York University Strike

Anyone following this ?

I'd hate to be in paying to go to school and having a strike cost me my class time and summer or worse.

Day 76 and counting. Do you guys think the government of Ontario should step in and end the strike or let it go on indefinitely. Imagine if it went on for 5 months and a whole 2 terms were lost. that'd really blow for the students.

The settlement will set a precedent for a starting point for other negotiations at other schools across the country. That's why you got two sides that don't want to budge much. U of T might be next.

My friend goes to York, it's the TA's that are striking.. not the profs... but i think they all belong to the same union or something or another, hence none of them are working... they've been on strike since almost 2 months ago..

It's the Teaching Assistants as well as Sessional Instructors and graduate assistants.

No they did not finish their last semester as the strike began in November.

The latest offer by the University, which somehow they forced a vote to happen, was rejected.

fuck them, losers did a similar thing at UBC in my 3rd year, fucking cost me some serious grades (they blocked hte parkades, so i couldn't park my car in the parking spot i paid for, who the fuck does that)

anyways, i hope they all lose their houses/accomodation/grad funding, whatever it is that they're working for - they work at a university, a place of higher education i.e. they can earn more money than the average joe - if they weren't so lazy and communist - FUCK THEM!
