Hey guys,

Does anyone know where I can get cheap HDMI cables in town?

I just bought myself a 52" Aquos and Blueray player from Future Shop but I just can't bring myself to waste $70 on their cables.

I need HDMI to HDMI for the blueray player, and a DVI to HDMI cable for my Mediacenter PC.

Go to Madman Mackay's home theatre on the Island highway (Just past six mile). They will sell you a generic, non fancy, whatever length you want HDMI cable for ultra cheap. The do sell the expensive ones, but for home installations they use the cheaper cables to run through walls and whatnot where nobody will see them.

As for pricing, we got a 25ft HDMI cable for something like $160.

Excess Cargo had them for like $30 for 4 feet I think it was. Walmart also has them. I bought a kit for $35 that came with 12ft of HDMI cable, some screen cleaner & cloth, and a power bar.

Costco has a kick ass Home Entertainment pack for like 80 bucks. Has two 6 ft HDMI cables, component cables, and even optical cables for audio. I think it had some standard ones in there as well.

Thanks guys.

I ended up getting the cables from Queale, the cables were $23 each in 10 foot lengths. They even had braided sheathes to boot!

I had no idea how much Future Shop was ripping people off on cables before, a 4' Rocketfish HDMI-DVI was $71

I got a couple of six footers from XS Cargo for $16 each. Hard to beat if you want local pickup

anyone who works/has worked at FS or a similar store will tell you that that's where they make their money...apparently on something like a Blu Ray player they only make a few percent profit...on Monster cables, Rocketfish, etc...it's somewhere in the 90%+ range...pretty disgusting :p

Not local... But I usually buy stuff from NCIX in Richmond (www.ncix.com) and use www.shopbot.ca to pricematch. Usually get stuff in the next day... But I got a couple generic 6FT for $10 each, and 15FT for like $15 before.

Also Rogers Video has 6FT ones for $9.99. Not sure if they still do...

T'is true. I love how people get sucked into advertising. Its digital... it either works or it doesn't.
Analog is a different story... you can hear/see the signal loss or interference.

The high markup on accessories doesn't just happen at FS... it happens at most (if not all) retail stores. No one complains too much if something that cost $1 wholesale is marked up to say $5... its only 5 bucks, right? However, mark up something that cost $1000 wholesale to $5000 retail and customers would lose it.

Maybe he talked to Mohammad. Sometimes he can give you some crazy deals... Sometimes it seems like he's giving you a crazy deal. But either way, it's always less than the listed price... That's all I care.

What TV is that? Our Christmas present to ourselves was a 42" Aquos and Harmony 670 remote... which somehow managed to filter out the artifacts from running a 30' s-video cable over a couple 120volt lines in the attic. A huge improvement over the old 26" no name LCD.

That damn Santa still hasn't bought us the Shaw HD PVR yet though and they were stupid cheap on Boxing week.

+1 for Mohammad!

Bought my TV from him last year. Like others have said, Monoprice is great.

For myself, I purchased a couple 3 ft HDMI's and some other things. Also a DVI -> HDMI 25 ft.

I would have told them to toss the cable in for free. Last time i bought the shaw HDPVR the guy i dealt with tossed in the 10' or 12' HDMI cable for $10 after taking 100 or 150 off the price of the PVR unit. This was at either future shop or best buy... i can't remember
