Taking class 5 road test with expired license

Is it possible? My license expires in a week or so, and there is no available date to take a roadtest before the expiry date. Do I have to renew it before I can take my class 5? It expired back in 2003 and that is already more than 3 years ago.
Do I have to retake my N road test before I can take my class 5? That's like $200 freakin dollars!
If you didn't want to put up that kind of money, you could've gotten your class 5 sooner.
But yes, from what I remember, you do need to have an active license before you can upgrade to the next.

I don't quite follow the whole expiry date thing you're talking about (expires in a week or two, but expired in 2003?) Can you not simply renew your current licence the way everyone else does it?

The Class 5 road test fee is $50.
If you pass, you will also need to pay for your licence. The fee is $17 if your licence will expire in more than six months or $75 if your licence will expire in six months or less.
if you could take the test before it expires you'd pay $50 + $75 = 125.
after it expires, you need to renew it and then take the test, so: $75 + $50 + $17 = $142.
keep checking the road test booking site several times a day, sometimes slots become available.
EDIT: and no, you don't have to take the N road test again i don't think. unless it has been expired for a REALLY long time..

my suggestion exactly; or take a roadtest out of town, in my case, i went to port alberni when i was in nanaimo- they had a slot open and i went the next day...

You will have to take the road test to renew your class 7 anyway....anyone with a dl that has expired 3 years or more cannot just pay and be renewed.

A related suggestion: check the ICBC site EVERYDAY. People cancel their test appointments all the time so you actually may be able to get a test in the next day if you are lucky.

i think we need to sort something out first....
is your license expiring in the next week or so?
or did it expire 6 years ago....

My mistake, my license was issued on 2003, and it's expiring at the beginning of february.
So after it expires, I have to take my class 7 and then my class 5? That seems pointless...

no i think for less than 6 months expiry you don't but thats a good question to ask ICBC.

You always need an appointment for a road test. You can book them on line at ICBC's web site:

You could just show up and hope for a no show. Though that is just a risk and a gamble because there is no telling how long the wait will be. Could be 15mins and it could be the entire day.

That is correct! Your GLP will have to be restarted and any further infractions will result in another suspension.
