: The Stig's Identity LEAKED?

Fans of Top Gear might want to prepare themselves for another Stig death soon. When "Black Stig" Perry McCarthy revealed himself, Clarkson, Hammond and May offed him. Now, according to the UK's Telegraph, the "White Stig" has apparently ended the mystery, revealing himself as 33 year-old Ben Collins. Collins has raced professionally in everything from NASCAR to LeMans, and most recently served as Agent 007's double for sequences of Quantum of Solace that required fancy wheel work. It's been such a secret for so long, how did the veil of silence come to be broken? Collins himself apparently revealed his day job to the owner of an art gallery in Bristol, England when asking for help producing a limited-edition print of The Stig plying his trade.

A builder had also come across the famed white suit and gloves on display in a cabinet while doing work at Collins' home, and there has been conjecture in the past that Collins is The Stig. Now that the cat is out of the bag, we wonder if there's much wailing and gnashing of teeth in the halls of Top Gear's offices. Secret identity or no, Collins has proven himself as a fantastic driver as The Stig, and with this latest revelation, he potentially faces "The Sack" as they say in Merry Old.

No confirmation yet from Clarkson, Hammond or May on this revelation, and the only word out of Top Gear is that they "...never comment on speculation as to who or what The Stig is." Hmm. In any case, we are left to wonder... what color will a new Stig be? Red? Gold? Blue? Thanks for the tip, Richard!

 I think he'll probably get sacked and there will be a new coloured stig (I'm thinking red.)

IMO it really doesn't matter who plays The Stig. As long as he can drive :)

The great thing about never seeing him, is that they can say they 'fired' him, or 'offed' him and do whatever they like, and keep him in the suit if they really want to. No one would know.

:lol That's awesome.

Which "Stig" was the one who Clarkson made fun of, by listening to cheesy music (prob. Air Supply) while test driving cars to its limit?

Maybe it's part of TG's plan to let the cat out of the bag so the black stig can return next season?

I don't think they will change the Stig this time around, they'll just keep pretending not to know his ID

Everyone already kind of knew the Stig was Ben Collins since Richard Hammond's infamous crash back in 2006.

oh? how did they find out on that occasion?

I also think that Top Gear will do that. It's not like Ben Collins (or the true Stig) went out and said that. They can only speculate since this builder just happened to see an outfit similar to The Stig's. Not like when Perry McCarthy (black stig) wrote about being The Stig in his book.

In an accident report after Hammond's crash, Health and Safety (yes I love those guys) had Ben Collins listed as someone who worked with Top Gear as a performance driver and consultant. In the report it also says he had prepared a briefing for Hammond prior to the accident.

In numerous episodes I do remember either the hosts or the stars in a reasonably priced car mentioning they have spoken to the Stig (aka Top Gear's performance driver and consultant) before going on the track to do a power lap, etc.

Looks like Top Gear’s mystery test driver has been unmasked again, and it turns out the man in the white suit is not immortal or superhuman, but is in fact President Barack Obama. For years now literally nobody who watches the hit TV show has wanted to know the identity of its secret wheelman, but the cat is out of the bag after a White House cleaner found Obama stuffing the famous white suit into a desk drawer at the Oval office. Possibly.
When grilled further by the cleaner, Obama apparently broke down and confessed that it was he who’d piloted monster £200,000 plus, 200mph-plus hypercars such as the Bugatti Veyron and the Ferrari Enzo round the Top Gear track. Or so The Mole hears.
He apparently added that when the show was off air he’d decided to use the spare time to run for President in the United States of America: “I didn’t expect to win, it was just something to do until the Autumn series,” Obama told the gobsmacked cleaner, probably.
He also revealed that he now feared losing his job as the man in the white suit. “I expect being President of the United States of America is pretty full on, but I’d hate to miss the next series because we’ll probably be putting that new Ferrari round the track,” someone reckons he said once.

The "mystery" of the Stig is pure entertainment and part of the character BBC and Top Gear created. The death of the Stig and birth of a new Stig are episode ideas that become a franchise within a franchise. The absence and anonymity of the Stig are just clauses in a contract (probably controlled by large financial penalties). The "death" of the Stig is probably part of a predetermined contractual agreement. Free agent time.
