Been using www.internetdownloadmanager.com for years now, and I love it. It is always updated, and doesn't interfere too much at all. It's commercial only (no spyware) but totally worth it.

This is the only way to get the most out of your bandwidth. Using it, I am able to use my full 6.5 mbps from Hong Kong to pretty much any site in the world.

used to have flashget, but now i'm just like Grandmaster TSE...

no reason to use it when your internet speed can get up to 1mb per second.

If it's large file, i'll use BT instead

You won't get your full internet speed without an accelerator, unless you're downloading from the same hub or something.

well i gave that software a try. I'm on shaw extreme. Max speed i seen is 2MB. Average is around 1.3MB-1.7MB. I guess it depends on how many connection the host you are downloading from allow you to connect to. But all in all very useful app. Thanks skinny

Correct,

Download accelerators create multiple connections to the server or multiple servers to download at top speed.

i dont really do much direct downloads anymore, and i hardly direct download multiple files at the same time. either way, the download is finished in a minute or 2.

for mass download, i'll just use BT and leave it on. with multiple downloads and the right ports opened, its not hard to use up the whole bandwidth using BT anyways.

^pretty much..

i RARELY find the need to do HTTP downloads that exceed 50-100MB, so whats the point of a dl manager?
most larger files that you download through HTTP re-direct you to proprietary download managers anyway (itunes, msn, etc...)

yeah ive tried downthemall, was just wondering if there was anything better. i'll give internet download manager a try. i found some files i needed that i couldn't find a torrent version of, hence the directdownloading lol

You don't download podcasts, or youtube videos, or anything like that?

Anyway what's the point? The point is, you can be downloading at 900KB/s instead of 100KB/s.

I just installed downloadthem all for firefox. I downloaded a file with the program and one without, using just the default firefox downloader. The firefox downloader had a faster per second rate than downloadthemall .
