Looking for a good men's barber/stylist in DT or Vancity. Need a place to be able to give a good, fashion forward but still appropriate for work haircut.
So please list the barber, location, what you paid and your rating of the barber.
Much appreciated.

yes they do cut mens hair, but its quite expensive
You guys make it sound like it's hard to find a good haircut for less than $20 or something. Does that even include a wash?
I consider myself pretty picky for haircuts, but I don't have to pay more than $10 for a haircut to the lady who cuts mine. Maybe it's my style. I don't have honger/anime character hair.
A&T on Victoria, across the street from Nancy Wonton house.

it is hard to find a haircut for less than $20 if you're looking for a longer haircut. anyone can cut a borderline decent short haircut.

disagree about the short hair. Depending on the persons hair it can be difficult not to get lines when cutting the sides.
The way my hair grows a lot of people still leave lines. Doesnt matter if i pay 10$ or 50$ Still happens.

S3an you can find lots of places man jus any regular hair cut salon usualy charges no more then 20 bucks a hair cut and do a good job, if ur paying more than that ur jus paying for the name of a popular place that does the same job as any other place like hennessy they charge so much and theres no differecne than another salon, this is a hair cut im talkin about ... if your gonna go do high lights or somthing then of course go to a place like hennessy or somewhere well known becus color is a different story than a hair cut

From personal experience i ussualy get the 20-30dollar hair cuts. A big problem i find about the $15under places are that A) they can cut evenly, i always find spots that are fucked up on my head and B) they arent consistant.. sometimes they do a ok job sometimes it all gimped.

Yeah where can i get like a crew cut/buzz for like 20$ because i dont believe 40$ to use a razor all around my head is reasonable? Some salons will do it and charge me a buzz price ($20) but others charge me the 30-40 for like 10minutes of shaving. Amazingly, when I go to salons and I tell them, cut the muh fucka short numba one on the side, 2 on the top, and 1.5 side, THEY ALWAYS FUCK MY HAIR UP. I mean like heinous dents and shit, then my gf goes....what happened to your head? you payed 30-40$ for that? Not that I am knocking salons, whenever i get a med length haircut they do a superb job, but in my experience so far they cant cut short for shit, just wondering if anyone reccomends somewhere. Athens @ metro did a pretty decent job, but I only trust the asn lady there :haha:

It depends on what style of hair you're looking for.
I used to go to Mentor in Kerrisdale (next to White Spot) as it is a salon directly from Taiwan.
I go to Chura now on Howe (near Pacific Center) for Japanese style cuts. All the stylists there are from Japan and they do a great job!
Edit: forgot prices. Both places come up to about $31-35 after you include tips.

Recently got my hair cut at Loft 315, after being recommended by alot of my friends cuz they all go there. Its located at #315-1529 w 6th ave, right off Granville street.
Service and skill is very good, people are very friendly, shop is clean. I didnt really know what I wanted so I just told her to cut whatever she thinks looks good with my facial features and she did, and it was pretty good. Definitely would go back next time! If you are looking for a more stylish, hip, trendy cut go to Tammy if looking for a more clean cut, professional look then go to Anita, the other stylist there with over 15years of experience.
Cost about a little less than $40 tips incld, its about same range as the jap/honger places but they can actually understand what you're saying and will listen to what you want and recommend what looks best, instead of you just pointing at a picture and trying to cut it . Give them a try, look for Tammy 604 781 7182

ok for the people wondering the differance in a cheap cut and a more exspensive cut ...
10-25 bucks no wash no style and use the clippers and generally getting someone that is right out of school or someone that works from home with no experiance
getting up in the 30-50 range you get a higher end salon good drinks mags and service.. awsome scalp massage scissor over comb rather then clippers.. in most cases .. and if your paying 40-50 bucks and somone wants to use a clipper walk out lol not worth your money . scissor over comb is much more persice and will do a better job of shaping the cut to your dome ...
plus you get to say you get your hair done at (whatever shop it is) kinda like shopping at winners and shopping on robson ...
i know 1 guy said something about the crue cut that going to the high end salon he always got a bad job done ... well because thats not what we do in a highend salon best off going to your local ghetto barber for something like that because that is what they do ALL day long
for the guy that said he had been growing his hair out for a month so far .. wait 1 more month then go in for a cut and just ask for the sides to get textured.. but dont let them use the texturizing shears .. if they want to then leave lol

