recently i noticed an annoying problem regarding MSN/Windows Live Messenger 2009 version. the problem is, the program is frozen after i leave it ideling for long periods of time eg: overnight. it's annoying as hell as every time when i wake up and use my comp, i see messages i received from people, but i cannot view it as MSN/WLM is frozen. and when i do get the program restarted, the messages werent loged. so anyone else experiencing similar problems or know a way of a fix?

Do you have a firewall? If so make sure port 1900 is open.

If your on xp then try this...

Go start menu>run>type regedt32 and press enter

Locate and click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DirectPlayNA THelp\DPNHUPnP

With that key still highligted click on the edit menu>add Value>then input the following registry value:

Value name: UPnPMode
Data type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 2

Quit the editor, and hopefully you should be good.

no i'm not on xp, i'm on vista 64, and how does a firewall cause the program to freeze/hang over long periods of time? i can use MSN/WLM fine when i'm on the computer, it's just after a prolong period ideling the program freezes/hangs.

I had this problem as well.

Reverted back to the actual current release of Messenger and it's happened once or twice only. I completely removed any Windows Live Beta applications before putting on the current release.

I'm running Vista Business 32bit.

Further digging on Google shows that there maybe a high CPU utilization of the EXE just prior to the crash/freeze.

Lol, off topic bump, and I dont want to make a new thread.

Is there a possibility to downgrade back to the old one? For me, when ever I want to talk to someone, it takes like 30 seconds to open a chat box.

I'm telling you, your comp has a problem. I've ran the official and beta versions for 3months+ and I"ve never had that problem
