to be the size of a junior whopper, or its competitor, but hell no, this thing is huge! and an order of the chilli cheese fries...
good stuff!
on the side note, they opened up a jack in the box right across the border, like 3 minutes past the border right off the highway in the business shopping outlet!

Go to A&W and get the animal burger! I believe its 6 patties, bacon, cheese. They used to put a hotdog on it and a fried egg.
Reminds me of In N Out Burger down south. You can order the number of patties and cheese slices you want. You just go like, "4 x 4(for 4 patties with 4 cheese slices) burger" and they make it fresh and delicious. Animal style too!
Mmmm... I miss In N Out =\

Had the bishop's burger at white spot yesterday, pretty average, there's some blue cheese or some other type of cheese on it I think and that wasn't bad. Expensive though
Really like the mushroom burger at Red Robin's.
Tried the A&W sirloin uncle burger, Meh'ed... too expensive too

I had a very good burger at Cafe Crepe the other day. Went to the newly renovated one on Granville and 12th. $7.50, plain hamburger. Cheese and bacon are extra obviously. It was cooked well, juicy and tender. Thin cut fries were freshly fried.
For the price, A+. However, lukewarm coffee was a fail.

There was a burger I ate at Firefighters bar/lounge(?) place beside Metrotown/Bonsor. It's more directed for an older audience, but before, we knew one of the cooks so we went a couple times.
They had this burger called a 3-alarm burger... Holy. Massive sirloin patty, hot dog sausage, bacon, fried egg, cheese. Soooooo orgasmic, plus you get a massive side of fries/onion rings/ or salad for 11-13$!
When you are eating it you :sweetjesus: but afterwards you feel like you are about to have a heart attack.
Anyone else have it before?

Been going to the Sportstown tavern lately, and I must say, their Tuesday burger special (for $3!) is pretty darn good. It ain't anything fancy, but hey, at $3, it is absolutely the best burger you can get.