I think that it is also important to take into consideration if the person who got the haircut is able to style it afterwards on his own to keep it looking good. A haircut may look great on the first day but if the guy doesn't know how to style with wax / gel / clay / etc. then it is a waste :(
IMO a haircut is only worth over $50 if you can keep for longer than 6 weeks. I cut my ear anywhere from between 2 - 3 weeks, so it would be really deep for me to throw 50 bucks everytime i get my haircut

Bumping this thread, because I just got the best hair cut I've ever had.
Its difficult to impress me with a hair cut, rarely am I even overly satisfied with the quality even when its done by a high end salon; from this point on however, I will be going exclusively to Kristine at Fusion in Abbotsford. My hair is very difficult to cut as I have multiple cowlicks, which Kristine recognized and paid a great deal of attention too, flowing the cut with my naturally stubborn hair to make it easy for me to style at home. Overall she spent over an hour, including the wash on my hair and only charged $30, not sure if thats a first visit rate or standard. I tipped her $10 and I still think it was a steal. Abbotsford might be a bit out of the way for some of you guys, but if you live in Langley/Surrey/Maple Ridge I would definitely recommend this salon, especially if you already make trip out here for cheap gas.

I can tell the difference between a $12 cut and a $30-50 one, especially if you like to wear you hair a bit long, but if your happy with it then great you save a few bucks.
Also, I love it when the stylist washes my hair, the scalp massage feels awesome and you don't get that with cheap cuts.

I always go to Zeal in Richmond. Downtown on Robson is good too, but I prefer free parking in Richmond.
My haircut ends up being $40 after tax, and I usually tip 10%. Good scalp massage & shampoo, hot towel, sometimes massage chair on while getting hair washed. (have yet to ask why it's only sometimes) I haven't had a bad haircut there yet. Call in before you go, they get busy.
I haven't really been loyal to any stylists because I call in last minute. :(

Also true. Depends on your hair style. My hair is rarely over 2 inches long so it's really not much of a difference to me.
Don't know if I could justify 2-4 haircuts for the price of 1+scalp massage.. maybe I'll try it next time :fullofwin:

Most stylists at the salons I've been take the extra time to trim the areas that show length the fastest, like above the ears, a bit shorter than the rest of the cut so you can maximize the amount of time in between cuts. It doesn't make a huge difference, but the cut definitely looks better for longer when you compare it to a clipper cut from great clips.
^ I wouldn't doubt it. But my haircuts rarely take longer than 5 minutes. Buzz buzz, snip snip, done. lol

don't go to 3G nice underneath Ninkazu Japanse resturant in the mall between aberdeen and parker because its just crap and not worth your time. A buddy had to wait an hour sitting there after getting his hair washed. He couldn't leave cause they already washed it so he just waited for an hour for the hair stylist. I heard they do this with all their customers to prevent ppl from leaving when it gets busy. That place is also full of highschoolers acting all hardcore smoking in front of the place staring you down when you walk in. Highly not recommended.

Oh dear, I had THE worst experience ever at Tsubaki. My mom could cut hair better (and she used to cut it all uneven). I wouldn't even recommend this place to my worst enemy!

From my experience,
Jacks : Good but it is pretty damn pricey for what you get and the skill of their stylist.. they charge abotu 42 now
Air: Been there twice... I actually got a better hair cut from the stylist than their master stylist.. the master stylist spent about 15 mins.. worked really fast, maybe because she's super efficient? I dunno but the cut was OK. Prices are not that bad there (metro)
I think with all stylist.. they have the education and experience, but unless you tell them specifically what you want, you won't be happy, unless you have an open mind. From now on, I am going to go in with a pic.
I plan to check out Tim as mentioned, and also Ark.
To those who are knocking on us who spend 30+ on our hair, I bet you still use dippity doo gel, and probably :forever alone

You should try "hair community" in Empire centre. Same price as 3G but less fail. 3G is for highschoolers who wana act cool with the same hair cut as their gangster wannabe frends at school.

I could say the same about you and getting 10 dollar haircuts for something you can do yourself. People here aren't paying 30+ for your 1990s crewcut.
You're the "Higher State" of Hair Cuts.

Need a good place to get a haircut around Burnaby area..
With work and all, I can't seem to find time to visit my usual place for a haircut.
I know there's a lot of recommendations before this post, but it's almost been a year since the last post and maybe things have change?
TIA =]
