: Colbalt accident on Blanshard

Stopped at timmies and noticed fire trucks and police cars at the intersection around 9pm tonight. Apparently this red Cobalt somehow managed to destroy itself and take down a lamp pole / traffic light on a straight road..

Only got a really crappy pic on my phone of it, can't really tell that theres nothing left of the front and fenders of the car. Anyone know what happened? Guy musta been HAULING ass down there.

Looks like a total ricer. Was likely driving as such and lost control. If it is a new SS, it was likely too much car for the driver.

lol, I think that car was on the used lot at Vic BMW some time ago.

speed was the only issue I know of.

Traffic analysts had things marked out as far back as the esso station and it looks like the car was already out of control well before the intersection.

I didn't get the OK to tow it until 1am this morning.

The streetlights must have reflected into his eyes from the bling.

I doubt it's a new SS,

#1 There's probably less than a dozen on the whole island, including the unsold ones at the dealerships
#2 Not a lot of aftermarket rims fit to clear the width of the brembos.

Was dad taking his son's car out for a joyride?

Ok, I know exactly where that is now... Stupid for going 140km/h around that bend!

Was dad taking his son's car out for a joyride?

Might be his! I remember hanging out at Clover Point and I see this middle aged guy in a Cobalt blasting his stereo going in circles for 10 mins! Then he parks beside my car for a bit. After that, he leaves. Wonder if it's the same guy. Must feel young inside still...

That pole has bad luck, a big rig took it out in the summer.

A couple of my friends have had runs with him on the street before. They said he was a goof. He's almost 40 and he's racing kids from stop-lights.

This was my friends, not me BTW.

Sad example of our cars, and some shitty driving. Seen it around for a while, its an SS S/C.
I thought Chris ($$$$$$$$) did some work on a red one, Stage 2 and other stuff.

Lol at the news article, I read it thinking it was a Porsche or something. "The headlights from his sports car were found more than 200 metres ..."

i just finished fixing that thing.....just goes to show that the repairs outlast the vehicles.

I found one of the headlights completly intact with barely a scratch on it by the first entrance into the BP/Save On parking lot.
Almost ran the thing over pulling away from loading the car.

And I guess James has already confirmed that it was an SS, but I was gonna say that it looked like it had a sc (hard to tell in the mashed up engine bay) and had SS badging.

Too bad the motor is probably hosed, I could find a home for one of those.

I don't think this is the same one. The owner of the red one with stage 2 was in his early 30's, and I don't remember those wheels.

meh, he couldn't have hit it that hard. I doubt he was going more than 50kph when he hit the pole. 10 seconds earlier he could have been going a lot more than that though. I love how they dwell on the fact the headlights rolled down the road. Big deal! Give me something round and let's see how far we can make it roll.....stupid journalists.

How are these round?

And it's not like they're unsecured... they're actually held into the front bumper.

rob76
01-11-2009, 01:22 PM
relatively round, they're not flat anyway.
If you watch any crash test at 35mph you see similar damage to this type of car. Also, the driver wasn't even hurt. If he was going 100kph for example that car would be a lot worse off.

This is right across from Timmies. What you see in the picture is the Town & Country shopping mall sign. That's side of Wal Mart where their oil change used to be.
