errr... Not even.

I'm friends with people that are really good in the badminton field, and I can say for a fact, they regard Eric Yen, the one who was partners with David L. for the tournament you posted, was one of the best in BC... David L played with him for the tournament and won was because no one else was playing... Otherwise, David L. alone would not make it.

im okay...

i go to anywhere my friends go for sat night drop ins

inexpenisve sport/hobbie i'd say. i see it as a recreational hobbie more than a sport. something about badminton that i find...... not as appealing as other sports.

I play badminton, although not in years. I would actually like to play again. Where can I go for some drop in play at, lets say, a low-medium intermediate level?

Also, is there any drop in on weekends during the day, so that I can still go out at night :) ?

Is there anything in the Surrey area? How much do these places usually charge?

I have a net setup in my backyard during summer, but it's just not the same as playing against some good competition in a gym.

I just started playing and am still pretty new at it.. which courts do you play at and why? I play at Clear 1 and i find some of the courts have pretty crappy lighting..

I still play once in a while at a surrey rec center.

Some gyms are absolutely horrid, especially if youre given a high shot, look up and get totally blinded. Missed a hell of a lot of easy kills because of that...

at C1 there are certain places where the birdie is at.. and it'd be like a blind spot.. look up and go 'where the hell is it??' then the birdie falls on the floor..

does the rec centre have the indoor court mats or is it on like a gymnasium type waxed floor?

Isnt badminton just tennis for weaklings who cant handle the weight of tennis balls?

Peanut Butter Jelly Time!
05-09-2010, 08:01 AM
that is a really general statement..which I don't agree with. badminton requires you to have strength in different areas of your body incomparison to tennis.

feel free to come out and play to determine for yourself though, whether your statement is true.

Offensive rackets usually are head heavy and defensive is head light. Not to say you can't play offensively with 70gram racket, and certainly you won't be the hardest hitter with a 90gram steel racket. it boils down to preference and what suits you best. I have a lot of racket over the years and it takes trial and error to find the one that fits you best. I would be more concerned with the strings rather than the racket. more questions please pm

Yeah, I just picked it up in september and I play about once a week.
So I'm pretty sucky.

It get trounced by my friends all the time, but it's a good cardio workout.
Try doing 3 doubles straight, then a 1v1. Never dripped sweat so hard in my life.

This is not true at all as I play both sports and out of the two, Tennis is my stronger sport.

For Tennis, you need consistent strength, constant muscle movement, and is generally slower overall as the breaks in between points are a lot longer than those in badminton.

In Badminton, you need explosive strength and short bursts of energy. The points are a lot quicker and there are generally more hits in a rally than those in badminton. Breaks in between points are also a lot shorter.

Out of the two, I would say Badminton is actually more taxing on the body.

where do you guys play?
I usually go to c1 and UBC Rec.
The rec is an awsome deal compared to the C1. Free for students and only 5.50 for no students. This lasts you the entire day!!!

I usally use my Arcsaber 7. but just bought the Arcsaber 10 on Saturday...

ACE badminton centre, on Van Horne Way right behind Costco Richmond, had new floors installed recently for their courts.

$5 fee for drop-in from 12 to 3pm on Saturdays.

Those new mats are so rough. And somehow the roof is dripping water making the mats super slippery. Plastic birds always get stuck to the new B&K netting.

Anyone know where I can get a good deal for ArcZ? Sportschek has them for $270. With family and friends it turns out to be $225 taxes in. Still, $200 for a racquet is a little too rich for my blood.

Any local, new z-slash would run you 225+. I remember it being the same price at Tad's as an Arc 10, I went for the 10. I could live without all that offensive power, and the risk of breaking it from a hit to the rim haha.
