the 2nd picture in the gallery shows the biggest scratch, scuffed on the corners of the screen and the buttons, for the camera and volume have lost their paint

yes it is unlocked and if you look closely, i took a picture with the side buttons lit up and the one that is completely blue is the volume so yes you can't really see which is volume up and down but the top button is volume+ and the bottom is volume-
