: Con's of having a hole in your muffler?

Ok so my muffler has a hole in it for probably a year now, loud as hell, i feel like i'm driving a ricer sometimes lol. I've gotten air care done on it today and I passed w/out problems, no dilution that the machines noticed.

What i Want to know is.. do i really need to get it fixed/change it?

I know the cons are that my car will be loud as hell and rust hole can get bigger, and the exhaust will probably fall off... but... is that it?

Could potentially affect mileage, but the main con is that it may make it difficult for Aircare to test your car.

The "sniffer" requires a certain volume of exhaust flow to operate, and it there is another hole in your exhaust system, oftentimes the aircare idle test will result in a "sample dilution". You could always tape the hole closed just before you go to aircare I guess.... but basically it can make things a pain.

If you can live with the noise, you don't need to fix it.

If the noise really bothers you, you could try getting some metal epoxy and patching the hole with it depending how big the hole is.

The police can pull you over and give you a VI notice.... then you'll have to get it fixed and anything else that's 'deficient' on your car.

If it's a 95 civic, most likely you can find a used stock muffler for like $20 in the forum. Just ask around man.
