Whats the procedure on properly cleaning your camera sensor? I know my 40D sensor is pretty yuckie, and i don't want my 5D sensor to get that overly dirty. Is this something you do yourself? Or do you bring it in somewhere? I've looked at video's on youtube and all, but would like to get some solid information on this.

Senna wana chime in? I trust your advice. :)

I use Artic Butterfly (look in up on Google). Gentle on the sensor (no pressure), no cleaning agents to use--just uses static to pick up dust. About $80 when I picked it up online a couple years ago, I believe London Drugs sells it now..?

Won't work if you somehow got something sticky on the sensor, though.

I got one of those Arctic brushes too. They work really well. Worth the money for sure.

I personally do not trust the brush type (Lens Pen & Arctic Butterfly) devices. The possibility of dirt, dust and grime caught in the bristles from previous cleanings scratching the AA filter however small is still there. Yes, you're supposed give the brush a blast with compressed air, but microscopic particles may still be caught in the bristles. This may not be an issue with the amateur, but a pro who may be constantly changing lenses will not want to take the chance.

My recommendation is the Visible Dust Orange or Green series or Photo Solutions Sensor Swab line of one time use swabs.

To bump an old thread,

I have been reading online that you should blow, then brush off any loose particles prior to doing a wet clean. Is this truly necessary? Like what Senna has said, it could drag the the particle and scratch the AA filter.
